I think we still have some amazing soundtracks or at least some good songs (skyrim, spiral knights etc.) but there's so many mediocre soundtracks in AAA titles nowadays. It's kinda sad...
Kingdom Hearts changed my life, and I love Yoko Shimomura so much! Can't wait to play Kingdom Hearts III which will be the best game ever i believe. The Kingdom Hearts games endings are so beautiful. Thank you for everything Square and Yoko-san. I'll be complete once I finished Kingdom Hearts III. I am really happy to live in this era in which I can live my passion for videogames.
I know the feeling. By the time Kingdom Hearts III comes out, KHII will have been out for about 12 years... That's pretty crazy! High hopes for this game, and I bet we'll see something at the next E3!

An excellent theme! This will always remain in my memory as one of the most bittersweet moments of my life, when I beat this game for the first time, and was upset that it was over. In fact, listening to this now makes me want to play Kingdom Hearts again. I cannot wait for Kingdom Hearts III either, but I do hope the story won't get in the way of the game's pacing, nor would it be too pretentious.

I love this credits theme. I have only talked about this with one person, but does anyone think that video game music has taken a turn for the worse after the 6th generation of consoles (PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube)? Let me know because I'm interested to see what people think of it.
No. Some franchises have shifted music style though. Like Sonic and Mario changing to orchestral music. (though not all of the time) Obviously, there will always be games with sub-par music, but I feel a lot of good VGM has been brought to us more recently. The alternate, shorter answer is Super Mario Galaxy. Boom. But that's just one example.
Yes. I'd argue that the SNES era was the golden age, then PS1/N64 was also fantastic, then GC/PS2 era was great as well. Seventh gen has not been up to par to any of these. That's not to say it hasn't produced some absolutely brilliant OSTs, namely Nier and SMG 1, which to me are both 10/10, but I don't think that the average OST is as good as it was in previous gens.
No. I just think the nostalgia makes everything sound better, though there're some exceptions (just like everything does). I do love chrono trigger, donkey kong, chrono cross, top gear, super mario rpg and lots of old gen music, but that doesn't mean today's gen musics isn't on par with those. We have child of light's beautiful osts, dark souls, and lots more. Also, I do think nowadays we have a wider range os genres, though I do remember lots of beautiful music from the old gen, I just remember a few epics from that time, when now I can think of a vast list. That's just my opinion though, feel free to disagree =]

I'd say that games have become more cinematic over the years and as a result, have more cinematic music. Doesn't mean it's bad really, just that that's what popular now so that's what style of music many game composers go with.
@NATE And cinematic music is not composed like classic gaming pieces, which rely on catchy melodies to stand out. On its own, a cinematic piece is nothing, as it is too closely tied to the cinematic it belongs to. Not that that's a bad thing, but it means that they just don't have the same catchy melodies that made us all love video game music.
Very nice credits music performed by the New Japan Philharmonic. Hopefully we get more news concerning Kingdom Hearts III during the next E3, the teaser certainly looked nice! Hopefully the story isn't as convoluted this time around, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Come on, by now would you really like a kingdom hearts with a simple story?
@daniel cardoso Of course I would, it's why the first game is my favorite. But the only hope of a simple story in a KH game by now is to see the first game in the next saga.
@Hawelo92 That was half of my point,with all the back story it's not possible to make a simple plot,but if you do not try to understand all the backstory and don't care Kingdom hearts 358/2 days has a pretty simple story. I for one enjoy complex mythos and storylines it makes it interesting to spend time researching and exploring the world.
@daniel cardoso I enjoy complex stories too, but complex isn't the same thing as convoluted. I think Harry Potter for example had a pretty good complex plot.
@daniel cardoso I agree with Yessir432, I think you're mistaking the word complex for convoluted. tbh, the only thing I like about the KH series is the fun gameplay and literally nothing else.
@Mr. Fuzzums i'm not.If you have a complex lore and keep adding to it obviously becomes convoluted and not everyone likes that,but if it still makes sense and things can be explained, it can still be enjoyed by those who like to take their time.
@daniel cardoso My problem with KH, as much as I enjoy the series, is that SE keep making it up as they go along. You thought Ansem was a big villain? He's nothing compared to XEMNAS! You thought Xemnas was a big villain? He's nothing compared to Master Xehanort!! You thought Master Xehanort was a big villain? Just wait till we introduce the next yellow-eyed brown-skinned man! The same thing applies to how they handle people who look like Sora etc. etc.
@Yessir432 what did you expect from Japanese developers?Every story heavy game series is like that.
@daniel cardoso Japanese developers make game that range from not enough story (Zelda, Pokemon), to just the right amount (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus), to overly convoluted like Kingdom Hearts. So you can't just say it should be expected from Japan.
