This was my game. My friend and I would spend weeks over the summer playing it. Because of that special chip it still doesn't emulate properly.
For some reason it reminds me of Spyro. Got me why, though.

Didn't have the snes but the first racing game I would have played (maybe) is Micro Machines for the Sega Mega Drive. Always loved the level design but can't remember the music at all. Going to go listen to some of it now and I bet I get the same feeling you get from this
Only racing game I played on the SNES was Rock n' Roll Racing. It had a pretty awesome rendition of Highway Star.

@xSayPleasex Oh yeah, guess I did. Didn't own it though, and mostly played battle mode at a friend's house.
I rented this game once and wasn't too impressed by it. I thought the soundtrack was mostly forgettable, but listening to it almost 20 years later, I immediately remembered this catchy theme. It's interesting to note that this is the only SNES game that used the most advanced DSP chip (DSP-4). From Wikipedia : "Due to the capabilities of the new chip DSP-4 used for this game, it was the first game in the series that was possible to split the track in two different directions with different lengths, sometimes intentionally making one route much faster than the other.".
