I dropped out of the series after Vesperia, but I picked up Berseria when it was cheap on sale. Once you get past the goofier parts of the story, there's a solid game with likeable characters. Some of the music is great too. This theme is excellent.
The best game track of 2016! One song's time condenses all of VIOVET's mental journey, which is great! Goose bumps are all up

В игре подобралась такая партия персонажей что это интересно. Вельвет, Айзен, Рокуро, Очень глубоко прописанные персонажи вот этой тройкой часто играю. Остальные тоже интересны. Второстепенные персонажи тоже нравятся. Демон кузнец чего только стоит. Самая пожалуй классная сказка где сюжет переживаешь. Глубина повествования поражает

I do n’t think so, Rokuro is also an important supporting role. The story of him and the blacksmith interspersed the whole game, reflecting the growth of Liulang. Use wisdom and skill to win rather than rely on weapons
@Eagle Nebula sorry for my bad speak in chinese traditional warrior they have a concept the "killing skill should not let the own family continue developing. Rokuro killed his brother,brother kill mather their skills need to kill the best user of the blade and focus develop that shit is 嵐月family

This is a wierd game series, while one of my most favorite ones of all time, i can totally understand how a multiplayer fighting-game-like-battle-system jrpg is quite a niché they have chosen. Sure you could play the games solo (or duo, which is a blast when your Girl enjoys JRPS as you do for example). I have never managed to get more than 3-man-multiplayer sessions in this series tho. (Some friends playing optional arenas with me :D). If only the other players could also do something outside out of combat this game would go up huge!

I'm digging this piece- so epic and interesting- but yeah, the Tales series needs a reinvention.
Planning on getting this game. The music here is good. The only Tales games I've played were Phantasia and Abyss for the 3ds. So I am looking forward to purchasing my first console Tales game. I just heard so many mostly bad things about more recent Tales games so I never bought them.
The latest one was polarizing. I really didn't like it much, but this one looks to be different to that in some good ways.
@Austin L I heard Tales of Graces F was bad too though I guess there are some who liked it that's why I've stayed away from all the new ones. I would have played Tales of Vesperia at some point if it wasn't an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Except that you don't get to sail around the sea and explore the ship like Suikoden IV. It's just select a destination to go there like FFX's airship navigation.

I never feel overly compelled to comment on your music selections, Supra. I typically show up, hear a great tune you were feeling that day, and leave. You know it's good (I mean this IS your job after all), and I know it's good. However, I really wanted to make a point to appreciate this track. The swells of music and the nearly heroic melody than rises and falls, navigating itself between various perils. I think it really captures a great sense of overcoming and invigoration. I know nothing of this character, but I hope she's half as compelling as this sounds. On the note of the games themselves, I've only played Tales of Abyss half way through on 3DS. It was okay. I think the best description I've ever heard of the series was JRPG fast food. It's not as revered as Final Fantasy, nor is it as stalwart as Dragon Quest. Hell, it's not even as weird as the Shin Megami Tensei games, but it's a solid B+ RPG. Yet, sometimes, that's just what you need. Anyways good choice today, have a good one! :3
Try to go a little further in the Abyss game, it's my favourite in the series. The last 10-15 hours of the game (depending on your speed) is amazing story and music wise. Even if you're fed up with it, try giving it a chance. After that, if it's still not your thing, well, there's no point to force yourself too much either. I hope you'll like it as much as I did.
BombOmbBuddy I disagree with that fast food comment. It may certainly not be as revered as FF, but in my books it is quite a bit better than whatever Final Fantasy dished out in the last 10 or so years (or, well, the amount of years that have gone by since IX). It also trumps Dragon Quest, a series I find to be incredibly lacklustre and mediocre. Not about to argue with SMT though, Atlus has been at the top of the RPG genre since the first SMT came out (not just Jrpg, rpg as a whole. Sure, there may be games capable of rivaling the best of SMT, (albeit a generic choice, Planescape Torment definitely deserves its spot among the most wellwritten games seen in history), but no other series has been able to so consistently deliver quality games, be it the mainline series, be it DDS which I recently finished and adored, heck, even Persona is an amazing spinoff series despite the rather strange hate it gets from certain SMT veterans.

While I've never played any Tales games (can't find any copies), I am looking forward to this game when it comes out in North America. It looks impressive so far.
berseria will be a weird place to start, though how can you not find copies? the tales franchise has always had pretty large prints and its super easy to find everything ps2, the psone tales are really rare for a physical release but they are all on psn anyway for like 10 bucks. Actually i think every ps3 tales is also on psn(symphonia HD, graces, xillia, xillia 2, and zestiria).
jsh020 Well I've found Vesperia (I've been wanting to pick that up), Zestiria, and Abyss on 3DS. That's about it actually
You should definitely try Tales of Symphonia on Gamecube or PS3 (easier to find, especially on the PSN), it's still the best in my opinion, and will procure a great entertainment as well as one of the best gameplay I've ever experienced so far. (you'll find it's not perfect, but what game is ?)
There's another Tales game? Man I need to catch up...
I'm starting to really fall behind with this series. I enjoyed all the games I've played from it, but I was already starting to feel franchise fatigue and from what I've heard, the games continue to mostly play it safe with the existing formula. At least it's a good one. I've seen great impressions for this game so I'm looking forward to its release here and if there's anything new it brings to the table. I find Sakuraba also plays it way too safe with his Tales soundtracks now, but this theme for the main character Velvet is very solid.

Sakuraba plays it safe with this series because that's what he's told to do. He's confirmed in interviews that the Tales Studio is way more controlling of that than any of the many other devs he works for.
Even this theme I find too much resemblance with one of Symphonia... not bad, just déjà entendu. (what ? you know déjà vu, you should know this one too.)
