I really liked this game. I will go back to it one day. I remember one of the last times you posted a IoG OST you said you went back and played and there were lots of back and forward parts -- that used to drive me crazy sometimes! It's still a really great game.
Nice choice! I played this game so much during my childhood, plus Final Fantasy VI (III), Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger and Dragon Warrior Monsters. These games were my life back then. <3 Btw, just recently subscribed and have been going through all of your VGMs. You have really great taste in music! :)

I never understood people disliking this game. One of my all time faves, up there with games like the FFs, Chrono Trigger, SoM
I really liked the story amd atmosphere, but compared to Seiken Densetsu 2/3 or Chrono Trigger, the gameplay and combat really didn't hold up too well in my opinion.
+Goran Piljic Very true, I have to admit. I just found the atmosphere and the setting overwhelmingly great, peraonally. From a technical point of view it didn't hold up to others though.
It's a solid game, it wasn't proficient in anything, butnothing it did was bad. I like to compare the game with terranigma. And honestly, Illusion of Time/Gaia Plot isn't as convoluted. The other thing in IoT/G is, that nothing feels out of place. e.g. The Magic System in Terranigma didn't fit in the game.
The combat and gameplay were way better in Illusion of Gaia than Seiken Densetsu 2 & 3. Those two games were so grind-heavy. Seiken Densetsu 3 had better music than this game, though.
+drunyon214 The combat in Illusion? I always found it just to be "hit the enemy with the sword enough times". SD3 lets you charge your attack bar, has spells, you have to level up your characters to fit your playstyle, ... The overall gameplay might be a matter of taste, but SD3 gives you six characters, of which you can only choose three, three overall stories, branching character classes, all of which adds replay value. Your point of the pacing of the game forcing you to grind was interesting. I realized that whenever I played the game I sometimes grinded for a while to change classes earlier. (Talking about SD3 now, as I have played that far mor often than 2). I started a new game and tried to not grind a single bit. I.e. walk straight from objective to objective. I did completely clear every room though, even though technically I could have walked through them. And by now, with Lise, Kevin and Duran, very offense oriented, I beat the second god beast, I'm five levels below everything, but doing fine. I've had to go back to buying Poto Oils once, but stocked up 50 or so and it was way more than enough. If this trend continues, I can safely say you don't /need/ to grind in SD3. It's an option if you want to be stronger but not at all required.
This and In The Earth Womb are my favorite tracks in the game, both with great slow melodies, chorus and melancholy. This theme is especially sad when you know the scene that happens right before it plays, little pig Hamlet throwing itself in the fire, the ultimate sacrifice to provide food for native villagers hit by famine and resorting to cannibalism. Yeah, this game had its faults, but the setting, atmosphere and story certainly weren't some of them.
imo IoG doesn't really have any faults. It was pretty solid for it's time. But it hasn't any strengths neither, except the story-telling (for it's time)
i think this game is perfect, not much games touch my heart like this one did
