Man I'm a really big fan of your job, your vgm list and Alex Rochon's were amazing since I discovered them. I'm currently uploading my own Top 100 list in fact after almost twenty years of gaming. Do you have any advice to get natural viewers without being a spammer?
Confession time: I was a complete derp and sold the Tower Ring, causing me to miss out on a glyph and 100% completion. Why don't they warn or stop you from selling irreplaceable items (Or at least let you re-buy them like in Golden Sun).

LOVE IT. To overuse a cliche, this gave me chills when I first walked into the castle, because I wasn't expecting THAT after most of the rest of the soundtrack didn't impress me as much. Shanoa was easily my favorite lead of the DS era, and despite being an intentionally flat character, might even be my favorite lead in the series. Yes, even next to the whippers and Alucard. She also remained fun to play in Harmony of Despair, even though that game ultimately became "grind as Soma forever for drops, or grind as Jonathan forever to actually get damage."

My favorite Castlevania track is Sucessor of Fate from Harmony of Diasonace, serious for a game boy color limitations this track is amazing and very nostalgic, makes me a little sad too...

Supra's been releasing songs from games that came in out years that correspond with the VGM list entry number since #1980 or so.
As a person who has not played a Castlevania game, i am wondering which game would you recommend for someone new to the series. I have played some metroidvanias in the past ie Guacamelee, but I am just not sure about what would be a good entry to start with. Speaking of metroidvanias, I also miss the great music of Michiru Yamane.
Symphony of the Night is arguably the best Metroidvania, and Super Castlevania IV is the best non-Metroidvania. They're two of the easiest entries in the series, too, so they should be really good for a beginner.

I think Symphony of the Night is one of the worst Metroidvanias in the series. Overall, the better games are Aria of Sorrow and the DS trilogy, in no particular order.
I've only played Dawn of Sorrow and the original Castlevania for the NES and I really liked both. Though I can really only recommend Dawn of Sorrow to a "casual" player. The original Castlevania is fairly brutal in its game design; most notably how you can't change your jumps once you've started them. Interestingly, I'd categorize the original Castlevania as a strategy platformer. The entire gameplay is fairly slow and methodical, and there are some interesting choices you can make about how to clear stages.
If you haven't, I recommend trying some of the alternative modes for the DS Castlevania games (I.E., Julius mode for Aria/Dawn of Sorrow and/or Hard Max Lv. 1 for a variety of the games). At the very least, the latter gave me an entirely new appreciation for Order of Ecclesia's bosses, and I suspect if I were to try the mode on some of the earlier DS CV games I'd feel similarly.

Symphony of the night is by far the best Metroidvania-styled Castlevania game. It is also the first :) Anyway, don't make the mistake and accept the first ending you encounter. Almost every castlvania game since SotN has a bad ending at the half-way point.. and it is really easy to miss the part that let's you get past that.
Guacamelee is awesome, no CV will ever surpass it IMO. But if you want to Super Castlevania IV on the platform side.... and pretty much all the DS CV games;but really Guacamelee is the best.
The GBA Castlevanias are pretty good, too (I advise you play Aria of Sorrow before Dawn of Sorrow as the latter is a direct sequel to the former; and Aria has a mind-blowing twist.

Eric C. Symphony of the Night is what codified Metroidvania (with Super Metroid, of course). It is an excellent game and easy to find (it's on PSN). It's easy, though, but it's the first one, so it's fine. I personally like Aria of Sorrow, as it was may first Castlevania. The DS Castlevania games are all good, IMO. Portrait of Ruin gets a special shout out for its depth of content. Of the classic games, Castlevania 1, 3, Super, Bloodlines, and Rondo of Blood are all excellent. 2 is infamously strange, but worth checking out too. Super might be the easiest one to get into, while Rondo of Blood is arguably the best one. You can get Super for the SNES (and virtual console), while you can get the Rondo of Blood remake (with an unlock able original) on the PSP.

It's been almost 10 years since we last got to play a new Metroidvania from Igarashi. I wasn't the biggest fan of Ecclesia in comparison to his other games as I found the difficulty balance lacking and the disconnected worlds to be disappointing, but it was still a very good entry. It's crazy how Bloodstained will only release in 2018, but Igharashi knows he has additional pressure with Kickstarter behind it and I'm all for a carefully crafted game that doesn't feel rushed or blandly trying to pull nostalgia strings... looking at you, Mighty No. 9.

DoS gave me one town and I was glad, then PoR had the portraits which made me feel hopeful that there would be more like that, and Order of Ecclesia actually had areas outside the castle... but completely unrelated to each other and really short. Let's see if Bloodstained gives it to us. Also, best song in the game by far. By that point you feel so excited to go back into Castlevania and you're received by this song.

MIghty No. 9 ohhhh boy... I'm pretty sure everyone's feelings resonate together about that monster. Anyways as a newbie to the Castlevania franchise I'm actually pretty excited to see Bloodstained come out. Only playing Aria of Sorrow, I'm looking forward to seeing similar elements brought back. As for Ecclesia, I fell in love with the music...I'm looking at the cinematic intro and An Empty Tome of course. So I'll definitely play it eventually...XD
You thought OoE's balance was lacking? It was great, the previous few Metroidvanias were super easy and this one finally gave us some actual difficulty making it one of my favorite Metroidvanias. Plus, the Castlevania 2 reference near the end was flawless.
I'm sad Castlevania has stopped development. This franchise was before my time as I was pretty young in the early 2000's and 90's, and didn't have much access to gaming as others did. Someday I hope to download some good entries through virtual console and by other digital means.
This theme is truly somber and heroic. With this lovely darkness, it blends beautifully.

When Shanoa goes to Castlevania, she says she is the dawn light come to end this terrible night. It was a really profound and awesome line from her.
From the E3 footage it's not looking good at all, I mean bloodstained. Better don't set your hope too high, lesson learned from No.9
