Certainly The best MetroidLike Castlevania with Symphony of The Night
so far i haven't seen much of a reason to get a 3DS. a new castlevania game made in the style of metroidvania that was made good and used the capabilities of the 3DS without feeling like tacked on gimmicks would be such a reason.
Reasons to get a 3DS: Smash Bros. 4, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds; Ocarina of Time 3D; Majoras Mask 3D, Fire Emblem Awakening (though I've never played it it sounds amazing), Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Mario Kart 7, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire; Omega Ruby; X; Y, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Pushmo, AND SO MANY MORE!!
@Moop Bread my feelings about those games. smash bros...been there done that LOZ link between world- ok as long as i am not forced into using the stylus FOR EVERYTHING. LOZ OOT/ majoras mask- have on N64 why buy twice? fire emblem awakening- might try it out since i am a sucker for JRPG's (if they are turn based) animal crossing- didn't look all that interesting to me (the sims with animals insted of people) mario kart 7- i got mario kart DS couldnt imagine 7 being any more then a minor upgrade. the pokemon games- at this point i have had my fill of this series. it suffers from SSDD (same shit different day) so bad. and they are running out of ideas for pokemon (when you use things like a trash bag or a sword to be a pokemon you have officially run out of creativity.) new super mario bros 2- seen this and the super mario bros on original DS. again i have SMB 1 and 2. these are just slight upgrades. I will be blunt most of nintendo's current and upcoming games are just rehashes of what's already out their. just with minor upgrades. and to a degree the same can be said for castlevania. the difference however is that at least the castlevania series attempts to make itself look new by changing the characters, storylines, gameplay mechanics, levels music etc. hell i got the above mentioned castlevania dawn of sorrow and was about to return it to the store thinking it was just a port of the GBA game of the same name. only to try it out first and discover it's actually a sequel. TLDR: your game list is not drawing me in to getting a 3DS. think i will keep playing my DS.
Sometimes, sticking to your roots isn't a bad thing. Sega suffers from experimenting. Jus' sayin'.
@Moop Bread yea but on the flip side if you never try anything new people will eventually get board with the same old thing and look elsewhere for something new. then again growing up in the late 80's early 90's where new innovations and ideas flourished all the time may have spoiled me a bit. i tend to have the old man's "i've seen everything" mindset.
Just because certain games may be a minor upgrade doesn't mean they're not fun! Don't get me wrong, I love the classics! And my shelves go to prove it! But, I still love Nintendo and I don't care if the games they make today are only minor upgrades to previous ones! They're still hella fun! And in the end, that's all that matters, right? Just having fun.
They won't give back Yamane the chance to make music for the games because she was the one who left Konami in 2008. She's retired from the Castlevania games.

Love the bassline in this one. Dawn of Sorrow's music reminds me that despite the sheer volume of Somas ruining the character in Harmony of Despair, this was still a genuinely great outing. Not as ballbustingly difficult as I've come to expect from the series (but Order of Ecclesia scratched THAT itch.) ...Has An Empty Tome been on your listing yet? I love me some Shanoa.

My first DS and one of my favorites ost and Castlevania game.
Mirror of Fate was the first Castlevania game I could not force myself to finish. It was a really fun game in the beginning but that fun didn't last too long and the game soon gets extremely stale and repetative. Maybe I will give it another try someday but what I really want to see now is another 2D Medroidvania game (maybe with Julius as the main protagonist).
I agree with Supra. While I appreciated that they wanted to try something new with the LoS storyline and non-Metroidvania, I don't think it worked too well. Least they borrowed the music from LoS. I hope they go back to Iga as well. I'd love to see the battle between Julius and Dracula and what Julius did to stop the 100 year resurrection cycle.

i get it because it looks like SotN with 2.5 D Grafik, but its so boring linear.
From what I heard, Symphony of the Night adopted (well, CREATED) the Metroidvania formula to add more lasting value to the series, after the game's director was sick of seeing previous Castlevanias end up in bargain bins all the time.
Well Konami has been doing stuff to the castlevania franchise that has rubbed many of its fans the wrong way (myself included)... I feel they are taking the demographic that has the largest payout than respecting the fans of the older market, but what do I know? I am a completely biased consumer when it comes to the castlevania series.
You know what I want to see? A Castlevania along the lines of Super Castlevania IV. Surprising they haven't done one like that in decades, considering how beloved that entry was.
Personally I don't want IGA to be involved EVER again with CV. It's a franchise that I love and as much as he was the reason to bring CV to a change and certain fame (SOTN), he also was the biggest reason to defile the Image and the basic principles that were the conception of the game (Sorrow series, Judgement and CoD). Yamane is great though. But I think Konami has better talents that can bring CV to the intelligence and fun of the SCIV & SOTN days. Just my Opinion as a BIG FAN.

DoS has such great music. I'm playing through it right now and only some of the late-game stages have tunes that somewhat disappoint.
Of the DS games, PoR has my favorite soundtrack. I also played the demo for Mirror of Fate, didn't like it at all.

One of the very best Castlevanias; I still play it to this day. Also, I completely agree with SupraDarky's opinion of those...questionable, recent installments.

All 3 GBA games and all 3 DS games were great. The demo for the 3ds version was straight up terrible I haven't played the actual game to find out how bad it really is. Hopefully we get a good one soon on 3ds its a great system for it.
I'm alright with Lords of Shadow 1&2, but Mirror of Fate on the 3DS was a much weaker game than any of Iga's metroidvanias. I'm pretty sure it's been reflected with poor sales, so hopefully Konami wakes up and gives Iga back the chance to make new handheld games in the series. Not just Iga, but also Yamane and her memorable melodies.
