Although there are several tracks from this game I would've selected prior to choosing this one, I certainly admire SD's willingness to make decisions despite public opinion.

To me this track is definitely better on the NES version mostly due to that cool arpeggio effect//echo starting at 0:30. The Famicom version doesn't use the effect at all.
No it was a big release when it came out. I remember all the game mags were previewing the hell out of it and it had multiple covers on mags.

Actually, Extra Credits did a little bit of brainstorming on the subject. They predicted that, since music on the NES was so limited, they had to focus on memorable tunes instead of multiple layers.

The Famicom version's soundtrack is indeed richer, but nostalgia has a way of adding flavor to things.
Good timing SD! Have been thinking about Castlevania these past few days :) Probably one of my favorite game series. Unfourtunatly i didnt enjoy Lords of Shadows :( And am tired of the whole "metroidvania" thing.
One of my favorite NES games and probably my 2nd favorite platformer on the console after Mario Bros 3. I know a lot of people prefer the music in the Famicom's version, but having played this version as a kid I like the NES music better.
