I forgot how good the earlier Halo soundtracks were. I haven't played a Halo game since the 2nd. This reminds me of good times though.
Nice choice. I typically play through Halo 1 campaign once a year or so. The AI makes the battles so much fun. Hoping the series returns to a high standard but the way the Master Chief Collection was handled makes me rather nervous, especially the technical side. Though this likely falls on Microsoft for forcing the collection out even though it was full of issues.

This part of the game was easily my favorite section in the entire franchise, it just set the tone so beautifully for what was going on
People remember Halo 1 wayyy too fondly. Yeah it was good at the time of release, but it's aged pretty bad. If anything the MCC has taught me is that the first game is the worst of the series. Repetitive levels, boring weapons/vehicles and the story is average at best.
I definitely agree on the repetitive levels. I mean, there's one level that's literally the same thing for over and hour, and you'll be begging for it to end already. I played the game for the first time last year, but I think it's actually aged well. You can approach the AI from a variety for situations, the weapons are fun to use, and some of the more open levels are fun to explore and fight on.
Although some of the levels are repetitive, it really has aged well actually. If your talking about the graphics, they look decent today. Everything else is solid though, controls, gameplay, AI, story, weapons, setting, design, voice acting, and just the overall feel are still pretty good. I just replayed it about a month ago and no I'm not nostalgia blind my first Halo was Halo 2.

Not really what I'd expect to hear from a halo game. My favorites in the series are 3 and reach. 4 wasn't bad but it felt weird almost.
I don't know if i am the only person that thinks this, but i honestly think this franchise along with Call of Duty are overhyped. I'd like to know what people think of this series in general. I'm probably not going to play a game from this series, but i thought it would be interesting to hear other people's thoughts on it.
I have to agree they're both overhyped, but I do enjoy COD Multiplayer. I've only played Halo 1 and 2, and while I thought they were decent shooters, I just didn't really get into the story and characters. A lot of people rave about how awesome Master Chief is, but he always strikes me as the most generic "Space Marine" you could get, from how he acts to his design. And the "fanboys" are awful(at least the ones I've personally known)...but hey, everyone isn't going to connect with the same games. I love Shenmue, but there's no doubt lots of people who can't stand it. : )
They are a bit overhyped I agree especially Call of duty but that's because they have such a huge fanbase that you'll hear about them even in the most random of locations. I really like Halo though not as the multiplayer but as the Single Player Campaign. It's very unique and challenging and there aren't that many good Sci-fi shooters that do so well in terms of story telling. You said you'd probably never play a Halo game and that's why you have that opinion of yours. My favorite game is 3 because i had the most fun playing 4 player co-op on Legendary.
Not a COD fan, but I did enjoy the first 3 Halo games quite a bit. Afterwards the only Halo game I liked was Reach, the franchise has gone downhill IMO, in fact it almost feels too much like COD if that makes any sense
I've only played the first two on the PC, but I liked them. If you're curious about trying Halo out, I'd get the first one on PC and run through the story mode. If you like that, 2's story mode is fun too. I can't speak for the multiplayer or any games after 2, but I can tell you that 1's multiplayer servers are still up (but probably full of mod games).
I was an insanely huge halo fan, it was a very big part of my childhood. If you didn't have an Xbox or a copy of the game AT THE TIME (halo 1, 2 or 3), you simply can't judge if the game is overrated or not. All 3 were ahead of their time (the most innovative being 1 & 2, but halo 3 had forge and theatre mode unseen in console multiplayers). When I go back and play halo now, I get bored very quickly, mostly because so many games have implemented what halo has done. So halo changing video games with each release is what made the franchise stand out for me. Tully 10/10
Going to chime in on this and say that I think the original Halo trilogy are three of the best games ever made. Very solid gameplay combined with a really cool setting, and excellent music. You could argue that it has cheesy presentation, but I think it was intentionally so, and I think they did a really great job with it (Halo 3 had some pretty bad lines). Series is dead to me since 343 took over though.
One thing to remember is that Halo set the standard on dual stick FPS controls for consoles. Aside from that though the game was fun and so was the multiplayer. The AI of the enemies is still great today (perhaps only FEAR has better AI enemies). The two gun system was also new (not saying it was the first game to use it as I'm not sure but it popularized it) and added a little strategy to how you were going to play. Vehicles to traverse large open areas. Single player co-op. An interesting alien setting and wonderful ending. The other entries would add their own important pieces to the franchise (Halo 2 defined Xbox Live and made matchmaking a thing, Halo 3 allowed for lots of customization in the multiplayer like never before). The single player campaigns for 1, 3, and ODST are top notch to me. 2 and Reach falling a bit behind though still worth a play through. The story to me never really meant much to me post Halo 2 though apparently it makes more sense if you've read books though I find that to not be a good execution for us who only care to play the games. So really aside from storytelling the Bungie developed Halo games were great and I argue that they still hold up today in terms of actual gameplay.
Single player is nothing special. Multiplayer in Halo 2 & 3 was amazing. Few multiplayer FPS games, even today, can compare IMO.
Halo + COD4(MW) revolutionized the genre, but fell from grace after.

halo 2 is the only good halo game halo 1 and 3 are alright but everything after 3 is terrible (reach is average in gameplay)
i remember this very clearly from the truth and reconciliation level, pretty relaxing, but then turn creepy later on as this plays on two betrayals when you traverse next to covenant defense stations holding against the flood hordes
the sentinels was my favourite map and perfect part

I haven't played a Halo game in a long while, but I do enjoy this series from what I've played. The first game especially. The soundtrack's great, with this one being particularly memorable and moody. I'm still not too sure about the series since 343 took over, but I guess we'll see with Halo 5.
well 343 did produce some awesome songs in halo 4, that's something people seem to agree in
