That sinking horrible feeling when "Metropolis Zone - Act 3" comes across the screen.....

this song was motivation to make it this far in the game. Same with Death Egg from S&K
I remember ordering my Model 2 Genesis off of Amazon (because model 2 was cheaper) and receiving it in the mail along with Sonic 2 and being SOOO excited! A couple weeks later, I spent like a total of $100 on Genesis games. Such a memorable moment. Of course, this didn't happen in the 90's, so it doesn't quite have that nostalgia factor yet. I guess I'll just have to wait 15 years... Sigh...
The game that started it all for me. For me this song was a signifier that I was getting close to the end of the game.
The only reason i could handle the bullshit level design was because of this tune my god is it great
Man, this area was so much fun for me as a kid. I've always been into machinery and other things of that nature, so this level was video game heaven for me. I kept playing from the beginning just to get back here over and over again.

I agree with you that Chemical Plant Zone is by far the best song in any Sonic game, but I'm surprised there aren't more songs from this game on the list... this game had a great soundtrack, probably the best on the Genesis in my opinion.
It's a crime that you haven't done Emerald Zone yet. (or whatever the first zone was)

Freaking love this zone. Right up there with Chemical Plant. This song was always one of my favorites, too. Simple but catchy, and it worked well with the environment.

2 is easily still my favorite Sonic, though I feel Generations could've topped it if they had more stages to that one(maybe more games represented and a couple of stages per game, one voted by Sonic Team, one voted by the fans). If that were the case, Sonic Generations would be hands down the best and one of my favorite games of all time. Honestly it might even be nice to have other playables(BUT kept simple, and only as bonus unlockables). But that's just me. Others may feel different.

I've had pretty weird schedules these days, which explains the unusual upload times. Anyways, I still think Chemical Plant Zone's theme is above any other music in the 16-bit Sonic games, but they still had a lot of other classics. I remember Metropolis Zone being challenging but still enjoyable. I also liked the graphics in that zone (the background and because there was a lot of green, my favorite color as a kid).
