I hope this trend of choosing a song from a game that came out in the year as the song's number continues up until 2016 with 2000 being a possible exception since it should be a truly magnificent track from any year in gaming.
While the NES and Gameboy versions are great, I'll still always love my copy of Tengen Tetris more.

I admit that despite having played tetris quite a bit as a kid, I never paid attention to ANY of the music in the game. I can only guess this was probably because I played it back when I turned the volume off as I hid under blankets to play into the night... I regret it, though, since these tunes are so iconic in the ears of many, and I completely missed out on that nostalgia.
Not the genesis but the poster child, the golden age, one of the most recognizable video games of all time that has been ingrained in video game culture ever since.
There were so many incredible games with groundbreaking soundtracks released in 2000...I can't think what could possibly be chosen to represent that year for song #2000. I'm thinking it might be Diablo II!

While Tetris was first launched in 1984, it's the Gameboy version released in 1989 that really propulsed this game into the stratosphere of popularity. Not only is it often seen as the greatest game of all time, but it's also by far the highest selling multi-platform game with nearly 500 million units sold (#2 would be Minecraft at 108 million). I spent so many days playing this game that I pretty much associate this Title theme with the Gameboy having been turned on.

same with me. also Tetris was the reason my mother bought me a game boy in the first place, after she played it at a friend`s place. Tetris succeeded to convince her, when I had been bagging for a game boy unsuccessfully for weeks. :D
