I still have yet to play the BD games. I heard the first half is awesome while the second half is terrible, would that be a fair assessment? I tried the Project Octopath demo for the Switch and loved it, it's made by Acquire (remember Tenchu?) and the producer of this game and the presentation is top notch. Love the 2D/3D style they have going!
I wouldn't say terrible but it can be very repetitive if you chose it to be doing all the side quests and stuff it helps flesh out the world and the side characters and bosses. I got burnt out but it down for a few days and came back to all in all it was good in the end.
It varies from player to player. I personally liked it, but I can see why other people would say it's "terrible". It's not, it's a good game.
SupraDarky it's not as bad as it's made out to be, but it is deliberately super boring and obnoxious. can't blame people for ditching it at 'that' point. Second is fantastic all the way though. Fixed all of my issues with bd and added some of the most fun jobs ive seen in a game.
My thoughts on it are that from a purely mechanical, artistic, and music standpoint, the game is excellent. The problem is that the game likes to reiterate upon itself far too often than one should expect from a single playthrough, and this leads to you feeling like you're going around in circles. This is intentional, but it really isn't a good feeling to have when its unclear if you've actually made any progress in the time you've spent playing the game. If you're looking for a rpg that stands on its mechanical merit a lot more than its story, go right on ahead and enjoy how crazy you can make it. Otherwise, its really not worth your time.
I basically agree with the sentiment you summarized for BD, but I'd say that the IDEA of what they were going for in the second half could have been good in another media format or implemented some other way. It was an interesting way to flesh out the various side characters' personalities. But the way they implemented it was just so repetitive and bad especially for a completionist.
Eh, I'd say it's more so: 1st half - Awesome; 3rd fourth - the part people complain about (I'm personally fine with it but I see why some dislike it); final fourth - Awesome. Can't really go over why without getting into spoilers (as the mechanic people complain about directly ties to the story and enhances it in my opinion), but if you want a _vague_ idea (minor spoiler below): it is possible to never encounter that middle fourth of the game (think Chrono Trigger)
Awesome first half and terrible second half? Yeah that sounds about right, the second half of it left a bad taste in my mouth, not bad enough that I regret playing it, I'd say overall the game was still enjoyable, but still it makes it hard for me to always look back on the game fondly.
Second's music isn't near as good as Default's though
The second "half" is actually realls hort if you focus on the main quest, but the side quest flesh out the side characters better, Later on they also have some of the best fights in the game.
Oh boy this place got unsettling when you think hard about it.

Primrose's prologue reminded me of this place. Octopath itself however, feels a bit like Saga Frontier.

Octopath Traveler has some amazing tunes that deserve a listen.
Second part is lazy and repetitive. I stopped the game in the second loop but the first part is really good, remind of squaresoft best games and deserve a 9/10.

I started playing this and I'm getting my ass handed to me in the first dungeon. I know you can adjust encounters and difficulty on the fly. I'm just bad. :'(
It has the best job system ever created. Leaves you free to determine almost everything (No more grinding, no more random battlles!), the game has dozens of awesome boss fights. And you can skip the repetitive part, when you know you're in it (a Shame that always gets spoiled, it really is an awesome part of the game actually) With skipping that I still put in about 130 hours. That's about what I put in the whole golden sun franchise (my favourite rpg sites). This game is really worth it!
so i take it you have explored the debug rooms, played as link and fell through the crack in the ground at the end of the game in dark dawn so you can walk to places you shouldn't be and see things (like a lighthouse) you aren't supposed to?

garfreeek so the stuff outside dark dawn you would have to look up, but one of the games has a character sprite for link, with am action replay code you can play as him, and in both gba games there are codes to enter debug rooms, possibly more, I don't have them so I can't tell you much, you should look up cheat codes and check out thecuttingroomfloor and their articles on the series. Dark Dawn may have had stuff come out since I haven't looked since it was newer, but there is a spot early early in the overworld you can use to power level because the enemy encounters for the ending area overlap into it. More importantly though is the area where the final boss is. The last bit of overworld where you have a mountain trail has a teeny gap in the floor. If you save and reload right on it you fall through and can freely explore, going all the way home, actually seeing the crater, seeing the other side of that town that's divided and a lighthouse that you can't even see on a boat.
Sounds something out of Sherlock TV show! Can you not imagine the great detective and the humble doctor running through the streets and alleys of London?
heh. currently playing through Bravely Default again. currently finished chapter 4. i already completed the game so in a short while, the repetitive second half of the game starts. though it still has some great elements, working on the general story outline and providing even more lore to "side" characters. though the gameplay might be simple, the music, the voice acting (both JP and EN) and the overall story are great, making this one of my favorite games of all times.
Never played it, but really want to.

When I first listened to this game's soundtrack, I did not know what I was getting into since all the music that Revo did was for animes. After listening to it, I was very surprised with how great it sounded. This theme in particular is one of my favorite "Land" themes in the entire game. I should also say that all the character themes in this game are great as well. I'm shocked that this is only the second song you've uploaded from this game.
I haven't played Bravely Default at all, wasn't really interested in it, but Octopath Traveler is something I will most certainly have my eye on when it's out (and whenever I'm able to afford picking up a Switch ;~;)
