A look at Dracula's Castle then the camera spinning around a mysterious kid playing violin. Such a simple, yet memorable intro that didn't make you want to press Start. One of my favorite games on the N64.

I take every opportunity to stick up for this game. Its one excellent Castlevania game. Sure the camera could be a bear, but at that time I was freaking glued to my seat! The cut scene of the vampire girl watering flowers with blood, the lightning strikes at beginning that made me jump, the angel statue crying blood, jumping into a casket only to land in a underground cave, epic boss fights, and on and on. So many rememberable moments! People like to bash it now, but back then it got solid reviews across the board. I have both N64 Castlevania games and they are definitely some differences between them that make it worth while to play both and see all the changes. Reinhardt in Carrie first outing is best on original release, while Legacy of Darkness is great for all the new content. Thank you for sharing!

Sadly, this great franchise is dead in terms of Video Games Netflix's adaptation is hella wonderful though.

this was my most favorite Nintendo game ever made (the entire Castlevania saga) but to this day the violin solo of this intro still pulls on my heart-strings a little, beautiful.

I even bought the soundtrack CD back in the days. Wonderful game with a beautiful soundtrack. And such a marvel to be on N64 of all machines!

No matter how bad the gameplay was (even though it was hardly the worst thing in the world), I will always remember this song and this menu screen. It's far too mysterious and enchanting for the game it's attached to.

I never understood the hate for this game. It got Castlevania down perfectly in 3D. Wish they kept this style. Curse of Darkness is awesome too.

Oh man, this game! I was too scared/bad at games to play through it as a kid, but I read the strategy guide front and back. There was one point in the book where it said "damn" and I had to cover that with a sticker before I could show my friends. Out of everything in that game, I remember the skeletons on motorcycles (right??) and this song the most.

This game was actually pretty damn great.. It had his flaws sure (the camera for instance) but it 100% didn't deserve all the hate it got. And that soundtrack 😍

I know this game was divisive in its time, between "love it" and "hate it" crowds. I was one of the "love it" people, as the things it did right, to me, overshadowed the issues it had.

Actually, at the time it was quite universally praised. The hate only came later, especially when the AVGN overdramatized a lot of issues.

While the game does have flaws, I still can’t help but appreciate the things it did well, like the truly haunting atmosphere that other games in the series seemed to stray from. I’d love to see it remade honestly.
