SNES was my first home console adn Super Mario World and Street fighter 2 were my first games. That's good old times.

Nintendo needs to get a bit more ambitious with the NSMB level designs. generally, they lack the complexity that really definied SMW (and even SMB3), especially with certain levels (ghost houses) that forced you to stop dead in your tracks and think things out. I guess Nintendo would rather keep NSMB simpler for a more streamlined MP experience.

Awesome choice! I love how the music adds so much more to the level. It makes one feel that you are in a dark mysterious underground cavern. The main instrument that gives life to this melody alsot gives its majestic soul to the level. The way it drags on when it ends it note is just cleverly played. Sad that almost nobody REALLY listens to this track like it should be listened to.
I like the Yoshi version of this song best. That drum beat adds a lot to it.
This and SMB3 are my favorite in the 2D aspect. Galaxy+2 and 64 for 3D :) (i really didnt like Sunshine im afraid)

Agreed. As great as SMB3 was, I preferred SMW due to the alternate stage exits, keyholes, etc. Ghost houses, switch palaces, and Yoshi were good additions too.
Basically, I think that SMB3 is more original, as it came out first, but I prefer the level designs and refinement in Super Mario World.
Replying to an old post, but... Beta64 has a really phenomenal episode on Super Mario World where it's mentioned that SMW was, in its _very, very early_ days, prototyped as a port of Super Mario Bros 3 to the SNES. SMB3 was the baseline to which they added and changed and tweaked pretty much everything to eventually get Super Mario World.

But the drum only plays when you're on Yoshi, and every piece of music does it...
I absolutely loved the music in this game. I still have this games soundtrack as one of Kondo's crown and jewel soundtracks along with Super Mario 64. As for the game, I still haven't finished it.

One of those few games I could replay a million times and still never get bored of it. I finished and loved New Super Mario Bros on the Wii U, but the "New" series is simply not as memorable even with its stellar level design, in major part because of its bland audiovisual presentation which makes it feel like it lacks soul. SMW is a true classic.
I think the art style for the New series is fine, it's just the recycled music that drives me crazy.

The Galaxy games and 3D World have so much better audio and visual presentation than the NSMB games, it's ridiculous.
@Sn00zy I think the biggest irony here is that now that Nintendo is going to be developing iOS games, they'll probably put more effort into those than the recent New Super Mario series.
Yeah, I think Mario's 3D games have been much more stellar than his recent 2D games. Which is an odd thing to say for a series as old as Mario.
It didn't hold my attention enough for me to even beat it. :/ I liked bringing back the old gameplay style but they know what we're all waiting for.
Videogames rarely hold my attention for that long. Usually beating a game ends up involving doing too much of the same shit I already did over and over. If you don't have new challenges and mechanics to throw at me, wrap up the game.
