THis game, and this song defined my childhood. While I never finished sonic 2, my fondest memories were spending time playing it with my friends, trying to get through those last few levels (Metropolis zone and those mantis were nightmares)

All the Sega Genesis games sounded the same for some reason. It's like it had 3 built in instrument sounds that everybody and their brother used. I love this game, but in all honesty the SNES beat the shit out of the Sega Genesis when it comes to game music.

Why does it seem that in all the classic Sonic games, one of the hardest zones was always the second one? Think about it, we have this, Marble Zone, Hydrocity, and Flying Battery. It's like they start you off easy with a nice grassy stage and then BAM! Shit gets serious.

I remember the first time I saw a Sonic game...in my after school daycare in the first grade. Another kid was playing Sonic 2 Chemical Plant Zone when I walked into the room. When my mom picked me up, first words: MOM...MUST...HAVE... SEGA. This song awakened me to another world.
@ShadowACS Some of the best SNES music comes from Nintendo's core titles and Megaman XD, I actually like Hill Top Zone music it took a different approach music wise

@yatah Really? This song just drips with 80's classic rock/hard rock. It's got that nice bluesy feel that would be perfect for guitar. I agree that the song isn't that hard to play on guitar (I can play it, and I'm not an expert by any means).

I was'nt a sonic kid, but a played it every now and then at a friend's house. One thing that has allways baffeled me is that somehow Sonic fans seem to like the Green Hill Zone theme better then this one. It might be because there is'nt any save function and the Green Hill Zone theme got etched into their brains, but for me this is the best song of the Sonic games.

I remember I after I beat this level, I never played the next one. I just reseted my genesis and played the first two levels again.

This song was always a badass tune... it didn't hurt that you could get going so fast in this level you could run off the right side of the screen. The music fit perfectly with the crazy speed possible in the level.
There's a trick that's hard to get, but I use it all the time now to get past the purple fluid. You gotta take the top path, and when you get to the ramp past the twin loop de loops... jump while you're still on the ramp! The speed will carry you up and you should land past the fluid area.

Ever since I plugged in my sega the first time back when I was like 8-9 or so and played SOnic games, the music was stuck in my head. It was manipulating me to automatically hum along with and replay Sonic again and again :P Seriously, at least half of the games greatness came from the music.

I don't care what everybody say. But to me Sonic jumped the shark after this zone. No other Sonic stage in 2D or 3D form came close to matching the speed, insanity, and Audiovisual bliss of the Chemical Plant zone. Chemical Plant Zone made me believe in Blast Processing in 92.
That's because games with lower graphics obviously had their priorities straight... I love great graphics, but icing on the cake needs a cake to go on, Resident Evil 4 got it mostly right IMO Also, this song rules but I hated the level it played in

The lower the graphics (in MOST cases) the better the music and gameplay :D
The PS1 was on par with the N64 game library wise. I had both systems and they both had amazing exclusive games with great gameplay. Graphics were about even until the last couple years of each consoles' lifespan when the CD format allowed the PS1 to look better. Xbox started the "Omg epic graphics, shitty/cookiecutter gameplay..." mentality that plagues the industry today. I would say the last great system was the PS2 since people are still buying it today even with the 360 and PS3 out.

But I am currently applying to contribute to a fanproject called "Sonic 2 HD", where they try to make a HD version of Sonic 2, complete with new artwork, music and all. I dunno, Mario's just nothing special for me. Of course, everything about Mario screams nostalgia and epicness to a wider public, much more than Sonic, but Sonic's just better for me personally because ... well, yeah. See above. :D
yeah, in time. I had a Game Boy before I got a Genesis, but Mario never did it for me. Sonic was (and is still, in my opinion) way cooler than Mario.
I dunno. I just replayed Sonic 2 + 3 on my PSP homebrew, and I was fighting with the Carnival Night zone. Went much easier than 15 years ago! Chemical Plant was so fast, sometimes I lost track of Sonic.
