Gods Existed... However, it was not what people had wished for..... I love the Sinistral trilogy. Ruins of lore was ok, wasn’t a fan but I still appreciate it.

After all these years, all the remakes of this track, this is still the best one. The more complicated and orchestral this track becomes, the more I feel it gets taken away from what it is supposed to represent. Humanity's final, desperate hope. A battle to decide the fate of their world, resting on the shoulders of these four hardened warriors. It's a track that tells a complete story. It cannot be improved upon. It was perfect in 1993, it is perfect now.
Fun fact, this was almost a Genesis game. :)

The main character was 16 in this game, if I remember right.
Not according to the box art, but then again the game was made in Japan, where adults are worthless and kids are the only beings on Earth with the power to save the world. Not those who are older, and more experienced in every conceivable way. Which I'm not just saying as an adult. That bugged the hell out of me even when I was younger.
to appeal western audiences
The U.S. box is leagues better than the boring Japanese box art, which has the characters in a childish chibi art style similar to the in-game graphics, but with zero effort put into the design. And the U.S. art is still anime style, so it's a win in both appeal and design.

89% of this game takes place in our imagination. It is depressing because in L2 there seems to be an extra door. I mean seeing all those characters on screen, with all the moments. I still can not believe this game. Why didn't they make anymore. Oh I know? because the final Lufia 3 game was on GBC and only a handfull of people got to enjoy it. The Lufia 4 game bombed so hard. I mean seriously thank gosh the GBC had so much to offer but the second game was like wow.

@Anthony Murano All the more reason why I'm happy that I played the second game first. The Fortress of Doom totally spoils the ending of Rise of the Sinistrals in the first five minutes. The trade-off being that it left me very disappointed when I finally did play Lufia 1, to the point where I initially hated the game, although I've since grown to like it. Not because I had unreasonably high expectations (it was made earlier, so naturally I expected it to not be as good), but because it didn't deliver in the ways I expected. Most notably, the puzzles. I went into Lufia 1 assuming those were a staple of the series, only to find the first game's dungeons to be generically dull and empty; the most bare-bones dungeons can be. Nor did it have things like capsule monsters, weapon/armor skills, or anything from Lufia 2 that's roots I expected to see in the first game.

When I rented this game as a kid I thought it was broken because I kept starting out with a fully equiped party. I must have reset it 4 or 5 times before I just went ahead and played through it and realized what was up
+gutbolt lol!! Yeah I thought it was weird too but it made sense and It was a pretty cool way to explain events.
+gutbolt It was also a nice way to set up a kind of tutorial, in the very last dungeon with endgame gear, magic and enemies. At least it wasn't that bad if you rented it, right from the start, you knew what kind of game it would have been.

SO HAPPY I wasn't the only one haha. I reset once and when I got the same result the second time, just continued on and realized "oh... that was SUPPOSED to happen!" Yeas, it says "battle in the opening story" on the box... but my rental store didn't have the box! When I rented it the first time, it was in a generic plastic case - someone else had destroyed the box so I had no idea "battle in the opening story" was an advertised feature LOL

The DS remake was sooo bad. I'm glad I got to play the original Lufia on the SNES. It was so awesome starting with Maxim and his pals, right before the 'final battle' Great way to make an impact on an RPG. Fortress of Doom and the Sinistrial Battle are one of the BEST RPG themes imo.
I actually liked the DS version. I was glad they made it because the original SNES Lufia II is like $70, which is ridiculous!!
@***** And? It's still HORRIBLE. WAY too short, cuts out a lot of the story elements and has that stupid modern gaming design flaw of having to make every character look like it came from the FF7 universe. Estopolis II should have been more medieval like the original, not some half assed medieval yet futuristic crap. Also, making Guy a dumbass with a sword is DEFINITELY not faithful to the original.

@gamergeek Yup, that's exactly right. Lufia II is the first game in the series.
@Anthony Murano: It was a terrible remake for many Lufia fans. Natsume dropped the ball on it majorly with all the changes made, and it bombed badly. It's fine if you like it, but the collective longtime fans have voiced their disappointment with it. It was a poor remake for many reasons and watered down too much of the original story while also rewriting quite a few of the characters' personalities (and not necessarily for the better).

Xenogears surpassed this game by a mile. You can admit that . But that being said SNES was very limited by the system at the time.

On the SNES era, it was a clock battery that had the cartridges, and with this featured you could save your progress on the game.
This was the very first Nintendo game song I got stuck in my head when I was a kid. Never tried the game but always watched my dad play - he was a huge fan of Nintendo games.

A "Battery Back-up System" is the internal battery that allows you to save games on an SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, GameGear, SEGA, etc Cartridge. It keeps and maintains all the save files, highscores etc. if it dies however, you will lose all your save files and high scores, and will be unable to save until you replace the battery.

You obviously haven't played "Lufia: The Legend Returns" Im guessing? Because the storyline is set 100 years after the first Lufia game. But yeah Im not keen on the whole present day thing either. Theres just no place for Lufia in a modern setting...

If they ever made a new sequel to lufia, what would your thoughts be about it taking place in present time? The sinistrals are reborn and the fortress of doom rises from the ocean by a major city. And once again, a descendant of Maxim sets out to rid of them once and for all.
There's no reason for it to take place in the modern day. It works for Persona because Persona makes use of its setting to do things that are more natural with that setting. You can't just slap a modern setting on anything and expect it to stick. It's two-dimensional thinking.
If you decide to play, and after you observe what the f. Siniltrals will do with Maxim ans Selan, i have no doubt that, same as me, you will claim revenge and you will not rest until you defeat that horrible Sinistrals. I also agree with some poeple here that, this being so good, the Lufia II rises the absolutely perfection (awesome RPG).

I did the same with FF3 and Chrono Trigger...lol sold them for a bit more than $10 but there was a brief time when those games were over $100. Now that the economy is garbage, they're WAY cheaper...

@JenovaMember Hehe, I still have to and yeah, but that isn't a thing you can't specify on Lufia, almost AL old RPG's had this random encounter system. Lufia II was even going new ways there, as one of very few games of it's time.
This is just epic. I think it's the most memorable tune of that generation. As much as I love my FF6, FF4, and Chrono Trigger midis this is the tune I'll catch myself humming in the shower, it is just so amazing :)

@JohnBoy013 I'm at the final boss for the remake (its a remake of Estopolis 2 with Maxim). It's alright, but its way too short compared to the original. Selena and Maxim are married like 6 hours into the game and I'm at the floating island (last dungeon) in 15 hours.

Lufia 1 & 2 are among my absolut favorite RPGs. The SNES has some really amazing RPGs.

It's a theory, stated in caps ;) I'd actually just base it off them being super beings as well like the mermaid princess said in Lufia II, but that just seemed like a more logical theory than Arty effecting Guy's lifeline in any way.

Yah...they are all super beings afterall. Good or Evil is irrelavent to that fact and only human made perceptions, much like Daos was trying to explain to Maxim in Lufia 2. Erim is the only super being that realized this fully unfortunately, oh and maybe Sir Arek. I'd assume Maxim woulda even lived longer than Selan & Guy since he was the 'chosen one'. They were all about 20's..Lufia's generation was younger (16-17) making them like 110-120.
The Sinistrals also live a very long time..Erim apparently lives forever lol.
In other words in an RPG way "they aren't normal humans".
Guy is one of the chosen ones, they are influenced by Sinistrals energy which is basically Super Beings. If Maxim and Selan didn't die they woulda been alive too.

I was saying IF Maxim & Selan lived..your theory on Arty's life span effecting Guy makes no sense..it's more understandable of a THEORY that defeating the sinistrals with part of his energy made him live longer.
The consept of 'Jeros' wasn't created till the Lufia II but it's obvious the main hero isn't Jeros either since it's 99 years in the future, thus it's likely Jeros' son..how else would he be a decadant of Maxim? I don't think it was intended to be overly complicated since we never hear of the females besides Selan in the bloodline (Maxim nor heros mom). Also Bloodlines don't get 'stronger' as it gets passed down, they become weaker. It's the same consept as taking pieces from a pie.
Yah but because IMO Lufia II kills Lufia - playing Lufia II first makes you appreciate Lufia even though LufiaII is the superior game. Plus if you play Lufia I first there's no surprises for the better game (well when it comes to Sinistrals..still surprises but yanno). Erim doesn't become predictable till the 3rd one so either way there are surprises..I see your point about the prologue too but when you play II THEN I it's like your continuing your adventure..very badass.
I disagree. I think it's cooler to play Lufia 1 first just so you know how amazingly powerful Maxim was at the end of Lufia 2. I like how Maxim fought all these really tough ass enemies at the beggining and then you fight even harder ones when you get to where he is. SO COOL
It also kinda makes an odd conflict that Guy is still alive fuckin 99 years later yet you meet him as Jeros's son likely which would be Maxim's grandson. That part makes no sense lol unless if Maxim and Selan didn't die they woulda been alive just as long too cuz of their energy...still kinda weird. Artea makes sense, but not Guy.
And that is because Lufia II was such a better game than Lufia...if it wasn't than I wouldn't have had such a great time playing Lufia II first then Lufia I. But playing II first makes you appreciate I AND II all the better...call me lucky I guess then :P
Actually I played Lufia II first then Lufia and sure glad I did, it made the experience 100x better IMO. That's what a good prequel does.
The developers made Lufia 2 after everyone played the first one. They did a great job with it as far as making it seem like you're experiencing it for the first time as you play. Knowing what's going to happen (or at least part of what's going to happen, as the game continues after the part shown in Lufia 1 ends) does not ruin the experience at all. The added blast of nostalgia starting when the party enters Doom Island really helps.
They really should remake this game! I love how Maxim is really strong in the beggining fighting these tough enemies who he wastes and then it takes the whole game for you to get that strong too. What an EPIC game with EPIC music!
Yah me too, in Lufia II it sounds too watered down with too many beats added in but everything else music wise in Lufia II was brilliant compared to Lufia, especially the Sinistral Battle Music.

Wow another coincidence. I just started uploading lufia videos o.o and yeah to JZA1981 and any other confused players, when you begin a new game the intro begins and you play as Maxim, Selan, etc. in their own final battle.
