First second and I know it was Valkyria Chronicles. I discovered this game years after his release in Ps3 and became one of my favorite ge of all time.
This game really stood out to me. I was very emotionally attached to the characters, art style, world, and music. The gameplay wasn't too fun for me, as it was really easy, but I'm still very glad I played it. I'm sorta sad that the later released of this series have more neon-haired contrived anime style rather than this earthy, more real style.

Funny, I instantly thought this was ff12's song, but when I played Valkyria Chronicles I never noticed the same composer x_x
Recognized Sakimoto immediately on this one. Gotta love his work.

I always felt like there weren't any extremely memorable tracks. I love the game, and I even liked the sequels, but there's never been a soundtrack that really stood out to me as great.
Militaristic drums, pounding brass and harps galore - that's Sakimoto alright. Love it.
Wanted to love this game. Found out you get top "grades" for missions by just rushing objectives and not actually "playing" as such. Made me sad :( Still, a cool idea none the less.
Glad to see this game finally make the list. It's one of my favorites from last gen. It's a shame the third game was never officially released outside of Japan though.
Ah back then there were so many good WW2 based games, now it's just futuristic and shit. I'm glad DICE goes for a different approach with BF1 and i hope soon other developers follow.

You can tell it's Hitoshi Sakimoto; this track sounds exactly like his work on FFXII two years earlier.

Sakimoto's music in all three VC games is excellent.
I actually read some of the credits, noticed Nolan North (voice of practically everyone like Nathan Drake) and John Dimaggio (Bender in Futurama and Marcus in Gears of War) do voices in the game.
Two lines of dialogue that always had me rolling: 1. "Hi! I'm Ted!" *proceeds to shoot faces* 2. *BOOM* "Sorry, honey!" <- Dimaggio

I instantly recognised the music composer because of me having played FF12 over the years. It's such good music.
You can immediately tell that this is a Sakimoto composed song with the powerful brass and how energetic it sounds. I might have to listen to the soundtrack since i am really digging this song. I am also glad that this game was brought to PC.
It's hard to convince myself that this isn't from FFT.

I finally had the chance to play this game and finished it yesterday. Overall a great, memorable experience as I expected it to be since I heard a lot of people say it's their favorite PS3 exclusive (well, before it came out on PC!). The first thing of note is the great cast of characters and their varied personalities, you easily get attached to Squad 7. You see these major characters grow throughout the game and learning some of their backstories was interesting. The story of the Gallian War was also very well realized. The gameplay itself is also very solid and it feels like each battle can be beaten through different strategies. I personally found the Scouts overpowered, especially Alicia, and since the game rewards you for finishing battles as quickly as possible, I quickly limited my use of Shocktroopers even if they're top notch in attack and defense. It's even worst with the slow Lancers that were rendered mostly useless once you got a couple anti-tank battle orders. By the end, I would mostly use Scouts, Rosie and Largo for their extra CP, a sniper (very good to quickly clear out standing units) and an engineer (great support). While I thought this balance could have been made better, it didn't hinder my enjoyment of the game. Also, realizing that I could save mid-battle probably saved me a lot of frustration. As for the soundtrack, it's by the great Sakimoto and since I've played FF Tactics, I feel like he's the king of SRPG soundtracks. Overall an awesome game! I'm curious about 2 and 3 on the PSP.

great game but without a doubt definitely flawed. I hope the sequel fixes alot its issues to make this series one of the best tactical rpgs ever
How would you feel about having a prequel with Welkin and Isara's fathers as protagonists that would show what went down on not-WWI?
I just finished Chapter 18 over the weekend myself. Thought I'd move on to the next item in the backlog, but now I want to get Platinum since none of it seems particularly difficult.
Agreed 100%, wish the sequels were not just on PSP.

Are there different versions of the game on PS3? Because I have it but there are no trophies for the game. I just assumed it was because the game was released before trophies were implemented.
I never did beat this game. I got stuck on the battle against silmeria, when she uses her hmg, instead of her crazy valkyria powers. Might have to fix that.
People tend to not like lancers much, then at some point in the game, you recruit Audrey. That girl just destroys everything. My late game strategies were mostly centered with having Welkin be the personal shield of Audrey and using Marina/Alicia for clearing remote targets.
@JameboHayabusa Drop smoke just in front of your team at the start, have 3 snipers inch forward in the smoke until they just clear it and can get a clear shot, but are not getting shot back at. One shot from each sniper (she will dodge further shots from the same sniper) and it's over.
@Roderick van Noorloos Don't think so. The Remastered version was released this year on PS4.
