Have this playing on a playlist. Deep down, I knew it was Jak & Daxter, but I was really convinced that it was something from a DK Country game at first.

The amazing thing about this game's soundtrack was that it made you feel a combination of mystery, intrigue, danger, and excitement, all at the same time. It suited the first game perfectly, because it was a silly, yet menacing adventure about exploring everything.
no matter what this game always brings so much fun wether i played it my first time or now this game is has just an outstanding vibe to it! I always get torn up between this and the third game in the series for which is my favorite.

Jak & Daxter was a pretty alright game. However, I can not STAND Jak II. I played the PS3 version and it was one of the most unpleasant gaming experiences I've ever had.
I'm glad I can have someone agree with me. The checkpoint system in Jak 2 was just horrible. You die and you start from the beginning and health was scarce so it wasn't like you could heal right away. When I first played Jak 1, I loved platforming and collecting everything but Jak 2 just made everything a chore. I beat it but I just don't wanna play Jak 3 because of 2.
@CrazyMan03 I didn't finish Jak 2. I got to the final boss and even tried to beat him, but it was so frustrating I gave up and I just don't care enough to try to finish it. I'll probably play Jak 3, just to see if its any better then Jak 2, but my hopes aren't high.
@EricKirby1 @CrazyMan03 By your logic, dark souls, mega man and castlevania are horrible awful and pathetic games bad=\= hard And the games aren't even hard.
@Lustranas Hoghedge I'm not saying hard is bad, far from it. Mega Man is one of my favourite game series, but games like Mega Man and Castlevania did hard well. Jak 2 gets to the point where it becomes completely unforgiving. You're more then half way through a level and if you die, you get sent back to the beginning. That's bullshit. Then having to play the same level over and over again, that's not being hard. That's being boring and tedious. Also you get swarmed by hordes of enemies but they attack you faster then you can take them out. That's bullshit. Jak 2 is unpleasant. Naughty Dog at their worst. I would gladly play Mega Man 2 on difficult then play Jak 2, at least then I would be having fun.

I don't like Jak II neither. Jak & Daxter was all about platforming, but Jak II turned it into machinegunning. Also, I find Jak II to be a boring game, where you spend half of the time driving a car from mission to mission (which again removes a lot of platforming!). So, I appreciate their effort on providing something new, but I just think they didn't come with the right product. Jack III was a better execution of the same idea imho.
Next we'll be seeing a song from a Sly game. Then the trio will be together.
Absolutely loved the Jak & Daxter series, although it was weird to go from the first game to the second game, with such a darker tone and different gameplay style. I still love the series, but it is the least favorite of the trio on PS2 (Ratchet > Sly Cooper > Jak).

I've never even played the Ratchet & Clank games (aside from Tools of Destruction), but I'm willing to bet that they are still better than the Jak & Daxter games. At least they kept a consistent tone, rather than deciding to put the hero in a sci-fi future with guns and sh*t, which is basically the exact opposite of what this first game was even about.
This game was childhood! I loved playing this game, along with Ratchet and Clank. I do have to say, Jak 2 and 3 were very different compared to the first one. They were still fun to play nevertheless! Oh how I need to find this game and play through it again soon. That'll definitely bring up memories!
I remember endless debates about which game was better: this or Ratchet & Clank. The debate later transformed into which series was better. I was a much bigger fan of R&C myself, but there's no deying Jak was also a solid series (though I've heard bad things about Jak 3). Funnily enough, the only entry I actually finished is Daxter for the PSP. I always thought this theme could fit right in the Star Fox Adventures soundtrack.
I agree that this can fit in Star Fox Adventure soundtrack. However, this was the only series from a big developer that I owned for my PS2 before I got Tekken Tag Tournament and MGS 3. I really loved this series. J&D 3 was ok, it's not my least favorite game in the series (that honor belongs to 4 which really strayed away from the series' roots). 2 will always be my favorite in the series with its darker atmosphere and music too. I should look to replay these titles again as they were really a lot of fun to play.

@bosskopo15 oh well ok. yeah that game was a bit of a disappointment.
The first jak and daxter is nothing but a giant fetch quest for most of the game. Go back and play them both. It hasn't aged nearly as well as R&C has.
@bulbinking IMO I would have to say that Jak has aged slightly better than Ratchet simply for its slick controls and graphics. Ratchet's controls took a while to really get it right but Jak was spot on from the start. I love Ratchet and Clank too, it's just that Jak is just more fun to me.
@bulbinking can people seriously stop comparing R&C and J&D. they're both great series and comparing them is like comparing zelda and mario, it all comes down to a matter of opinion.
@AMR15x I'd say that the better metaphor would be like comparing Metroid and Zelda, but your point stands.
You should definitely consider giving the first one a chance. I wish they had stayed with that one's tone instead of going the way they did with Jak 2.
Interesting you should say that. I think I only played Jak 3, and it put me off the whole series. In my defense, I'd wanted to play the original since I saw the trailer for it on the PS2 demo disk, sadly never got a chance...
@Matrilwood Please consider it! You can get it on the PS store. The story and tone of the two games are completely different. The gameplay is somewhat similar in that the first one is a platformer, but it doesn't have the shooter aspect the sequels do.
#1 and PSP Daxter were the best entries. 2 & 3 were meh, (tried too hard to be GTA), and the other PSP Game was ok.
Ratchet and Clank > Jak and Daxter RaC 2 < Jak 2 RaC 3 = Jak 3 Gladiator > Jak X

JaD: TPL is definitely the best in the series IMO. I think of it as a perfect mix of Naughty Dog's Crash games and Super Mario 64. Jak 2 and 3 are great games too, especially 2, but just didn't do it for me due its darker atmosphere. The RaC games are really great too, but the only one that I was compelled to beat was 3, because my first game copy was scratched to hell and the second one wasn't too captivating for me. So, I must say: JaD series.
@SupraDarky I just recently played R&C 1 and J&D 1 for the first time. I can see how the seamless world of Jak and Daxter was appealing at the time but R&C stands the test of time much better. J&D is just a 3D-platformer that is so much worse in every aspect compared to a game like Banjo-Kazooie. The jokes are pretty bland, so are the characters. It seems to me like the game tried to be "cool", something that Sonic is suffering from as well. The camera, the levels, the missions (way too many "collect X orbs"-missions) - and the game just did not have too many ideas. One or two levels were above average, the rest of the game is forgettable imo. R&C however is a whole different thing - it really is a great game of it's own, combining elements of different genres and is still feeling fresh today. And from what I heard about the other entries of the game series, R&C has been getting better and better, while J&D went the opposite way.
+SupraDarky I like Jak and Daxter series better than Ratchet and Clank. Ratchet and Clank games have great gunplay mechanics and (sometimes) great plots, but Jak and Daxter games have great gunplay (since Jak II), great platforming, great plots, great music, great missions and better replay value. Ratchet and Clank is more action-adventure with some shooting elements, rather than a platformer, and if you like to shoot and smash things, which in one way is fun, but in other way - tedious and monotonous, so, this game for you. Not to mention, I don't understand people who tell that J&D games are worse than Banjo-Kazooie games (which really badly aged). You can disagree with me, but I, as a critic, think, that at least the first J&D and Jak 3 are much more playable and meaningful than all Banjo-Kazooie and Ratchet and Clank games.
