This theme really makes me think of Phalanx from Shadow of the Colossus.
How do you find such good thumbnail art?

The thumbnail looked a bit like a rocker doing a power slide and flexing his arms, headbanging his hair into a coil.
This would be my favorite Zelda if only it had more damn Dungeons and Temples. It feels half finished and hardly a major Zelda title.
Just got the re-release on Wii U - I forgot just how beautiful this game is! Agreed about the disappointing dungeons. For me, it wasn't so much that they were disappointing, but that there were so damn FEW of them. Also, while I absolutely love sailing around the ocean, and the accompanying theme, it felt like there should have been more than one ocean theme (similar to the point you made in the Earthbound post about it being frustrating when RPGs only have one battle theme, even if it's great).
Call me an idiot but I liked the Triforce peice quest.
or u can use project 64 on full HD, looks so crisp, dated i say, i grow with those graphics so i dont bother (except the 17fps of ocarina of time, drive me mad as hell) majoras mask is the best looking game of the n64 so, just past that and you're ready for a hell of an adventure
Wind Waker is everything said and more. One of my faves too. I love Dragonroost Island's outdoor music the most, that and Maker's sage song.
Hmm...dungeons were always my least favorite part of Zelda games, which is probably why this one was my favorite.
Short isn't necessarily bad, they can put more thought into what already exists. Majora's Mask was short and yet was brilliant due to deep level design and tons of side quests wheras WW has good dungeons, varied gameplay, and a large world to explore.
Yes! I agree. I loved everything about Wind Waker but I always dread that Triforce quest. If they added more dungeons for the Triforce pieces instead, this would be even more amazing.
Yeah, but most people wouldn't right away unless they already knew they were virtually required to complete the game.
I thought the triforce fetch quest was a good idea in theory as a way of mixing it up with some mini dungeons rather than throwing more main dungeons at us, and to pay homage to the original Zelda. It wasn't executed all that well for the reasons you gave, though your "rupee hoardings" criticism doesn't become an issue if you find all of the rupee bag upgrades as soon as they become available.
This game still looks beautiful didnt need a remake but im not complainin

I have to say it's hard to pick a favorite Zelda game, but this one is in the top 3 for me. The ocean had an amazingly epic feel to it that I can't truly attach to most other games and it was actually quite technologically marvelous. Plus the soundtrack is still one of my favorites along with the cel-shaded style. I like both it and the more "realistic" style equally.
Both OoT and MM are on the Wii's Virtual Console, so you can play them using either a Gamecube controller or a Classic Controller. The graphics look a little bit better than they do on the N64. OoT was recently remade for the 3DS with fully updated graphics (and a few other changes), so that's another option.

You HAVE to play both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask (especially the last one), even if you still aren't a fan of the Zelda franchise :).

@Ce1es A friend and I had this theory that the games you like best have emotional highs and lows, and perhaps that's the reason the games flaws don't mean much to us.
@EvilMariobot It was a poor decision, but I can forgive them as Wind Waker is still the best Zelda game I've ever played.
Seriously? Personally, I always feel a bit short-sheeted if a Zelda game has less than 8 main dungeons.

true it has its flaws but it's awesome and stands out for some reasons IMHO: - technical brilliance, due to it's cell shading it looks better than TP and SS in native resolution and when upscaled - best facial expression ever in a Zelda game. Full range from hilarious to heart breaking - Forsaken Fortress! The first visit is a sneaky one like you are solid snake, the second time it's like you kick in the door and wreck the whole thing.
At least the Water Temple was a challenge, unlike pretty much ALL of WW. I agree with SD: solving the dungeons is probably my favorite aspect of the Zelda series, and WW's dungeons were far too easy and very forgettable. What they did with combat, though, was fantastic.
I still don't get the problem people have with the water temple. Sure the need to put on the boots is kind of annoying but the rest is designed brilliantly in a non-linear fashion and it's also contains the legendary (however unexplained iirc) fight against dark Link.
I know, right? How can you forget the ever-enjoyable water temple from Ocarina of Time?
The dungeons were your biggest problem? Really? What about the triforce hunt? I've never finished the game just because I always stop some time during the triforce hunt.

I sort of agree, but you really can tell that was just in there to "force" the player to actually explore the vast ocean world that they had created. Kind of a shame, but I see why they did it.
This was about time! I still love this game a lot, definitely one of my favorite Zelda games ever.

Currently doing a playthrough of Wind Waker and I have to say, it has aged the best out of all the Zelda games so far. The atmosphere and the soundtrack are perhaps the strongest aspects..and Ganondorf. He really shines in this one.

Fact: They had the ideas and time available to replace that with more dungeons. Actuall fun playable dungeons, but were concerned because they believed the reason no one completd ocarina was that it had too many. So we get the awful triforce thing instead.
Yesssss I've been thinking about this for a month. Like, a month ago, I realized that WW was almost 10 years old and I was like "holy crap, I'm old if one of my favorite games today came out when I was 9!" It certainly doesn't feel like the GC era was that long ago, even when I know the Wii era started 6 years ago.

I loved the sense of exploration, I vividly remember all the dungeons, loved the music, the characters, this is my #2 Zelda game and #10 game of all time. It'd be my #1 Zelda and probably in my top 3 games of all time if not for a single but drastic game destroying flaw...that freaking Triforce piece quest. Between Tingle, insane rupee hoardings, and the most random searching for stuff imaginable, that quest is untolerable. Remove that quest, and this game would be perfect for me.

Wind Waker came out exactly 10 years ago. As far as I'm concerned, this game is a flawed masterpiece. The ocean and all the islands gives a sense of exploration that's still hardly matched. And it's all seamless, no loadings between the ocean and the islands. The cel shaded graphics still look awesome today. Unfortunately, I found the dungeons mostly forgettable, which is why I can't say this is my favorite 3D Zelda.
