Oh Paper Mario, what have they done to you. Super Paper Mario was different, but the great sort of different. Great gameplay, levels, humor and surprisingly dark themes. I like how this theme was being built up from the Memories sections, and the Flipside + Count Bleck motifs are a nice touch.

I hate thinking about where the Paper Mario series has wound up. Sticker Star had interesting ideas but wasn't much of an RPG, and was a general disappointment. Later, Paper Mario was relegated to a supporting character in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. Color Splash was apparently fairly good (though I haven't played it yet), although again it doubled down on the more action-adventure style, with very little in the way of RPG elements. Apparently the excuse that's been given for recent Paper Mario games not being RPGs (by Nintendo employees no less) is "we already have the Mario & Luigi series, we don't need another Mario RPG", and I think it's a weak excuse. They were always very different sorts of RPGs. I loved Super Paper Mario, although it was the first step away from being an RPG series, but I really miss the days of the first two games. The Thousand Year Door was the best Paper Mario game IMO, and while I don't expect another game in that style, I'd sure love one. At the very least I hope they put out a remaster of it for the Switch.

Super Paper Mario is my favorite game in the series. The music was great, the game play was fun and the story was deeper than your typical Mario game. Also, the game had lots of humor and a memorable rogue's gallery with Bleck and Dimentio. Unfortunately, this game wasn't well received because of how different it was to it's predecessors, which I think is such a shame.

I've always liked how Nintendo experiments with their series. Take for example Mario RPG, Paper Mario tTYD or Super Paper Mario. Weirdly enough, Sticker Star and Colour Splash doesn't feel as experimental as earlier entries in the series. In fact, they don't feel experimental at all. The both play around a gimmick (Stickers in SS and colour splashes in CS) and the story is very shallow in both of them. Not at all at the level of tTYD or SPM. I do feel like I should give a lot of credit to the graphics in these games. A game has never looked so paperly before. The dialogues in CS are great too, it's just a shame that there are no unique characters (like in tTYD) backing those up. There are cases when Nintendo experiments a little too much, forgetting what made the series great in the process (Star Fox or Metroid are good examples of this). However, I cannot think of any other series than Paper Mario by Nintendo where they experiment too little, and thus going away from the charm of earlier entries. Overall I feel like Nintendo should listen more to their fans. They could start by localizing Mother 3.

I'm one of the 12 people on the planet that likes every paper mario game at least a little. I really liked Color Splash, but it was very unsuccessful because people were aware of sticker star, it was a late Wii U release, and on top of all that, it costed 60 bucks at launch. Honestly, I am deeply saddened by this. The game has fun writing, gameplay that isn't as dull as everyone makes it out to be, really good exploration, and a, though non-strategic, quirky battle system. Also the ost is godlike and I'm surprised at least half of it isn't on this list yet like wow it's great, and people that don't even like this game agree with me on that. It probably won't get ported to the Switch, so if you have a Wii U, try it out at least. It's on equal terms with 64. I think people compare it to the other games too much, but the lack of RPG elements isn't everything. From an objective standpoint, *this game has more engaging exploration than TTYD,* but I digress. *In conclusion, this game isn't exactly the next SPM or TTYD, but it's an enjoyable experience nonetheless.*

This game... Man, this game. This game taught me something, y'know? It continued to teach me something I always look to learn something more of. It taught me more about love, and the many and various things about it. What people would do, sacrifices that are made for it, and the likes. Thousand YEAR Door will always be my favorite overall, but the story, tone and music of this game will always speak to me on a spiritual level. It's really something else. Thank you Supra for bringing back such good memories! :D

This game is damn good. The soundtrack's a big part of why it's so memorable, too.

I know I’m in the minority when I say this, but I did like Color Splash. I wouldn’t mind if they made another game like it, but I still want Nintendo to do at least SOMETHING with the other two Paper Mario formulas. Too many good ideas ended too soon.

I feel like out of all the Paper Mario games, this one would benefit the most from a remake/remaster. The music and story are fantastic, it’s just a little rough on the gameplay side. Give me proper analog control and the ability to equip more than one pixel at a time (like Zelda), and I’d happily shell out for another $50 on Switch.

I remember I played is game because of Chuggaaconroy’s play-through of it some time ago. I have fond memories of it, and it’s nice to hear the instruments from the game again here, especially that sort of string instrument that repeats the same tune in the quieter part of this song.
