Awesome gaming experience, played through it 3 times practically one after another. Totally agree with SupraDarky's analysis. I feel most of the combat is there simply to make the platforming harder or to even add to it with the "projectile mechanics" that get added in later. And also for the purpose of the power-up drop mechanics.
An absolutely incredible metroidvania style game. Loved every moment of playing this game. Definitely a game that everyone should play at some point.
Amazing game overall. I need to play the definitive version for the new stuff, haven't gotten around to that yet.
This game is a masterpiece. A solid proof, if needed be, that 2D platformers and die & retry games are still relevant.

I finished this game recently and the verdict? Awesome. Only a couple minutes in and I was already blown away by the polished 2D art style, the music and the emotional plot, and it never let go. It's not often you see a game in this genre going for a memorable story with nice twists. Polished really is the word I'd use to describe this game. Controlling Ori feels like a dream, he runs fast right from the start, quickly earns skills that render him super agile and you can almost save anywhere, which gave me that emulator Save State feel. Because of that, the platforming and exploring are absolutely top notch. I do have to say that I found the combat system very average, to the point where I almost wonder if this could have just been a platforming Metroidvania. Ori is assisted by a sort of fairy called Sein who's the one taking care of the enemies by shooting them down, homing into them automatically at the press of a button. Because of that, the only part of combat that requires skill is dodging, not attacking. The problem is that dodging some of the enemies' attacks is either incredibly difficult because they're coming at you way too quickly and randomly (mostly bullet type attacks), or by the end mostly useless as you have enough HP to tank them and easily restore your health afterwards. Still, the rest of the game is so good and rewarding that I 100%'d it and still wanted more. I'm very excited for the sequel! Very recommended.
Believe it or not, Call of Duty has some astounding tracks. Try Seelow Heights from World at War, Heroes from Modern Warfare 3 and Nino Precioso from Black Ops 2. They're top notch tracks in my humble opinion.
Same. I 100%d it and wanted more. There's just something about the way Ori moves through the environment that is so satisfying. And thus ... it's also the first game I've replayed more than 3 times >> Gotta get scratch that itch somehow... As for music, love it. I love its main theme and how it has the epic feel, but also an emotional sadness and feeling of movement. ...Or maybe I just transfer my memories of sailing through the woods during the "escape" sections to the main theme, haha.

Worth every penny for both the game and its soundtrack. One of the stellar works of last year.
I have the game's soundtrack (bought legally since it is so beautiful!!!), but I never got the game itself. I missed it during the Steam Summer Sale since it wasn't on sale, but does anyone recommend the game itself? I haven't gone around to it because of school, but I have always been interested in it.

It is an amazing game, quite simply. A very original and polished spin on the Metroidvania formula. Some of the platforming can get really tricky, but with the save system (expend a point of your specials resource to create a respawn point more or less anywhere) it never feels like a burden.
