Alundra 2 was one of the biggest deception I came across in my youth. A failure bearing the name of a masterpiece.

I loved Alundra 2 growing up, never hearing of what the original was until a few years ago. Just now getting to it, and while I still love Alundra 2 because I can separate the two, I can see why people shun it now.
They should have made Alundra 2 the sequel of Alundra 1. After Melzas dies, Alundra goes back to his hometown and more adventure begins. :)
Instead we got a bunch of garbage for 2. Sadness.
Christ! keep your hair on man. I wasn't accusing you of anything. I just used Crysis as an example because a lot of people (including developers) seem to think that the graphics make the game which is of course not true.
But very few of them have been in the same league as this game. You can keep your fancy Crysis graphics showing an ever more realistic floating gun.; I'll stick to the game with the great story thankyou ;)

If you like this game I reccomend you play Landstalker on the sega genesis. They're very similar.
@Patney1 That's exactly it. On the other hand, it had some of the most enjoyable boss fights in an game.
I loved this game a lot, but it's really challenging. The only thing I don't like about it is the jump feature. When you can jump in a game prepare to fall and try again and fall and try again and fall and... sigh...

If you enjoyed Alundra and want to play another, I agree, do not play Alundra 2 . Landstalker for genesis would be a good choice, the game that this one is based on more or less.
@YinYang19 Take my advice.. Avoid Alundra 2 like the damn and bloody pox that it is. The gameplay wasn't up to snuff, The story couldn't keep it rolling (predictably dull) Even the music couldn't match up to its predecessor. I can't believe I even sat through days of trying to beat it *eyetwitch* Alundra all the way baby.

@Sinspiration Well I'm just saying that kind of thing does happen, but I understand at least there are similar characters and/or reference points/constants with the other franchises (even if that constant is everything being different like FF). As I mentioned companies are sometimes dirty dogs who go Q:"how can we make money off a piece of shit??" A:"....We'll sell that piece of shit with a label that reads 'GOLD' so ppl will buy it". It was indeed blunt and they didnt think it out too well.
@MrZangetsu468 Yeah but this is about as blunt as a mace blow to the face. Alundra was called 'Alundra' because the iconic character of the game was ALUNDRA, the Zelda Series at least always had a Zelda, final fantasy.. I don't know how to start on that really, considering the first game was called Final Fantasy it amuses me that there's been so many 'Final' fantasy games *snort* humorous at best. But Alundra 2 didnt feature "Alundra" at all, no mention, no references, no dreamwalking. Nada.
@Sinspiration Agreed. But they obviously partly did that for Alundra 2 to be recognised and to sell more copies. Companies do this all the time. Alot of people debate about whether the recent final fantasies, castlevanias and zelda games are true to their previous iterations... This goes all the way back to NES Zelda II syndrome
it would be impossible for me to rate my top 5 games of all time, because franchises often come out with new games which I like more or less than their predecessors... But Alundra on its own is the gem will always take one of those spots, now that my friends is a Real Game.... Alundra>Zelda ALTTP

Make NO mistake: One of the greatest (and among the most underrated) games of all time. Better than a lot of Zeldas. As far as Zelda goes, only Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past can stand up to Alundra. AND it comes out on PSN Tuesday! Can you say instant purchase much?!

Nah, sry fella but that's your Opinion. Zelda ALTTP alone crushes this game, no,, series. Call me a 'fanboy' but there's no comparison just because it may tug at people's JRPG heartstrings. Skyward Sword is one of the supposedly 'weaker' Zelda games and I prefer it infinitely more to this; I remember returning this to Blockbusters all those 20 years ago! Just because it's nostalgic, doesn't mean it's good
i think zelda is better then alundra, but this game is definatly worth playing, its a hidden gem that not many people know about

just think about it Playstation (Sony) whatever could of had a big hit with Alundra such a big disappointment that it didn't develop could of been competion for Zelda as well.
@ShiroZ0mg Are you serious? Man that game was so bad...it bears the same name with virtually none of the same staff, and a watered down story, the puzzle pieces you collect to increase your combos actually make you worse as the standard sword swing is way stronger. That game was horrible...man.

yeah man i get you, im a great zelda fan but i recognize an excellent game and at first i thought this was a rip off of zelda a link to the past but i was so wrong, the game its similar but so much more deep, that well .... only playing it anyone can get the feeling its just awesome.
I might love Zelda, but Alundra is obviously much much better. It is reaally immersing, with an incredible story, and a huge array of characters, each with their own personality that will make you either love them or hate them with a passion. For those who haven't played Alundra, but like adventure/rpg games, I recommend this game. The puzzles will make you want to punch puppy fetuses, but I can't think of a game that's better than this.

Extremely awesome game, very very involving. Some of the puzzles (the dream where you have to move Ice-pillars around, for example) stunned me when I was younger. It's also very beautiful. 10/10!

You should definetly give it a try. If you like puzzleadventures like zelda. Storys excellent and the last dungeon has one of the best piano pieces I've ever heard.

OR they should of made alundra 2 the same character, not the stupid pirate with the gay hair, they proved that they was being lazy with the main char design which spoiled it for me.
Yes I agree with most people, this was better than the zelda game, if only they wouldn't of changed EVERYTHING going into alundra 2.. Maybe they should of kept it to alundra type graphics until better engine came out, I think it could of still been alive today.. alundra 3 =[.. 4.. 5, would of beat zelda.
Totally agreed, there are better tracks than this in the game (Kline's Dream, Mediam's Past and The Holy Demon Shrine, Arisen to name but three), but this is a great track, a great OST and an amazing game.
I have to agree with you strangely enough, Alundra had this weird weird feeling that the game was much better. That or because that the storyline of Alundra was more active and all... or something Anyway, fanboys will hit me for this, but I think Alundra is better than Zelda. (Though Alundra 2 sucked very very much)
One of my favorite tracks from the game. Was always curious to see what'd be like if the "outside" tracks of Alundra and Final Fantasy VII had switched places, or even Ocarina of Time's. This one seems to provide a unique medium between those two. Great great add, SupraDarky.
I noticed in a recent EGM magazine that they mentioned Alundra as "Best classic game of the month" or something. I'm gonna start looking around eBay/stores for it :)
