I have a Wii and a 3DS - Which is by your definition the best Mario RPG game to buy? I really want to get into the mario rpg - but i dont know where to start...

I liked this game a lot, I put it above Super Paper Mario at least. People complain about the lack of personality/partners, but I find the game to be brimming with interesting levels and writing.
I wouldn't say bad, but very disappointing.
SD, have you heard of Tearaway? Its a very unique expirience and I wont be able to forget it so easily. If you get a vita, make sure to try that out. This may sound a bit off but it may be one of my favorite games. Please note that this may be just hype. Its just that... there really isnt anything quite like it and it reminded me why I love gaming so much. I would say stories if you asked me a while ago but my opinion have changed. Gaming is a medium that has the potential to do so many different things from giving a life lesson to letting you have fun shooting stuff with friends. Its something really hard to describe but this game does a very good job of it. So, this game was very fun and told me a wonderful story that made quite a few of my days. I think that should be enough to me one of my favs.
Ughhh I forgot to make my point! I was going to say the soundtrack was awesome. You have to listen "Gibbet Hill".

Yeah,I'm not a fan of this game. If you're going to try something different,you should go all the way,like Super Paper Mario. I found this to be just a watered down version of the first two games with a lot less personality (if you love Toads,this is the game for you though) I wonder if they made it simpler just because it's a handheld game. Which makes me even more pissed that they didn't make this for the Wii U,because they launched Mario & Luigi 4 ALSO for the 3DS the very next year. I don't think it's a bad game per se, it's just a lot of wasted potential for me. The soundtrack IS pretty good,though.
+GreatSpaceToaster Super Paper Mario had interesting ideas, but i preferred the combat system of Thousand Year door, it wasnt even close, plus the music was better. Still want to play this game.

Awesome game, with some equally awesome music. I will never truly understand the overblown hate for it.
This track is definitely in my top 5, it's just bloody amazing. And good to listen while I murder Shy Guys trying to get the achievements.

This is my absolute favorite music from this game. It's so HAPPY! The game itself had a few flaws, but if Intelligent Systems gave it another shot one day maybe they can get it right. Like we can get the Mega Man 2 of Sticker Star.
This game truly has an amazing soundtrack, I'd even go so far as to say it might be the best in the series. However, the game overall is a total disappointment, not only as a Paper Mario game, but as a game in general. While the earlier PM games had an incredible charm and whimsy to everything from the characters to the story, this game is stripped bare to the absolute minimum. Boring locations, boring characters, boring enemies, boring (and unfair) boss battles. The battle system in and of itself is a flaw, but I despise the fact that they completely took away the point of battles in the first place. Now you fight battles in order to get coins so you can buy the exact same stickers as the ones you already had... yay?
I have never played this one, but I just love how it looks!
There's a lot of weird hate on this game. I mean it's not the usual Paper Mario so I can understand not preferring it, but the dislike I've seen for it's way more intense than should be the case. The music's pretty great though, for sure.
Well, It's kind of like the nuts and bolts of PM.
@TheMornal Yeah, that's pretty much it. It's not a bad game on its own (although it does have issues), but it feels to me like they squandered their chance to make the perfect sequel to TTYD, with the same kind of humor, great characters and awesome world. The soundtrack is indeed great though!

It seems like most people were disappointed by this game, but some people really loved it. As a big fan of the Paper Mario games, I'll have to try for myself, but I'm cautiously excited. The jazzy soundtrack is pretty awesome from what I've heard. Oh and merry christmas! I'll be giving and opening the presents tomorrow morning as we always do, exciting times!

I'm already loving the gameplay so far since it's my first 2D Zelda Game. The music is pretty good so far (you were so right about the Sanctuary remix in Hyrule, it's amazing). After posting this comment, I'm going back to play it.
Appropriate Christmas video game music. Like you, I absolutely loved the game due to the simple fact that it does not hold your hand. It felt like an old-school adventure game when it came to using the right sticker at the right time. It had some unique elements for an RPG and it's arguably the best in the series gameplay-wise, yet unfortunately falls short due to its simplistic premise and storytelling. The soundtrack is surprisingly good though. Really good. I really dislike the OST of the Paper Mario series because nothing stands out, but Sticker Star by far is absolutely awesome. Lots of jazzy tunes and very memorable ones like this one here. My favorite is the prelude acoustic guitar track that plays before the Squid boss battle.
I love the game for the music and really awesome backgrounds, but hate the game for the useless fighting system with no rewards. I would still recommend this game because the visuals and music make you forget about the stupid RPG system it has. (Also, Merry Christmas!)

Yes, and great theme is it for be the first Paper Mario handheld :P I would like an great new title for the franchise or can be a DLC's(Free or not Free like the Pikmin ones) Greetings from Perú :D
I really enjoyed it. Yeah it's not the same level as RPG as the first two. But after Super Paper Mario. Clearly that team wanted to try different things. And I think that if you pay attention to Sticker Star as you play through it, there's so many details that show the developers just had a lot of fun making it. With that feeling it was impossible for me to not enjoy it as well.
It was alright. It was good enough that I finished it. But the gameplay is not that deep, the bosses are either stupidly easy or (if you don't guess their weakness) will straight-up run you out of stickers, meaning that their challenge is not in your skills but whether or not you can guess their weakness. Also, the story and characters are not nearly as deep or interesting as they were in Super Paper Mario or the previous games. They did really "own" the paper motif with this one, but other than that I felt it fell short.
The only paper mario game I've played is super paper mario, and I disliked the game unfortunately, felt like it dragged on and on and there was too much dialogue for a mario game. But the soundtrack was fantastic!

@LordRoto @***** I played the first two Paper Mario games and absolutely enjoyed The Thousand Year Door. I still really enjoyed Sticker Star for what it is; unique and lack of hand holding gameplay wise. The plot and world map were lazy, but the Sticker mechanics and battle system were really fun to go through.
My cousin has played all of the Paper Mario games to completion (except this one, he's still finishing it). He says Sticker Star is fun, but it's probably his least favorite in the series. He says it's mostly because of the lack of companions that ruins it for him.
^ Like Dalton said. I've played all the Paper Mario's, and Sticker Star is probably my least favorite. It's a fun game in its own right, don't get me wrong. However, the drastic changes to the Paper Mario formula, most notable the omission of an EXP / level system as well as companions, were deal-breakers for me. I did still 100% it, but my least favorite nonetheless. If you own a 3DS I would suggest borrowing it from a friend to maximize the value from the cart.
As much as it pains me, I have to side with Dalton and Kinaldio on this one. The gameplay is interesting, the music is excellent, but it's such a drastic change from the formula that I can't recommend it over the other Paper Mario games. It's really disappointing to say this, because I truly enjoyed the game.
@ZeroKaiser that shouldn't pain you it's just your honest opinion after all. I think that people should be able to appreciate more games for what they are. All the time people just compare games, as if they need another experience to tether it to, something like a pedestal in which to hold up other experiences as if all experiences have to be the same thing. Sometimes it's an obvious stretch like, how is zelda compared to the last of us? Or, man I love pokemon red, i hate pokemon daimond or something silly. So I don't think you should be disappointed in saying that. I think you should own up to that you enjoyed it, and that you appreciate it for what it was, and at the same time, what it wasn't. Ya know? Just my 2 cents of course lol

I think you are silly, because you were "surprised to see so many people who actually enjoyed the game" and had varying opinions than yourself. I merely thought that something that closed minded was so humorous that I laughed. so I called you silly :3 Now, i'll reiterate, I don't care that you hated sticker star, everyone's opinions differ that's life of course. My comment to you was merely reflecting your surprise at other people who did.
lol was I surprised that you were surprised? Nope, It just made me chuckle and I didn't feel like typing much at the time so I made the silly comment. Glad we're friends though :D I think it's awesome to care about a series enough to be so passionate about it.
It's a wonderful game, but it's not a Paper Mario game. Easiest way of putting it.
