The only reason I know about Asterix & Obelix is because my sister got me a t-shirt of them when she went to Paris in high school. I believe it said (in French) "What are you laughing at?" and they were cracking up. Couldn't tell you about the games, though.

This game wasn't too bad actually, but often too hard and frustrating. The music is definitely its highlight. The sound quality is impressive (nice clarinet!) and the melodies solid as always when it's from Alberto Gonzalez. The Mountains from this game is a top tier SNES theme in my book.

Haha very true. In fact, SD's entire comment is very reminiscent of pretty much all Infogrames games I played in my youth.
I don't know why, but I always associate Infogrames with fun. Maybe because I really enjoyed the wackyness of Hogs of War or ... the "basically GTA" game that was Driver 2.

When I played it, I was so young that I couldn't get past the Oympic games because I wasn't able to mash the button fast enough. I was so happy when I finally managed to do it myself and didn't have to ask some adults to help me out.

Agreed, this game had a solid soundtrack and 'The Mountains' was a pillar even among other game soundtracks.
