When I was a kid I remember buying this based on the images on the BACK of the case. It's my favorite Suikoden, although 3 and 2 can be depending on which day you ask me. Favorite memory from this game: Hearing the Black Dragon roar and thinking "That was totally an elephant." Favorite song: Rising Tide.

Music in this game is so good. Gregminster, Rockland and Distant Mountain.
This was one of the first songs from this soundtrack that i truly loved. I have not experienced this game or it's sequel, but i may do that someday.

Been interested in trying the franchise for a while. Do I need to play them in order? And which one do you guys recommend that I should start with if not?
+JFK piano I'd recommend playing them in order, with the possibility of skipping IV from what I've heard (I haven't played it myself). Suikoden II is my highlight of the series.

+JFK piano Play all of em oldest to newest straight up, even Tierkreis and Tactics. Suikoden is easily one of the best franchises in gaming to this day with II being one of the best games of all time. You'd think I'm exaggerating, right? Fuck that, it's just that good.
I'd definitely start from the beginning. Suikoden 2 is the best video game sequel ever. You wouldn't understand the references if you skipped 1. Still a good game on it's own, but it becomes legendary if you've played 1.
This has always been one of my very favorite themes in the whole series. It has versions in Suikoden II and V as well. There's just something with the melody and instrumentation that strikes a chord. Lots of nostalgia.
+SupraDarky I've never had the chance to really experience this game, and even I can still hear the nostalgia pouring out of this song. This is some powerful stuff we got here.
Although, that may be partly because I'm hearing pieces of the song that sound similar to Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Dragon Quest IX soundtracks.
