Warcraft 2 was such a cool game. They made so many improvements over the original. The game play was fun, the story engrossing, the music top notch, and the expansion was good too. Even the port to the PSOne was really fun. Blizzard really needs to get back to its old self again.
Indeed, I played for the first time both 1 and 2 a one year ago and Warcraft 1 was fun but all game mechanics was so stupid like one town hall only and poor AI response of your units not even trying to fight back without a command.
Yeah, it was pretty frustrating to play, especially on the the harder missions. But the idea was so cool, and the potential was definitely there. Warcraft 2 delivered in spades.
@David Alvarez True. Also high resource requirements on everything slowing the game a lot, 4 character limit per group and fact that to move or attack you need to press a keyboard button. Glad that Warcraft 2 Battle net edition fixed most of problems that Warcraft 1 have.
I'm pretty sure Blizzard reorchestrated this in Echoes of War. I'm not sure.

Tolkien created the orcs, Warhammer altered them but Blizzard made them popular and thus created the archetype of orcs now a days.
Tolkien invented almost nothing, orcs, elfs, etc are traditional legends of Europe. He just transforms it, for example the dwarfs, who in the legends are bigger than humans.
I think if they picked up Warcraft 4, the most likely event would be to take "sidestories" of the series. Why? Because it can tie back into WoW for one without needing to test the limits of their storytelling, while also allowing them to expand on the world with newer casts that aren't, well, just the leaders of the Alliance and the Horde. Dealing with stray sentient undead would for example be quite compelling imo.
the problem with wow is it HAS NO STORY it's all just kill this villain, then the next villain, then the next villain, with the exception of the frozen halls instance you kill every baddie, in the warcraft games, it game both sides a chance and it actually had storytelling.

and since MMO's generally last until the company goes bankrupt, they will keep adding lore to wow making a new warcraft pointless

Thanks for this powerful track and we all share your hopes for a good game. But with the lore direction of WoW I am not so sure. (It would also be nice of you to include some Homeworld series tracks since we talk about 90s RTS here, cheers.)

Makes me wanna replay Warcraft 2 again.
The WoW story didn't really screw much up, since each end boss was still killed by a Hero from Warcraft lore (Akama, Kalec, Thrall, and so on) who were followed by a band of intrepid mercenaries (you, the players). This isn't really any different to Warcraft, where you simply recruit faceless men and women to do your bidding. With a bit of ingenuity and competency in the craft, I'm sure a potential 4th entry could pick things up just fine.

I doubt we will ever see a WC4. The setting is basically exhausted after all the WoW expansions.
There won't be a Warcraft IV. They have an RTS already, which is Starcraft II. Warcraft's world continues in WoW. Only when WoW dies, and it will take a VERY long time for it to kick the bucket, will we get the chance. Until then, nope. Forget it. What they CAN do... and SHOULD do imho... is to make a TPS adventure game spinoff. It's not a genre they've touched yet...

Totally agree with the story screw up. WoW cannibalized the story for the sake of cool dungeon bosses. I think they had WoW players kill off pretty much every interesting antagonist from WC3.

I loved WC3 too, but I never want to see WC4. None of the key people are there anymore, and Blizzard's recent ventures haven't exactly lived up to their old name.
Oh man i love the warcraft franchise except Wow. I don't hate that Wow but it's not my cup of tea.
This reminds me of how Blizzard once announced "Warcraft: Heroes of Azeroth" as an April Fool's Day joke, and then not everyone got the joke due to how much WoW has displaced the rest of its franchise in terms of popularity.
It continues the story, sure, but it's a totally different genre. There's definitely room (and demand) for a fourth Warcraft RTS game.

at least they reused this theme for the pet battles in WoW. Good choice on the post SD, enjoyed that game and agree with ya on WC4 should be made. There's hope they announce it at blizzcon

I need/would like a Warcraft IV like the epic that was this Warcraft II(music and epic rush tower or grunts/footmans) with the options of Warcraft III and maybe the minigames of it, I don´t sure if i would like more heroes like Warcraft III We need more epic songs of this best Warcraft ever.

Ah the nostalgia!! Loved all three WC RTS games, the progression from WC 1,2, to 3 was excellent. Would be interesting to see how they evolve the genre IF they ever make a WC4 as all the comments suggest ;)

Man, I loved the art work and music to WW1, 2, and 3.
I kind of want to play this game now. Although, I'm not exactly into that genre...
Oh this game was all the way through, though it annoyed me that I could never legitlly save Uther from that ambush.
I love how people are in here talking about how "WoW fucked-up the story" as-though Warcraft's story was anything special in the first place.
I would love to see a Warcraft 4. It was nice how Starcraft was more of a "normal" RTS, where Warcraft had the heroes for a sort of RPG feel mixed-in.
Warcraft IV sadly will not happen unless they redo the lore.

I think the expanded lore that WoW created could provide a great breeding ground for interesting content. But I also agree that Blizz will likely never stop sucking the dry and shriveled money teat that Wow has become
Warcarft 4 should be made within the next 3 years or it will experience Duke Nukem Syndrome. A horrible condition in which Fan Expectations will never meet the cold hard reality that the developers are fine and dandy just coasting on money made from previous installments, and as soon as they can see their floor past the piles of cash they will make a quick, hack of a sequel to fill in the missing pieces.
I remember when we thought 7 years between Warcraft II and Warcraft III was an incredibly long wait... Well it's been 11 years since Warcraft III came out (I feel old). Where's our Warcraft IV, Blizzard? It's not like WoW is needing all of your time and ressources anymore. Hopefully, it's going to be their next big announcement.
