This game was an extremely strong addition to the series, and one of my personal favorites. I'd say this is my second favorite Zelda game, behind Link's Awakening.
Funny how i got so caught up in the gameplay i didn't notice the music too much.This is rather beautiful :) And a bit haunting,which is fitting for a swamp place.

I hope to get this game soon. I have a 3DS, but I'm currently in the middle of Pokémon X & Y (yes, both games).

All of the Lorule Dungeon tracks are new, yet they remind me of the Dark World Dungeon theme so much. Then each dungeon gets its own flavor to fit the atmosphere. Treacherous Tower has the Dark World Dungeon theme, and it's fabulous.

I love this theme, its one I immediately noticed when entering the dungeon, so atmospheric.
This was the only track in the game i went on youtube immediately to look for and listen to again. Best track in the game easily

@Alon Jacovi I agree. This theme sounds a bit too over the place for my taste. The Lorule Theme is much better imo
Sounds Paper Mario: TYD-ish, to me. That continuous synth arpeggio is a really TYD sound.
I finished this game a couple days ago. The verdict: amazing. GAMEPLAY: The first thing I noticed when I played this game was how smooth the controls are (60 fps very noticeable), it's almost mind blowing really. The wall mechanic adds a layer of complexity and freshness that I really appreciated. GRAPHICS: Everything looks much better with 3D turned on. The 3D isn't too exagerated unlike other 3DS games, making it very easy on the eyes. MUSIC: A mix of remixes and original tracks making for one of my favorite soundtracks in the series. I love how each dungeon in Lorule has its own personality and theme (the Sanctuary dungeon remix in Hyrule is amazing). For me, the main flaw is the renting system: it's simply too easy to rent everything near the start of the game and if you ever die, the intended penalty which is to have to waste ruppees renting everything again isn't really there since you're quickly rich... the real penalty is that it's a small pain to go through the text of renting all the items 1 by 1 (no rent all option!). It's an easy game, but I can forgive that since there's a Hero Mode: when they have to balance a game, they have to take into consideration that some people don't have all the hearts/bottles/hidden equipment. As I said on twitter, it'd be like balancing an RPG around the players who hit lvl 99. Of course it's easy if you get everything, and that's where Hero mode comes in (hopefully). Personally, I like to never use any of my bottles (fairies/potions) which makes it quite harder. I also ended up doing the Swamp Dungeon last, which has a great piece of equipment, making the rest of the game quite harder. Well done Nintendo, well done.
Now I need a 3DS. My wishlist for the games on it has surpassed 20.
I've gotta agree SD: I could have done without the renting system. There's simply something magical about getting that new item in each new temple. I'm glad they at least had those optional equipment items you could get in the game, but that's a part of the Zelda formula I don't need to see changed. It's an awesome game overall though, and the best part of the whole experience for me was, in fact, the terrific soundtrack! Great upload man!
Yeah, exactly. I don't particularly need that sort of freedom, but I guess the good part was getting to tackle all the secrets on the overworld from the get-go, so there's that.
The thing with the rental system is that you had the option after a while to buy the items, so I'd buy one, clear the dungeon, then farm the rest of the money by catching bees for 50 rupees each, golden bees being 300. It went by pretty quickly, and it was really the only thing I was spending rupees on anyway.
I did the Swamp Dungeon second to last, and the Ice Ruins 2nd. I'm quite pleased about how little this game holds your hand and drags you through dungeons in a certain order - they haven't done this since *drumroll* A Link to the Past, my #1 or #2 Zelda game.
@***** @David Silbert As they explained in the Iwata Asks (a great read, recommended!), and as I've experienced and seen for myself - the Zelda formula makes a LOT of the not-so-hardcore players get stuck. Either a puzzle is too hard, or a boss is, or they're just missing something that's right in front of them, but at some point in every Zelda game, most players get stuck and then they don't have any way to keep playing. It happens to me a lot too, in Ocarina of Time 3D (never played N64) I didn't notice that I could move the gravestones. Eventually I gave up and looked up a walkthrough... It was so frustrating to realize THAT was what stopped me from continuing. So think of all the people who just GAVE UP instead of looking up a walkthrough. So with this rental system, if you get stuck in one dungeon, it doesn't stop you from continuing the game in other dungeons. Zelda games are always great at giving the illusion that they're not linear, when really they're as linear as it gets. Sure, you can mess around with side-quests or minigames, but in order to complete the game you have to do the dungeons in a certain order and there's no other way about it. By allowing players to give up on a certain dungeon and go do other things (other dungeons), they're allowing those players to come back to the dungeon later with more equipment, and a refreshed mind. [[warning - rambling]] If I get stuck in a game and can't continue, my mind obsesses about that part specifically every time I think of the game. Eventually when I approach it again, I come back with the same thoughts I had the first time, which have persisted since. I remember exactly what is where, and expect to see the same thing, therefore I don't notice anything new that I didn't notice the first time. If I can see other parts of the game, it lets me completely forget about the stuck area, so the next time I'm there I can examine it as if it's new to me, likely seeing what I missed the last time.
@NeatNit You didn't NEED to move the gravestones to proceed, no?... I'm pretty sure everything below them is pretty much optional... could be wrong, or could be my memory failing me...
@NeatNit Wow, never thought of that kind of audience when playing. The ironic thing about ALBW is that despite the rental system, I still got stuck at things right in front of me, to the point where I resorted to a walkthrough to progress twice (pretty ashamed of it as well). So yeah, even when all the items were open from the get-go, there were small little things that frustrated me beyond belief (and not really in a good way, since one of these times I was frustrated was due to misleading dialogue from an NPC). Overall though, an interesting argument, and I'll admit I hadn't thought of that.
@Sydonai11 You need to get the hookshot from dampe under one of them to get into the forest temple =).
Haha, EXACTLY my opinion! Gameplay was butter smooth and perfectly-paced for a handheld game. The 3D was the best yet for me. Subtle enough to not distract but still effective enough to make everything nicer and yeah, easy on the eyes because of the 60fps. Music was absolutly great and had a very nice live band, "quartet"-y vibe to it. Loved everything about this game and really didn't want it to end. One of the best Zeldas indeed. Gives hope for the future Zelda Wii U :)
@David Silbert Let me guess, Hilda telling you that you can't complete any of the dungeons in the section of Lorule you start from? (which you totally can, especially if you also have the hookshot) I only gave up on Thieves' Hideout because I didn't realize you could throw bombs up to higher levels. (and would've gave up on Dark Palace if I didn't finally figure it out)
@SupraDarky bit late to the party here, but I really hated this game. I can't even bring myself to finish it. I love the soundtrack, and the graphics are nice, but the Gameplay really gets on my nerves. The fact that you can easily just buy all the items in the game totally ruined it for me.
+SupraDarky renting system isn't so bad if you play through the game more quickly. I usually could only pick up one new item at a time. I didn't like how the bombs/bow used up "energy" rather than a stock of bombs/arrows. Other than that I agree with your conclusions. I liked where they took the story, it was somewhat unexpected. The boss rush thing, and fighting against other players in 1v1 matches was a fun/difficult addition. I look forward to playing hero mode :)
