im going to say it now the original soundtrack is overrated. its good but not 'godly' as people would like to rate it. its nothing special, it doesnt move the medium forward, its just standard jrpg music with rock and roll. it just doesnt tick with me. but this games soundtrack does. it moves the soundtrack game industry forward with great sounds and absolutely masterful overworld themes and then theres themex. that standard of video game music(And yes i dont like the NLA theme much, but that doesnt detract the soundtrack at all, like other people says to be). its good if you like the original, but its not for me. if you want a JRPG music but with unique melodies and percussion, go to nier!

This soundtrack is definitely at its best when they left out the vocals. No "uhhhh" or "yeah" or "I cant take it". Im also tired of traveling along the ground just to avoid the skell flight theme.

The soundtrack to the original Xenoblade will hold a special place in my heart, but this soundtrack is still fantastic in its own right.
I always seem to find myself coming back to OST videos on Xenoblade Chronicles X, tying to make myself enjoy the game's music. I absolutely adored Xenoblade Chronicles' God-tier soundtrack and it made my whole experience with the game all the better for it. When I hear X's music I just don't feel that same kind of enjoyment and it just keeps me from wanting the game at all. (It doesn't help that I don't care for Sawano's style in the slightest) I may just be preaching to the choir here, but does anyone else have that feeling of enjoyment from the first game, and is able to get something similar out of X?
+Cakeman777 I played throught all XC this summer, and bought XCX on the first day, and I must say that I didn't got the same vibe. Yes it's more complex, the fights are harder and require more "strategy" at the beginning, but looking on the OST, I got a bit disapointed. I haven't played much( 15 hours) because I'm spending my holiday away from my WiiU, but for now the landscapes are beautiful and the enemy design is superior.
I got the enjoyment from the first one to XCX. XCX is my new favorite game of all time!!!!!!
+Cakeman777 What I like with XCX is how much it differs from the first XC. XC feels like the perfect fantasy jrpg, while XCX feels like a completely unique experience unlike any other. Everything form the music, art design, atmosphere and battle system. Another good example of this is how the story in XCX evolves. In XCX, the main chapters are just the main chapters of the story, not the full story. All of the side quests (which is far better than in XC) provides a lot to the story as well. This kind of story telling really fits an open world, but leaves players who wants a more streamlined storytelling, like the one in XC, dissapointment. I like both XC and XCX a lot, and I can imagine me replaying both of these games in ten years, but if you play XCX expecting a new XC you will be dissapointment.
I do. I love both games/osts equally I'd say. Both osts have their own intention and they fit their purposes perfectly IMO. Most importantly I'm not pitting them against each other in my head, but enjoy them for what they are.

This guy definitely has a very recognizable sound. You hear it in Attack on Titan, Gundam Unicron, Owari no Seraph, & Aldonah. Zero. Great pieces, but sometimes sound too similar across the board. Love it regardless.
+LightHawkRX1 The same is true for a lot of composers, the Follins brothers, Nobuo Uematsu, Motoi Sakuraba, Jeremy Soule, Harry Greggson-Williams, Beethoven, Gabriel Faure. Everybody just has a unique, recognizable sound to them.

I mean, when viewed individually, Sawano's tracks are quite solid, but If I listen to three or four songs in a row I get super tired. He reuses the same motives and ambience way too much. I concur with some comments here that say that he is much better when he gets inventive.
If you know one Sawano song, you know them all. The only difference is that some of his tracks also have either shitty vocals or german vocals that are just gibberish random words that don't make any sense. Wasn't happy about Sawano composing the Xenoblade OST and this game's OST kinda confirms my concerns. Still, the overall OST is still not as bad as I expected. It's "not memorable at best" instead of awful.

Xenoblade Chronicles is my 2nd favorite soundtrack of all time due to its variety in themes. From the upbeat battle themes like You Will Know Our Names and Mechanical Rhythm to the absolutely soothing town themes like Colony 9's night theme and Nopon Village's night theme. Even the songs that play exclusively in cut scenes are great and enjoyable to listen to own their own. All this combined with superb entries by Yoko Shimomura and ACE make up my second favorite soundtrack of all time. I will get back to playing Xenoblade Chronicles some time, but it will take me a long time to complete it.

@Eric C. mmmm yeah that one is a masterpiece! Personally, Metroid Prime (1 & 2) are my fave soundtracks because they are so atmospheric and well-composed.
I'd say xenoblade chronicles is my fav, but it might change with zelda breath of wild, that game's trailer had some greeaaat music.

This soundtrack is one I definitely want to get. There's so many good songs within this game. I'm not that far into the game, but I'm eager to here what other masterpieces lie in wait for me to hear.
My first upload from this game was bocked in the US due to copyright, so I'm expecting it to happen again for this video at some point. I started playing Xenoblade for the first time, I'm about 10 hours in and I haven't even scratched the game's surface yet, but I'm loving it! Technically masterful, awesome soundtrack, good story... if there's one thing I'm still not too sure about, it's the combat system and the UI. I'll see how my thoughts develop on that as I keep playing it. This sequel seems just as great and while some of the music is very good, I still wish they had kept the same team of composers. The game has a great soundtrack, but Xenoblade has an amazing one.
I honestly think that Sawano is... kinda, well, overrated. Don't get me wrong, his music is still great by itself, but sometimes it kinda sounds rather uninspired and repetitive. Just my opinion.
+E-Mann He's best when he moves outside of his standard patterns. When he gets inventive, it leads to some pretty neat sounds.
+Fellshard He's kind of like the Hans Zimmer of Japan, but only a bit better. Yes, I also think Zimmer is overrated as well. A lot of movie scores literally copy his style just because it sounds modern and "Hollywood-esque".
+SupraDarky The game's music is great when Sawano is at his best, but the worst tracks in the game are embarrassingly bad. I rather dislike the NLA music (especially at night) and I don't care for the vocals in most of the battle music I've heard. I like a lot of Sawano's music in the cutscenes, but I think his inexperience composing music for games shows at other times.
@E-Mann My opinion is precisely the same for Zimmer. Check the soundtracks to the Sherlock Holmes films. Superbly done, and partially because he intentionally chose a very distinct palette.
+Fellshard I guess I just like the "neo-romanticism" style in old movies much better, like Williams. Of course, I still think Sawano alone is still good on his own.
+E-Mann Yeah, he is a bit. I do like some of his better work, which often comes from the OSTs that seem to lie outside of his own comfort zone, like the kill la kill and aldnoah.zero OSTs. I think he often just ends up churning out music for the next "big shounen" release, which kind of seems like what is happen in recent days (although that's not always the case). He seems to have found where his "style" works and works there solely. He does know how to get the hype going during a show though. I'm hoping that any work on Kabaneri of the Iron fortress is a bit fresher at least.

@Gmaniac01 its pretty much my view on this take. i see coments saying xc has a god like or perfect soundtrack which i dont agree since its your typical jrpg soundtrack. and it has some generic and filler tracks

I much prefer this game's soundtrack than the original Xenoblade. It's great and all, especially the main theme, but this game has even more amazing themes that fit the tone so well and are just overall superb (excluding NLA lol)
