I really liked how most of the dialogue in this game was text based, it allowed for the developers to put a lot more into each encounter. In most RPG games now the dialogue is much shortened and often cliche and boring because of it.
and because there was no tutorial, too much unsychronized text and no directional path to go (basically TOO open world in compare to Skyrim), I felt not only lost but lost interest in this game because of that :/ Music & atmosphere, and character creation is still great tho!
You must be remembering it wrong...Morrowind has an unskippable tutorial, and at the end you're given directions to Balmora, where you find the Fighter/Mage/thief guilds and the first step of the main quest. They even give you money so you can take the insect-taxi directly to your destination once you're done exploring the village and the noob cave nearby.
SD - always the best and exactly my favourites (Silent Hill 2, Morrowind, Zelda) ...maybe some Resident Evil 2, Kingdom Hearts next?^^
I'm still not exactly sure what it is that makes Morrowind so unique. The other Elder Scrolls games can be good, but they don't quite have the same magic that Morrowind did. I hope someday to play another game that reminds me of Morrowind.
Young Immortal It's because the Dunmer culture and Vvardenfell's wildlife was pretty far out there.
Beautiful music for a beautiful game. It'll forever be one of my favorites. It brought so much to Elder Scrolls. To be honest I've no hope for the series at this point with how Bethesda has gone since Skyrim but at least we'll always have everything that came before it.
How can you not love this? Always gets me pumped for some hitchhiking through Morrowind you N'wah's.

Morrowind's soundtrack was awesome, but I just wish it was longer. At only 45 minutes, it was way too short for a game of Morrowind's length.
Perfect timing for this one. Skyrim Remastered is rumored to come to the Nintendo Switch. :)
If TES 6 actually captures adventure and magic like this game did, it would probably be the best game in the series.

I've already said it in the last Morrowind upload, but I feel like games like this and the first big open world games I played had that magical feeling that I can hardly find anymore. I do believe part of the reason is that I was much younger and still very new to these types of games, which are much less of a rarity now. I'm excited to see Bethesda's next entry in the Elder Scrolls series, hopefully we won't have to wait too long for an announcement.

Amazing choice, this is my favorite song from the game, although the OST overall is god-tier. I don't share the same sentiments as you though, Bethesda has gone to shit long ago, and I am not looking forward to anything made by them. Skyrim was a disgrace, Oblivion did some things right, but it mostly did things wrong.
I think that's not the only reason why many open-world RPGs have lost their magic. I thought Skyrim was a big step back from Oblivion when it came to the quality of the side-quests and even the main quest. Many quests just weren't as deep, atmospheric or full of intrigue like those of previous games like Morrowind and Oblivion. Not to mention Oblivion had pretty good variety when it came to the side-quests, whereas Skyrim just seemed to have replaced interesting side-quests and characters with 'radiant quests'. I also thought Skyrim was pretty lacking compared to previous games when it came to how varied, beautiful, creepy etc the environments were, and many of them had dull grey and brown tones that started to grate on me. Just compare the Dark Brotherhood quest-line in Oblivion to that of Skyrim and tell me the quality hasn't been deteriorating and replaced with quantity. And Fallout 4... well... we all know Fallout 4 was nothing compared to FO3, or even New Vegas. There wasn't even that much quest content in FO4... it's like Bethesda has given up.
Enigma First Bethesda game I got to play was Bethesda then FO3. Skyrim was such a step down from Oblivion it felt like... so yeah I agree with every thing you said
Max Johnson Yep you nailed it. I did like Oblivion lots and well Skyrim was okay....at least the music was still fantastic, but Morrowind truly felt like a foreign land. I don't think I ever played a game quite like that since.
My first big open world games were Gothic and Gothic 2 (including Night Of The Raven), which I still love to play today. I would jump for joy to hear some OSTs from the Gothic series. Btw: The guys who made the Gothic series (except part 4) are the same guys who also did the Risen series
I'm about to start my first true open world game and I chose this as my first one. I may be 21 now, but maybe I'll experience some of that magic too?
Hopefully the next Elder Scrolls title isn't filled with as many bugs and glitches as its predecessors. Though Bethesda's games seem to get glitchier and glitchier which isn't so promising. :/
