you're a better man than me, i accidentally went through to the chaos path. hopefully one day I can replay it and go neutral but my backlog wont allow that right now lol
this game is so hard ._. all of my friends I managed to get to try it gave up very shortly into the game. but damn was it worth it getting through the entire thing. very good soundtrack that didn't get repetitive. I just realized I have yet to play through any of the other routes... that thought scares me lol
+Afroctopus It isn't hard...actually. Well ok, it is, if you haven't played other parts of the series or aren't familiar with the DDS fighting system and/or the strengths/weaknesses of the enemies. Many of them are repetitive through the series.
The game is great. Def challenging. Story is great and the characters are interesting. Def play it
The fact that I haven't played SMTIV yet shows how much more free time I need to keep up with all the releases I'm interested in. For those who did play this game, how is it? Is it as challenging as Nocturne? The soundtrack is absolutely awesome, even without Meguro. I find this theme very addictive: intimidating and powerful, but at the same time backed by a calming melody. Feels like the world's destiny is about to be decided.
Right in the hole friend.Yes,it's very challenging.The story 'n soundtrack are nice as always,nice sprites and nice nice,,,,,.The real only bad thing's tokyo map....but you have the amazing overworld soundtrack,so you won't die of rage :p
It's really not all that hard except for the beginning up till the Minotaur boss. Then again my main character focused on Magic. So I believe that is a much easier path to go on than say physical in SMT IV. I did physical in Nocturne, and well I got pretty far in it and then just stopped playing, but Nocturne is much harder than SMT IV for a multitude of reasons. The soundtrack is good in SMT IV overall so that is something that always kept me playing it even when I wasn't enjoying it as much as I thought I would.
The story, atmosphere, and sense of adventure are fantastic. There are only two missteps gameplay wise IMO 1: Removal of defensive stat. Makes everyone do huge damage and ultimately brings the game a bit closer to brute force then the smart and tactical party configurations of Nocturne 2: Being able to save anywhere in a dungeon. Might make some people feel less frustrated, but for me it takes a lot of the tension and excitement out of the dungeons. Still a must play though. The setting is VERY interesting and original, and it works well as a more dialogue and character development focused thematic counterpart to the lonely and minimalist Nocturne.

Yeah I think I would have gotten more out of the game if I didn't go magic because it would have made demons a little more important to me. I still tried to get a lot of magical demons like usual and stormed the game pretty well since there is no defense stat and the fact that you can transfer any skill to any demon, it does devalue them somewhat and some of the "demons" like the Hooligan heh I just didn't find all that interesting to ever use. Good game, I just thought it'd be better. Even if Soul Hackers did wear on me later on, I was happy to finally play that one on the 3DS (as opposed to just on my Saturn in Japanese) I thought it could have been a little better too, but I felt in the end I enjoyed it more.
Well, i haven't played Nocturne, but SMT4 has a few very challenging parts where you either need a very powerful combination of demons or some grinding When i had to kill Lucifer, for example, i had to capture/ fuse a lot of demons because the game had gotten a bit easy before getting to his palace and i was too lazy to improve my party
I'm a huge Persona fan. This was my first SMT game and I want to say I absolutely loved it. I accidentally wound up with the "law" ending though...oops. I want to replay it and go neutral but my backlog is ridiculous
@***** I'm not really big on self imposed challenge, I prefer to use whatever is within the games ruleset. Besides, I'm not sure the game is really balanced around that kind of playstyle. I suppose I could give it a try though...
