I actually enjoyed the music but eternia or phantasia are gonna be the most memorable for myself i'm waiting for xillia 2 xD

I love Symphonia as well. it's my favorite.
My personal favorites in terms of story in the Tales series as Symphonia and Abyss, I have trouble determining which one I like more. Symphonia's plot was so good that I found myself disappointed when I looked at the story its predecessors, which I found weren't up to par with it, Abyss, and Vesperia.

Ah tales of symphonia... ABOUT DARN TIME SUPRA. This game had such a powerful effect on me that I strongly define my moral compass by its messages. A true masterpiece so far as I'm concerned. I really do love this game, and have yet to find it's equal -- truly, I've yet to have something even come close.
No battle themes? Fatalize, It can Waver and Fight, Beat the Angel, End of a Thought, just to name a few.

Yeah, I have also played through it so many times I couldn't count. I think the battle system is what makes the game so unique. Also, there are so many little secrets to find. It just doesn't get boring.

I personally think Symphonia is not the best game in the series. I would choose Phantasia and, above all, Abyss (and Legendia only for the OST). I believe that Symphonia is the Final Fantasy VII of the Tales: people love it because it was the first one to go out from Japan.
This game was so good. The other Tales games I've played, Abyss, Graces, Xillia just haven't been able to touch it. It's possibly nostalgia or series fatigue but I think there's something more to this game than the others.
There were Tales games before Symphonia.
doesn't it suck how the games you WISH would get endlessly ripped off never do? I dream of a world where every RPG has a Tales type battle engine to the point that we're almost tired of them.

I definitely agree, but Symphonia was the first one to come out, it was so unique, magical and it felt so different from any other RPG at the time totally love it
If anything you can try out the various game cube rpgs. Use ROM sites as a guide towards what games look interesting. Have fun playing them! I did :)

I will certainly try one day. I miss a good old school RPG, one of those where you really feel for the characters, not just facepalm everytime they open their mouth. Ni No Kuni reminded me too much of the good ol' days...
Definitely a stagnant series. As much as I've enjoyed Symphonia, Abyss, and Vesperia, they were all so similar...the characters are really the only thing that sets them apart- the plot, setting, and mechanics are all so similar... That said, they're still good RPGs worth a playthrough. Symphonia gets a little too much praise though. Abyss, all the way.
Am I the only who loved the first ToS, and found the second one boring ?
Loved this game. Got and played Abyss and was pleased. Didn't fancy Graces tho, but I can't wait for Xillia to hit stateside. :)
I suggest playing Tales of Graces...it will take that franchise fatigue right away.

I have never played a Tales game... yet. This music is making me consider the craziness of getting a gamecube and playing it. It's strange how much I enjoy the music starting 0:25. It's just magical.

Yeah, Tales of Symphonia is still my favorite game in the series. I haven't gotten tired of the series yet, but Motoi Sakuraba's soundtracks for the series' games have been pretty lousy recently. I'm feeling franchise OST fatigue and, sure enough, when Go Shiina composed the music for Tales of Legendia, it blew away Sakuraba's recent Tales' OSTs. Too bad the rest of Legendia was less than great.
Just started playing this again on both Gamecube and PS2. My most played game of all time <3.
This game will always have a special place in my heart... I was playing it while transitioning to my current home (9 years ago). Heh, I was watching the big Yu-gi-oh season finale with Marik and Yugi as well.

I'm the exact same way! This is my favourite game of all time (partly biased since I received this game during one of the toughest times of my life, so it helped distract me from everything). Anyone know where to find, or how to get that background?

I've probably replayed Symphonia more than any other game ever. More than FF6, more than FF9, more than Chrono Trigger, more than Ocarina of Time, Link to the Past or Super Metroid. It's just such a fantastic game that never gets old to me. Just hearing this song again tells me it's about time for another run through.
You can turn off voices in both though I highly recommend giving them a try especially ToS where the English voice work is great though there's a lot more voice work in Abyss which doesn't sound too bad either. Both games sound superior compared to Eternia and Graces (some characters sounded pretty good) imo
I'd love to play a Tales game, the gameplay really looks great, but, I can't take voice acting in videogames. I dunno why I'm different, but I find it annoying. Maybe it's because I don't want my parents to hear what the dialogue is because they wouldn't get it, but, maybe it's something else... Just out of curiosity, is there a way to turn off voices in Tales of Symphonia or Tales of the Abyss? Because those are the games I plan to get first.
I personally think that Vesperia nailed it in terms of both an engaging story and fine-tuned gameplay. Others in the series cycled between annoying character tropes and frustrating gameplay additions (e.g. Abyss/Hearts for the former and Legendia for the latter.) I , too, am anxiously awaiting Xillia.
It was really strange for me to get into this game. I remember Nintendo Power having an issue with this game as cover art and I pretty much ignored it. When Final Fantasy IV Advance (a really crappy port) came out, Nintendo Power reviewed it and I saw Tales of Phantasia on the GBA alongside it (even though it too, was a crappy port). I bought and loved Phantasia and heard that this game was in the same timeline and bought Symphonia. I love it to this day.

Might just be me but I feel as though the story quality has gone down with each installment, while the gameplay quality has gone up. Characters are always enjoyable, at least. Here's to hoping Xillia turns out alright.
It's weird to say I haven't played any of the games...yet I think I own half the games in the series...I should probably get into this one when I get a chance huh?
I'm a fan of this series, but I'm really starting to feel some franchise fatigue because of how similar most of the games are. Symphonia is one of the better games in the series though, I really enjoyed it. One thing's for sure, the battle system is always entertaining.
