as much as I want to enjoy this game, I cannot because the angry video game nerd is the protagonist and I hate him beyond what normal mortal emotions can normally contain. thankfully, the music is good and i can listen to it without having to see him, or anything that even remotely resembles him
Just out of curiosity, do you hate the AVGN as a character or James Rolfe, as well?
@DracXBelmont Very good question. A lot of people blur that line with many comedians -cough- Colbert -cough- If we're talking about the AVGN, then yeah, I could see why people would be rubbed the wrong way. But, James is honestly a pretty cool guy. Of course, this is *my* opinion, just to make it clear. Knowing the Internet, people'll use this comment to blast me and talk down to me, so just covering my bases.
@DracXBelmont avgn as a character.. As a person, I'm sure he's fine and the quality of the work he does is good. I just don't see the appeal of avgn. He's obnoxious, annoying, and not funny. I assume he's trying to use humor anyway...
@gorillify I can understand hating AVGN as a character, and your reasons are valid - and I think that's what the Nerd is supposed to be, you know? You should look up the Making of an AVGN episode on his main Cinnemassacre account, it's some really interesting stuff. Might not make you like the AVGN but at the very least you'll appreciate the work that goes into it.
@DracXBelmont his work is respectable. this i will not argue. his popularity just amazes me. but then again, i never understood why seinfeld was so popular either

Even though you would think that the song would be Castlevania styled (given the name of the song,) this is distinctly Sunsoft. The bass samples, triangle drums, and and nice pluck lead w/echo and an occasional running arp (which would be in place of that echo, but this doesn't seem to be emulating 2a03 only. There sounds like 2 extra pulses, so the first thing that comes to mind would be MMC5, even though Sunsoft only used one expansion soundchip, the 5B, of which they only used the 50% squares.) Oh, sorry, did I go off on a little tangent there? I tend to do that when ever I hear and/or see something styled after something NES/Famicom, and that's very apparent in both the song and image. Nitpicks aside, I like it! If I don't forget/quit after frustration, I might just cover this.
Don't worry. I understand. Sunsoft's been known for that "pring" sound.
Oh, and also the note progression reminds me heavily of the Gimmick! OSV.

This would be very fitting in a Castlevania game especially made for NES/Gameboy era.
IMO it's sorta too upbeat for Castlevania actually. Reminds me WAY more of Megaman games ;)

@Kookosbanaani94 It's just a really poorly designed platformer. It felt like playing a shitty Mario World romhack, where the level designer just put instant-death traps everywhere. It's not even done in the fun sense where the deaths are funny, it's just really dull.

@moccamonster It's hardcore, like it was back then in the NES days, like Mega Man 1 just harder :)
@Evilriku13 Actually, the Megaman series had thought out level design(aside from 2). This game doesn't. Saying it's hardcore or retro is not an excuse for horrendous and uninteresting level-design.

It's not a surprise to know there's a Castlevania inspired stage accompanied by a fitting theme in this game, James Rolfe being such a fan of the series (and the popular AVGN episode featuring Castlevania 2). This is one of many indie games on Steam I want to eventually play, this one mainly because I'm curious to see the different stages and the humorous features that's been thrown in.
The Atari Porn theme music (I can't remember how it's called) is also very good! You should check it out!
