I love Shenmue. It's a game about the little things, and after all, isn't that what life is all about? Small pleasures? Enjoying the details?

So honest question... why is this game liked? I saw a couple of gameplay video, it looks like a simulation game coupled with light fighting elements. Is there more to it? I might check a complete playthrough to get why it's so praised, but now I don't get it...
@C_Clop If you compare it to some games now, like GTA 5, it obviously seems slow and even boring, the thing is back then it was impressive because the world they've created looked so real and alive, I mean, almost each individual people had it's routine and you could find them at various point during a day doing different stuff, also, the story is very intriguing, the combat is Virtua Fighter Style, and the graffics were amazing for 1999.
@God Blessed Video 2 Ok, that explains a lot more. FYI I don't even like GTA games, so that may be why I don't particularly find this game appealing. I don't really like simulation-heavy games, and I generally favor gameplay over story, even in RPGs (fighting games aren't my favorite genre either). I might check out more of it someday though, since so many people treasure this game. Thanks for the info!

So glad you posted this one...my favorite was when it was snowing in the first game and you had to go back home at the end of the night to go to bed....so calming...i wasn't as crazy outward excited as that one guy on that gaming show who went crazy
The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3, Nier 2... This E3 was the E3 of "Games I thought were super dead but turned out to be happening" Bless Sony and Square (I can't believe I just said that) for bringing me these games.

@Dalton McBleh The last guardian had one of the most underwhelming gameplays and graphics ive seen. Nothing impressive. Just an annoying kid and his gigantic dog jumping stuff. Shenmue, Nier 2 and FF7 announcements however, that's where shit got real
@heyjeySigma Being a fan of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, just seeing The Last Guardian EXISTING was enough for me to get hyped. Seriously, I thought that game was gone for good. Shameful as it may be, I've never actually played FF7, so I am happy that there's a remake in the works. Now I have a chance to play a decent Final Fantasy game :P
@Dalton McBleh yea man i loved Ico and SoTC as much as you and many others but.. lets be honest here, i wish they made shadow of the colossus 2 instead of this..this damn kid and his oversized rat dog lol. I dont see anything mindblowing in this. But we"ll see
@heyjeySigma Eh, not much reason to make another SotC. The story started and ended in that game, simple as that. A sequel would kinda ruin it, in my eyes. But yes, let's just wait and see what The Last Guardian may have for us.

Wow, this is a really upbeat convenience store song! Kind of like that one Japanese convenience store song that became a meme (except... not really :P)! I'm glad that Shenmue 3 is happening, and I'm glad its Kickstarter goal was reached! I'm a little sad that no big developer wanted to fund the game itself, but hey... in the end, if we get to finish the story of Shenmue, our wishes are about to be granted.

@MCHellshit kinda unfortunate but fair enough. Maybe shenmue 2 is better than 1. I havent played the first
+MCHellshit tbh I agree in some senses. I liked the game but the QTE idea and gameplay experience was kinda shallow. The combat system seemed interesting with the special attacks and scrolls, but I never felt motivated to dig into it nor did I need to to finish the game. On the flip side, I felt it had the highest level of detail and realism I had ever seen in a game especially for its time (it is one of the most expensive games ever made after all). Its soundtrack was moving. The game world felt more alive than any I had dived into. That said, I think I respect it more as a work of art than a game.

I had a feeling you might upload a Shenmue song after seeing the third announced. I've never played them myself but I'm glad people who have been wanting it are finally getting it.
As a Shenmue noob where can I play the first two games? Are they only on dreamcast?

I have had really good experiences with dreamcast emulation. I played them both on DC and can't tell a difference with the emulator
So yeah I don't like Shenmue very much at all, but isn't it great how we live in a time something like this can happen for/due to the fans?

Shenmue 3 is happening, I simply can't believe it. The 2M$ Kickstarter funding goal was shattered not even 12 hours after it was launched! In the #1600 video, I said I was hoping for a Shenmue 3 since Ryo's story needed closure, but wasn't sure it would ever happen... and here we are. One of my favorite series ever, it helped define my gaming childhood and is one of the main reasons I absolutely want to visit Japan someday. I can't wait. I had to go with the game's most epic and emotional theme for this: Tomato Convenience Store.
Its happening its happening hype hype hype all aboard were not stopping until this series is FINISHED!
