So, I've started playing this game. I've died a total of 4 times so far. Somehow, none of them were from enemies (even the prologue boss I beat without dying). All my deaths so far have been from me clumsily falling off cliffs.
well as long as you keep your feet on the ground long enough to retrieve your souls :p
Im impressed about the fact that you have not included the startup menu theme from this game, it is a really beautiful piece. You listen to that calm music and suddenly you are in a silent and barren world.
Hmm, I don't think Dark Souls 2 will be better, because the fanboys already considers the franchise to be more important than breathing.
Sometimes I go a little hollow....if you know what I mean...
It's a shame, the story is actually pretty fantastic and (suprisingly) quite thought provoking. Sure it's not handed out to you freely, but doing the digging and taking in to account the subtle hints in the enviroment it all comes together, and it's very rewarding. If you are at all interested, search for EpicNameBro's Plot Summary here on YouTube (it's only about 20mins long). It covers a lot of the major points, and he expanded upon them in later videos.
I'd say it's not that weird especially if it's a fairly long game...I actually took about a month break late in Chrono Trigger (right about when I started some endgame optional quests) before beating it, and I don't need to tell you it's a great game ;)

this game is highly addictive, like a deadly drug. It killed me over and over and over and over, but i kept going back for more, immersing myself in the flexibility of the combat system, leveling system, and the depth of the Lordran's lore and its Undead inhabitants.
Currently trying to complete this before DkS 2 comes out, might take a while as it turns out that while Catarina armour is the coolest thing since cold sliced bread (or something) it's a complete bugger to see anything in front of you in tight corridors.
So when are you doing Daughters of Chaos and/or Maiden Astraea's theme?
It's his personal opinion, sure Dark Souls is a great game, but i don't think it's THE best game of all time. I found Dragon's Dogma as amazing as Dark Souls was, the fights were epic in both game.
Or you can take the elevator down to New Londo Ruins and shit your pants :P
I really have to finish this game. Have very short attetion span. So sometimes i stop playing games for no reason (even though i love em) Stopped when i was gonna fill the Lordvessel Again for no real reason. hate myself for that. Despite this i want to calim this as one of my favorite games this generation. Might end up in my top 10 of all time. (Sounds wierd when i event havent finished it right?)

This game's cemented itself as one of the few that'll be remembered longer many others.
Funny, just finished this game today, and this pops up. Dunno if it breaks into my personal all time favourites, but it's definitely one of the best games this generation (or last, depending on how you look at it), without a doubt. Anyways, neat choice of music. Not my favourite, but it sums up the overall tone and vibe of the game quite nicely. Well, when you're not throwing expletives at it, that is.
The ambiance brings a feeling of temporary safety that Resident Evil save rooms gave. I miss that feeling in my games :(
I have not played this game, but I do know from listening to the incredible soundtrack by Sakuraba that it is one of the 10 best soundtracks I have ever listened to in the last year and a half. The job Sakuraba did in creating an atmospheric and minimalist soundtrack is a gem. Sauraba is one of my favorite composers of all time and for good reason for creating such awesome soundtracks like this one and being one of the contributors to the soundtrack for Kid Icarus Uprising. Nice choice, Gabe!
Try the game if you're up for a challenge! People like to say you can't play it casually, but I feel like you can if that's your style, just with the right build.
One of the best tracks in recent memory. The perfect mix of loneliness, despair, apathy and strangely, peace, that matches the tone of Dark Souls exactly.
Just finished today after the 20th time losing to the end boss! Great game! Sometimes not fair, though.

You know, since this personal list takes nostalgia into account, I wouldn't be surprised if DS broke my top 10 in a couple years. If Dark Souls 2 fixes a couple of this game's flaws, it'll probably also get in there. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint!

Indeed ! I love this game. I think that's the game I've most played on my PS3. I bough it on launch day and every now and then I still play it. Its awesome ! can't wait for Dark Souls 2.
The Firelink Shrine is early in the game and is probably the only place where you can feel mostly safe. Even then, you don't have to walk too far before seeing your first monsters. That's how the game teaches you that it's open world and that you can die in a matter of seconds: you can either go up the stairs and encounter normal skeletons, or go check out the graveyard and get killed in one shot by a stealth giant skeleton that's much higher level than you are. I learned it the hard way.
My favorite game of its generation. Dark Souls takes elements from Castlevania, Metroid and RPGs that I'm huge fan of and mixes them to create a masterpiece. I'm a fan of open world games like Elder Scrolls/Fallout/etc., but I much prefer the open world style of Metroid and this game. This game is all about the gameplay; the lore and the minimalistic plot is given to you through dialogue from characters within the world. That made for one of the most immersive games I've ever played.
