Both Shenmue games have fantastic soundtracks but if you mean the games themselves then yes it is. The first game is very slow paced and takes a while to get to the good parts and you can't skip time. You can in Shenmue 2 and the areas to explore are huge and more detailed and the pacing is better. But unless you're a pretty patient player then Shenmue probably isn't a good game series for you. Otherwise you'll probably like it quite a bit; 2 is my favourite game. Hope that helps :)

I've only played the first Shenmue and I thought it was awesome and enjoyable for the time being.
Supra's previous entries on this game are what drove me to get a Dreamcast almost exclusively for this game. Such a worthy purchase! Keep 'em coming SupraDarky; you're shedding light on amazing games!
I have to disagree. There is nothing in Shenmue that feels dated. The graphics are still mind blowing. To appreciate graphics you must always look in retrospect.
You know, I've always heard great things about Shenmue, but this is the thing that cemented my desire to play it. What a great soundtrack. Loving the first game so far. Thanks Supra for a great upload. :)

i played sleeping dogs tough,besides the fact that the game is in Hong Kong and the chasing scenes,the game is not really that similiar to shenmue it has a similiar feel i can't deny that,but it also has a huge gta one,while yakuza is more like an rpg,where you explore a town and have a lot of mini-games(including real arcade games has of yakuza 5 like virtua fighter) and it also has qte in fights has of 3 i think. But non of both of these has a fighthing system has deep has shenmue.

I have a DreamCast but my Shenmue 2 is on Xbox, the graphism is better and i never finish it..

If you've got an xbox 360 the xbox original version is backwards compatible should be able to find it quite cheap :)

That guy did the soundtrack for a Sega Saturn/PC survival horror video game called Enemy Zero.
As someone that played Shenmue 1 and 2 i have to say Sleeping Dogs reminds me a lot more to Shenmue than Yakuza does. Yakuza have similarities but it doesn't feel the same. Sleeping dogs is a great game anyway, nothing lost trying it.
Haven't gone to Japan yet (will be in a few years, super excited) but have lived in Kowloon City, Hong Kong a short time as a very young child about 20 years ago. The roasted chestnuts in the morning, the double-decker buses, the Bruce Lee toys, the ferry rides, Ocean Park, Lion Rock, and the warm people. I miss it dearly; one of the most beautiful places in the world. And this track ain't helping one bit, Supra. Heh, I urge you, no IMPLORE you to visit Hong Kong at least once in your life.

I played both as a kid, love them both. Dont remember if i finished em but it was truly done well, one of the first times i felt like i was playing a movie. And I just love games that are set in asia! It would be awesome to get a sequel or even a new game based on the shenmue universe. I dont remember this song but its really beautiful

Shenmue 1+2 is probably my #1. It's nice to see it up there. I would pay so much money to get them on PSN/XBL even direct ports. Even if Shenmue 3 is too expensive for a Kickstarter, Sega should try one for PSN/XBL release. They emulate poorly and dreamcasts and XBOXs die out, soon it won't be possible to play them in all their glory.
They are two different series, you can't compare Yakuza to Shenmue. :\

Based on the stuff i''ve seen, it would seem like the game titled "Sleeping Dogs" would be your best Shenmue III substitute.
Oh man, I remember playing Shenmue 2 on the xbox. As a kid playing it I never really know what to do, but I just had fun playing pachinko and activities you could do.
I absolutely love this song, Gabe. It's a truly amazing song from the laundry list of composers for this game. I keep saying this every so often, but your taste for video game music is absolutely incredible and it is a treat to see what you think makes one game great over another.

It was more than just playing a video game for me, Shenmue 1&2 provided me with an unforgettable experience. It felt like I was traveling to Japan and Hong Kong and it's one of the big reasons I really want to go there someday. If I could ask for any single sequel to be created, it'd be Shenmue III.
This theme is a masterpiece, just like the series. Honestly, I can't separate Shenmue 1 and 2, they're both tied. I probably have more nostalgia for the 1st (played it around Christmas while it was snowing out my window) but Shenmue II is longer and more polished. Shenmue 1&2 didn't age too well because of the tank controls and the graphics not being mind blowing anymore (they definitely were back then). However the story, the audiovisual presentation and the atmosphere is still among the best.
