Way too many JRPG music in these lists, and almost only nintendo and PS1 games, no megadrive or music from older systems :p

I was thinking Castlevania and Sonic. Genesis can only do spastic action music because its ability to emulate actual instruments is total shit lol
@Therealguymins Sadly yes, their music chip did very gritty hard music unlike the orchestrated-like sound of SNES, but it had some nice music, ECCO, Gunstar heroes, Road Rash, Sonic 1 and 2, it had some nice soundtracks out there
Dynamite Headdy did a really great job with instruments in my opinion. The track "Tonight's a Jazzy Night" has a great trumpet and piano. It's the kind of track that would fit in perfectly in some casino somewhere.
+Therealguymins I see where you're coming from. The Genesis wasn't necessarily striving towards instrumentation. Initially, it seemed to gravitate more towards electric, grittier sound. Later on, however, they just had to deal with what they were dealt in the beginning, and in the end, produced some of the greatest soundtracks in gaming history. At least in my opinion.

I had a 20 minute presentation somewhere about the Prime games (school) and why I think they succeeded and stuff. But even then I wouldn't hate anyone for having a honest opinion. Afterall, even though I think the discovery formula for Metroid is my most favorite thing, I like that the series can also be viewed differently because it just has a lot of things going for it. It's like me taking a liking to FF XIII even though it's bashed a lot (though it's more of a guilty pleasure in my case)
Third, so many other games have used the Metroidvania formula - even going away from 2D ones there's BioShock, Dark Souls, and the new Tomb Raider to name some major examples, and a sense of discovery can be found in other games too like Shadow of the Colossus and Journey. But that's just my take on it.
Afterwards, both 2D and 3D Metroid were showing signs of becoming stale, particularly the former. I guess I simply had a problem with the series just feeling like the same darn game every time so I'm glad that Other M shakes up the formula so much.
I guess the problem there is how I view the series myself. I play it more for Samus herself and the series' sci-fi aesthetic than the exploration. Furthermore, Metroid Prime is IMO better than Super Metroid in every way (though Prime is my favorite game of all time), and perfected the series' signature sense of discovery.
The stupid thing is that I started replaying Other M a few days ago and I absolutely love it so far - I'd even say it's right up there with the best in the series. Please don't hurt me for my opinion!
To be honest, the problem with Other M moreso than any other thing is that it lacked what Metroid was so damn good at. If there's one word I would use to describe Metroid, it would be discovery. Just the way you are send on an unknown alien planet without much knowledge makes it all the more satisfying when you find something. Prime extended this by making the story it's own collectable (scans). Other M's gameplay isn't necessarily bad, but unfortunately it took away what we love about it.

The creepiest part Imo was when Adam tells you that the Galactic fed stopped sending you support data. You realize that they wanted the SA-X's powers (your powers) to use for only themselves and thats extremely creepy.
The Prime games were kick-ass though
And every time it appeared before having the complete suit to fight it.
Only thing wrong with other m was the way samus was portrayed
I didn't like fusion that much tbh, loved zero mission to death though. Also liked the prime series. I hated other M -- I bought it just to see what all the fuss was about. Sold it in disgust a week later on ebay because I couldn't stand the fact that I had paid MONEY for that. -.- still only got about 4 bucks back.

I would honestly sooner insert vehicle and/or turret sections into Other M before I did any tinkering with its storyline or script (which was garbage, but I can live with it). My main gripe with that game was lack of gameplay variety.
Okay, maybe the whole "turn Metroid into Halo" was not the greatest idea. I basically want more gameplay variety. That was my biggest gripe with Other M, and the lack of gameplay variety there was especially bizarre considering how stuff like Twilight Princess and Super Mario Galaxy expanded on gameplay variety compared to previous entries in their series.
Better that than Other M's half-assed attempt at being Halo.
please for the love of god no, do not convert Metroid into Halo any more than it already is... it needs to go back to how it used to be, not transforming into other games.
Plus Other M reminded me more of Halo than it did of Super Metroid even though I've never played Halo. LOL.
Nintendo, either make a new 2D Metroid, or make a new 3D Metroid that has more gameplay variety than any previous game in the series. I want to see Samus man turrets and enter morph ball mazes again, not to mention maybe some extra features like...perhaps vehicle combat? And for those of you who says that sounds to "shooter"-like, I personally feel that the Prime 2/3 added plenty of shooter elements anyway.
@clickingpinging - Then I'd suggest you play Metroid II: Return of Samus :3 Metroid Fusion is basically a spiritual succsessor to Metroid II, likewise with Metroid Other M (in my opinion).

This, along with "On the Way to X" and the Phendrana Drifts theme on Metroid Prime, is the best videogame music I've heard.
Ugh... When the game zoomed in on the Sa-X's face, and you saw those eyes... Those eyes......! *shivers* Horror movies have nothing on this game.

@RATPT0I i've heard the music and seen the game and the overall presentation for me is what makes me fear it. System shock doesn't make me feel scared at all and the computer at the end was a let down. How was that supposed to be scary?
@SlamTheLabel Oh.... you obviously haven't played SS2. One of the many scare factors is Shodan. Imagine Glados, only actually threatening.

@MrMinkStar i like both 3d and 2d and i was born in the early 90's when super metroid and honestly both visual styles show metroid for what it truly is they just show it differently.

@LinkMarioSamus resident evil 4 isn't supposed to be scary if you want scary go with silent hill 2. Resident evil 4 is survival action not horror.

@disgaeahavok Take a look at the game's opening again. According to the game's canon, the scientists who treat Samus after the X infect her have to surgically remove parts of her Varia Suit(this occurs before they concoct the Metroid-based vaccine, of course. This all takes place in the prologue). The parts are then moved to the Quarantine Bay, which is where you first spot the SA-X. As for how the X got her DNA.. Samus' power suit is bonded to her symbiotically. It contains her DNA.

@disgaeahavok Scientists had to surgically remove parts of her suit which were infected by the X, and the X used these parts to form SA-X. The vaccine only destroyed the X's which were embedded in her central nervous system, but not the ones on her suit. Therefore, the X used the removed suit to form SA-X. This is also the explanation as to why the SA-X looks more like Samus than Samus herself, since her OLD SUIT was copied, and how the SA-X has no visible pupils.
@OdnetninAdlez I KNOW that, dummkopf. But the X was killed by the Metroid vaccine. Now, if all the Xs are linked together somehow, than yes, that explanation would be viable. But to my current knowledge, they aren't linked together.

@0nlyfu It's true. While Dark Samus and Phazon did die, how does the X gain her DNA? HMM? It got hold of some trace of DS and absorbed it.
@disgaeahavok Um, that's great that you have your own theory, but it's kinda completely impossible. At the end of Corruption, Phaaze is destroyed, and all Phazon in the universe is destroyed with it. Furthermore, all creatures that were infected with Phazon or mutated by it reverted to their original state, which is indicated and proven by Samus' bloodstream being purged of all traces of it(as you can see, she's not even wearing the PED in the final cutscene).

This was my first Metroid game, and I still love it to this day. I plan to play through it again when my Gameboy Micro comes in. It's interesting how this game was so much more atmospheric and creepy (and good!) than Metroid Prime: Hunters even though Hunters was superior in graphics and sound. Hey Nintendo: there is NO reason to not do another 2D Metroid. Thumbs up if you want Dread!
I lost my metroid fusion game at an airport. God I miss it, this game will always be special to me.
My friend had this game, and I really loved it. So we swapped games for a while, me giving him the extremely crappy Pokemon Pinball, he giving me this masterpiece. I always used to hide it whenever he came by to my home, so that "Oops I can't find it, what a shame" happened. When I finally gave it back to him, I almost cried (I WAS six at the time, after all).
@disgaeahavok The X were able to multiply and several SA-X were on board, luckly she did not have to face more than one at a time. It would have been interesting.
@0nlyfu Actually, SA-X IS Dark Samus. IT's the final game in the series in the timeline. After Prime 3, the essence of Dark Samus was absorbed by the X Cores and became SA-X. Awesome.

@dorgrim Heroic comment. Fusion isn't my favorite in the series, but it was a damn good game. Is it weird that being restrained by Adam strengthened the experience for me? It was done well, unlike that abomination Other M.
@omegafreddy12 Except by that same logic, Dark Samus isn't a "she" either, asshole. Phazon absorbs and consumes biological entities just the way the X Parasite does, and it wasn't just CONSIDERED for use as biological warfare by the Galactic Federation, it WAS used for it by both them and the Space Pirate forces(Phazon Troopers/Elite Troopers/Omega Pirate in MP1, PED Troopers and Pirates in MP3).
OMG people SA-X is not a "she" like dark samus it's an IT lol if u seen its other form u can take into consideration that it not only absorbed samus but other creatures as well not only that but it was already presumed as a biological warfare weapon the moment the Galactic Federation what uses it had lol

back in the day, this music used to send chills up my spine and make my hair stand on end. It still does to this day. So eerie and mysterious, and freaky too...

@Metaroid My heart still does. If Metroid games scare me, and I'm getting to Resident Evil 4 for the first time soon...
I remember playing this game back in June and then noticing that a new Fusion-esque Metroid game was on the way, and thus getting super hyped for it. Unlike that game this really is super awesome. The soundtrack isn't as good as Super Metroid but it's still excellent, which is saying something.
If this game gets remade in 3D, not only would it be as cool as the original, it would be very scary. Really, this game goes into the survival horror category at times. I love Fusion so much.

This game really had it down with SA-X. I felt emotionally drained after every encounter with it. Heart pound, edge of the seat, afraid to move, afraid to run, afraid to get stuck somewhere while running away...Then I got the screw attack, but by then I was invincible anyway.

@MrMinkStar No way. MP is SM in 3D. Think about it. MP was about as perfect a transition from 2D to 3D as you can get. Unless you're allergic to the first-person perspective. That said, I'd love a new 2D game on the DS.

i hated that spider with pasion, and SA-X scared me to death to when i was a kid now i just try to avoid her since she is still is OP and can easily kill me
when i was a bit younger, i could never get past the part after giant spider boss because the SA-X scared the living shit outta me (piece of cake now, of course)

I was literally shocked. I never expected Nintendo to put something THAT evil in the game.
At first, I thought "damn, this lifeform is fucking merciless." then i saw the sa-x. And found out that a 2-d sidescroller can also be a brilliant horror game. Seriously, that fucker still scares me today.

Yeah, that scared the heck out of me the first time! And the battle against it was a nightmare (pun intended).
That part was awesome and scary at the same time.
The SA-X. An enemy with my strongest abilities. But has it reason? Probably not. It´s just a killing maschine. In my current state, I can´t face it head-on. The SA-X is me, only heartless. I must stop it before it learns its potensial and threatens the universe...
The part that creeped me out the most when after you got the ice missles in sector 5, as you are going back in the main room you see a shadow fly around in the background making a loud scary noise!
I finally beat this game. It was so awesome. A hell of a challenge, but then it wouldn't be Metroid, now would it?

Yeah, not many games like this genuinely scare me - this one did. I'd be shaking whenever the mutant samus (I forget the name now) was walking around.
Haha yeah this was a hard game. I loved it though. Extremely fun, and it had a pretty touching story which I wasn't expecting at all.
i started a week ago playing Fusion & Zero Mission! its just like Super Metroid, simply AWESOME. :)
The linearity of Fusion might have been a downside overall to me, but... the game had an awesome atmosphere for a 2d game.
I remember, this game was brutally difficult. Way harder than Zero Mission.
