fantastic boss. not so good sequel game
To me, Dark Souls 2 is the best of the series for actual gameplay. Best build variety by far, largest selection of equipment/spells/miracles/pyros/hexes, dual wielding that actually works, great PVP arenas for dueling, interesting covenants with unique mechanics, bonfire ascetics for a nice bit of sequence-breaking, worthwhile NG+ with new enemies, items and surprises, large amount of NPCs white phantoms and invaders, huge amount of bosses and DLCs that slot naturally in the game (talking about SOTFS here) for a complete package that provides an insane amount of level variety and value. Not to mention that in my humble opinion, the lore was excellent once you actually got the three crowns, consulted Vendrick, talked with Aldia and obtained the true ending. All that being said, Demon's Souls is still my favorite overall (or King's Field IV, if I want to get pedantic) and Bloodborne is my choice for most intense boss battles and soundtrack in general. (Ludwig's theme still gives me a little adrenaline jolt to this day)
To me, ds 2 is in the worst souls game (to be fair, i have not played demons souls) it annoys me that you have no kick and the Animations look weird, ds 3 is amazing, and ds 1 is good
That's fine, I respect your opinion and you're actually with the majority opinion on that one! (although surely you have other reasons than simply being annoyed by the kick animation?)
NeonCrusader yay, it plays kind of janky, i often found myself lost, a certain trigger for an enemy did not go off and stuff like that (ex. The guy that kicks the explody barrel down some stairs, then it explodes, breaks a wall and reveals a bonfire, took me 10-20 reloads until it worked) and the mechanic that you lose some of your health bar everytime you die, but other than that the game looked real good and had some great setpieces and lore
NeonCrusader but the kick is the best! Great it was back in ds 3
I like Bloodborne the best, personally. Combat in general feels a lot more free and open (and a tad faster) with the various options you have, and it has some of my favorite boss fights in the franchise. I didn't like the story as much AT FIRST, but I ended up loving the world and story even more than the others after playing through it a few extra times.
I know you could still basicaly kick in DS2?

Hopefully you have time to get to the bloodborne and dark souls 3 games. Both are great fun wise and soundtrack wise.
This is my #1 boss theme.
Seeing as Dark Souls is one my favorite games of all time, I can't really explain why it took so long for me to play this game, I just finished it. The series is quite intimidating because of how challenging it is, so that might be part of the reason, but it only takes a couple minutes of playing the game for you to get back into it and be addicted all over again. The gameplay is so rewarding, unlike anything else really. I hear a lot of people say DS2 is the worst game in the series but you know what? I absolutely loved it and thought it was very memorable, so if this is the worst the series has to offer (have yet to play DS3 and Bloodborne), then you know this is a special franchise. I did identify a couple negatives that weren't present in the first game: I thought the hitboxes were not as accurate and because of that, rolling out of the way or parrying didn't feel as on point. The interconnected world is also not as well made as the first game, but the quality and variety of each places are still top notch. The bosses were a big highlight, unsurprisingly. The 3 DLCs were also very good, with the Old Iron King having my favorite boss in Sir Alonne (accompanied by an awesome arena and music too). Awesome game which only helps cement this series as one of my favorites ever.
once you play Bloodborne and DS3 it will become more clear as to why DS2 is the weakest in the series
Sir Alonne was my favorite DS2 boss. Just incredible with an amazing theme.
I hope you get around to playing Bloodborne soon, it is my favorite in the Soulsborne series. I'm also glad to see someone doesn't give DS2 as much shit as it gets. I think it's a fine entry in the series, and while I don't find it as great as DS1 or Bloodborne, it is still a great game on its own.
Bloodborne has also almost managed to take #1spot in the series for me, however it is also arguably the hardest. Strongly recommend playing it, and then playing it again. And once more, just for good measure.
I think the problem is dark souls 1 left dark souls 2 too big of a pair of shoes to fill, it got to the point where each copy of this game would've had to come with a clone of Jesus to even come close to living up to the hype.
The mechanics of going out and fighting things works a little smoother in 2 than in the original, IMO. However, it lost a lot in the world. Something about it felt so much less interesting than either 1 or 3.
demon's souls and bloodborne are the best, in my opinion, followed very closely by dark souls. actually, they're all pretty much tied. i played dark souls 3 recently and it was really good, a definite step up from ds2, which is still a great game but the worst in the series by far.
It really doesn't mean much if someone says "game x" is the weakest of the franchise, since they're all awesome games.
Dark souls 2 was an above average game in my opinion, but when it comes to being a souls game it's a below average/bad game. thats mainly why it gets so much shit. While the dlc in the game was honestly amazing other than the basic enemies with a tiny twist and recolor being in every single one they had pretty damn good bosses. However when you look at the main game i could point out the major flaws in it but i'll give you two showing what makes the pve really lacking, the pathetic excuse of a boss that is jabba the hut, and going up an elevator into the sky only to be put into a city that sank into lava.
It's just like how Clear Sky is the worst S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. It doesn't have much of the depth the storyline of Shadow of Chernobyl has to offer, but it's still an amazing game. Especially when modded for freeroaming and for warring between factions.
hope you did play bloodborne since then...haha
