Whenever I hear this song begin, my mind still expects to hear the undoing of the Binding Force a few seconds later.
Have to say that this is one of 5 Zelda games I find to be bad and the only 2D Zelda game I think is bad. But the music is great and I love the Mele version especially.
I'm not too familier with this soundtrack but what I'm hearing is pretty awesome I must admit.
The difficulty can be off-putting, but this game is still pretty fun to this day. I think this game has held up better than the original, which might have been a bit TOO ambitious for its time. Zelda 2 took more tried-and-true gameplay elements which were more practical at the time.
I don't think either it or the original game hold up at all. Both have so many flawed design decisions that would never be repeated by designers today, because they learned from games like this one.

Huh, I'm surprised this isn't on your list already. So having never played or grown up with this game, my first exposure to this song was Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Now, Melee was how I first learned about the awesome Palace theme, but I also enjoyed the Brawl remix of the Palace and Great Palace themes. :)
I'll forever remember this game as the one where you chop down trees with a hammer. Couldn't they work an axe into the story?

The SSBM remix of this is one of my favorite songs. Absolutely love the Great Palace theme, in just about any variation.
I've got such fond memories about this game. My Dad got into it and we would sit down and play it and try to figure out stuff on our own. I would play and he would take notes or even draw crude maps so we could beat a dungeon and progress. On top of that, the music is very memorable!

This game had a pretty cool soundtrack.
The final dungeon's theme which automatically reminds me of Thunderbird, thinking it was the final boss until you have to face Link's own shadow (Dark Link). I'd definitely be up for a clean remake of this game, but I can't see it happening.
+SupraDarky I love the way they incorporated this into the Smash Temple remix for Brawl, but tbh I like the Melee one a lot more.
Surprise! Surprise! Heavy use of magic can accumulate in the Great Temple. Thunderbird isn't helpful when it comes to magic conservation.
