As a big fan of the YS series, I'm very excited to play this game. It's one of those series where you're constantly having fun thanks to its fast paced and satisfying gameplay. For fans of this series as well, would you say this game holds up?

I put P5 on the back burner because I couldn't stop playing till I beat it! Great story, good pacing, difficulty is just right, and the controls are so responsive and just overall feels good!

The game is great, it took me some time but I'm trekking through what I think is the last dungeon right now. It's been a very fun journey. I haven't played through Origins and Memories of Celceta yet, but this one is my favorite as of now.

This is the most fun I had with an Ys game. I felt like all characters had a fleshed out personality and felt real.

@SupraDarky Man this game let me down ultra mega hard. So here is this series with amazing games that comes back after several years with a new game. I was so hyped, and even though they did a terrible job porting the game over with subtitle mistakes and shitty performance out the box, I had a great time playing it. This was the first time I would get to play a Ys game close to its release, as I found this series a year or two ago, long after the other games came out. The music is great, the gameplay is great, the characters are decent, with only a few problems. It rly annoyed me just how low the nun lady tore her dress, that's just completely unrealistic. and it also annoyed me just how much the devs wanted to make whats-her-face the main love interest, especially with that cliche nude bathing scene at the start. I personally thought that the smith was best girl, and was annoyed how little romantic choices there were for me to make (at all, even with whats-her-face). The environments were awesome to run around in, and when you finally explored all of the island, there was a lot to look back at. I would recommend buying this game just to see the island, as they put a lot of detail into it. But alas, there is a problem: the story. The story is great until you get to the end, although the tiff with nameless was a bit stupid. Really unrealistic, nobody could be that demented and appear so normal, but whatever. And talk about a needless character death. When you start out, there are so many unknowns that I can't even begin to name them all, and over the course of the game, they get revealed to you in a fairly suspenseful manner. Some things you see from a mile away, but most you don't have a clue about. I can't really get into it without major spoilers, but basically, the story is fine until the end. Things get funky, and the true ending is complete bullshit. A completely random deity shows up and does something to one of the main characters that pisses me off to no end. The god is all "Hey, I know everybody you know and love is dead because of this thing, but let me make you an integral part of it. Now you get to stay alive forever and are responsible for using it wisely." And the main char says "That sounds like a great idea, I bet we can use this thing that murders everyone to benefit people!" (Also, how the heck doesn't this character have an existential crisis? They survived all that time after such a terrible fate and finally got justice for their civilization, and have no mental breakdown?) Like what the fuck! Am I the only one wondering where the winged demigod things went? Where the fuck did this outrageously busty deity come from!??! And she takes credit for the tree?? The fuck, that tree comes from the Origins game, and it had no freaky alien inside of it!

@Daniel Cardoso But... but that ending ... am I the only one who sees a problem with Dana becoming one of the persons to "dish out" the Lacrimosa?? It killed her people and she committed suicide (or the closest thing) to not join the other guardians. Then she meets Adol, gets new friends, finishes what she set out to do long ago in the blizzard (try and get help from outside the kingdom) and sacrifices herself to stop the Lacrimosa for good. She should either have not been resurrected and finally known some peace, or not have died and just try to move on with life. Maybe travel and find a new purpose, as she got justice for her people and has no more ties to the island. Also, where in the actual fuck did Gaia come from??? The Menoa trees are from the Origins game and have a conscious of their own (we see that in the other games as well). Where the heck did that weird alien thing come from??? I cannot believe it is what we have been talking to ever since Ys I and II, there is no way.

SupraDarky one of the best jrpgs on ps4 and switch. Seriously check cullen's review on it. It's one of falcom's best achievements.

The true end was pretty bad IMO. But in general, Ys VIII was amazing. Though I think the timing for perfect guards was little too generous.

This song’s aight but Sunshine Coastline is incredible. Perfectly encapsulates the feeling of adventure the game is going for.

Finished this one last week. A truly excellent experience, both gameplay wise and story wise. Falcom just knows how to make stories simple, some might say simplistic, but engaging and keeping you on your toes. Add to that a always sublime soundtrack, and you got a Ys game. This might be my favorite episode from the one I've played. Celceta is next !

But why those games? I bought them on steam too and I'm having a hard time making myself play them. Got to lv 10 on the first and am stuck at the boss who turns into bats. It's completely ridiculous - you have a split second to hit him, then he becomes invincible and starts damaging you with his swarm of bats. Really not fun.

I played those games on PSTV. Yeah the bats boss sucks and admittedly the final boss was pretty bad too, but I enjoyed the rest of it.

I didn't find the bat boss very difficult. The last boss, though, was a major pain in the ass. Legit spent more than an hour playing non-stop on that single boss (~2min each try?), and when I finally beat him, I couldn't shake the feeling that it was mainly luck. Fuck Dark Fact. Btw, are you using all the silver equipment?

Yep. I honestly am tempted to not finish the game. I rly dont want to start over on easy mode, as that would take time I could spend having fun on other games. How this boss passed the project leads I have no clue. You have under a second to hit the guy by running into him, and he deals almost as much dmg as you do when you are lv 10. Just such a turnoff.

The way I remember, there was a timing to hit him that once you figure out, it wasn't too difficult. Like leading the bats to the edges of the room, and ramming into the boss when you see the red swirl, before he completes his wing flap. It's all about getting that timing, I suppose... It's been a long, long while since I last played I & II, so I'm not sure. What really stuck in my mind was the last boss.
