This is a great game, not those stupid Mario and Pokemon games that give us a one-dimensional mime with no depth at all in a story with no depth at all!

Back in 2008 the PS2 I was using to play this finally died right after I got to the final dungeon. Never did finish it. I'd had the game since Christmas 1998 too, but didn't play more than like 2/3rds of the 1st disc I think until 2008 when I started it over. Been so long I've forgotten a lot of the details/text of the story, would feel wrong just playing it from the end again. Think it was the disc drive that died, was making grinding noises and stuff, then I think it stopped being able to read the discs, iirc.

Such a good game, shame it was cut short on the second disk. music has always been one of my fav things about this game. brings back so many memories.

I remember when I saw this game in stores... I took a chance on it based solely on the cover art. I hadn't even noticed it was a Squaresoft game until after I bought it... It was one of the greatest games I've ever played in my life. The story (although at the time I couldn't fully comprehend it as a child), the gameplay, the strategy, the music, the characters... I definitely want to replay it again soon. I love Xenogears... I just wish their original plans came to fruition.

I'm playing Xenogears for the first time for about more than a month now, I'm almost at the end of the 1st disc and the story is getting REALLY WEIRD. It's like a mixture of '90s Japanese plots all together, it's nuts. The game is alright for the most part, but since I'm not too far from the end I'd like to ask this: is Xenosaga worth it? I've heard people disliking it, especially the sequels. It's like a trilogy, right? Is each chapter a different story or are they all connected?
Xenosaga 3 is a very good game. 1 has an interesting plot but really long battles (exacerbated by the fact that there is only one battle theme) and terrible pacing. 2 is largely not relevant to the story and has a very clunky combat system. I'd say just get 3, it recaps the plot of the first 2 games.
So I know that the second game is disappointing, but is there really nothing worth experiencing by playing the first game? Like some moments that are worth playing in person instead of just watching a recap of it.
@RagingNeku Most of the highlights of XS1 are cutscene related - it does have some awesome space battle and acid trip scenes, but you can just YouTube those. It does have a battle system more reminiscent of Xenogears (compared to XS3 which is more similar to FFX's menu-based system) with the added option to mount or dismount a mech any time, and field encounters instead of random battles, which is cool. And it has a couple pretty fun minigames. Get it if you really want, but if you hate it don't let that put you off XS3.

It is funny how for years I never noticed that Xenosagas 1 track "Opening" had a portion of it at 3:09 off of this song Awakening a nod to Omen even though I loved both games.and they have the same title. Not until I re listened to it just now did I catch it. damn the feels are strong. It just goes to show haw Yasunori Mitsuda really wanted to carry the theme of his first ost into the next generation of the series as a love for it and a homage for the fans. Shame they did not keep him for the remainder of the Xeno series. Even Joanne Hogg got to sing songs for both games.
Can I just take a moment to say that the picture placed before my eyes right now may be the most awesome goddamn thing I've ever seen?
This theme and what plays while you face the true final boss are a stroke of genius. Heck, this whole game is! Deepest story in a video game for sure!
I wish Nintendo could give Mario a satisfying death and give us games with stories and protagonists as deep as Xenogears's ones!

The soundtrack for this game is phenomenal and always gave me goosebumps, especially the choral parts in this song.

I really wish they would make an anime or something about this game. Or atleast re-do the game so the last parts flow better, and not end up being rushed. Awesome game to play though.

I like the first game the most; it throws you into some interesting situations. I would describe the series more, but I haven't played any of the games in years.
I like that there's a bit of Omen mixed in. Definitely one of my all time fave boss themes.
Is the Xenosaga series traditional RPGs? I know the music is fantastic seeing as a lot of people see this games soundtrack as one of Mitsuda's best works.
Yes, they are turn based, but the battle mechanics change from game to game.
I started playing this game for the first time ever recently, and while it's not a bad game, I don't see why everyone says it's one of the best games ever made? I'm currently about 2/3rds done with the game I guess, at the "Protect Nisan" chapter. Maybe I need to finish the game to realize that it is really good, or maybe it's nostalgia, which of course I don't have for this.
its harder to regard something as great when you didnt play it around the time it first came out, especially since in some instances what was new and fresh back then is the norm now.
That's how it is with me and Golden Sun, Super Mario RPG, and Secret of Mana; It probably just depends on your taste in games, I guess.

@Evilriku13 With the exception of the final dungeon yes. The story is fascinating; the Perfect Works is an incredible read, but clicking through extremely long cutscenes for hours is not my idea of a great game.

The first big game Mitsuda fully composed, the soundtrack has a lot of similarities with his work on Chrono Trigger. Xenogears is probably the PS1 RPG I most want to replay. I need to refresh my memories, I remember really liking it but most of the story passed right through my young self. As a big fan of the Xenosaga trilogy's story, I'll be happy to get back into the Xeno universe.

@Rene-Daniel Savoie Played it first time this year. I really enjoyed it but man the story was very complicated, in the end i had to read up some stuff so i know wtf happened lol.
