I really really really liked this place in the game. It goes from a normal stinky swamp with insects in the day to the garden of Eden with God's most powerful beasts at night

This artwork of Satorl Marsh is so beautiful. This is one of the few areas in Xenoblade Chronicles where I like the night theme more than the day theme. When I saw Satorl Marsh at night for the first time, I was just amazed at how beautiful the atmosphere and music was, especially the glowing trees and the fog on the lower parts.

I'm reading that a lot of people here got killed by that strong enemies in this area... Guess I was pretty lucky then. I nearly almost had Satorl at night, but somehow the enemies never attacked me.Okay, I didn't ran directly besides or in front of them, but I also didn't avoid them on purpose. Just running trough that marsh at night.

I mean we don't have an official translation/interpretation of the lyrics, so anything we try to predict about them is in the realm of the theoretical.

When this game first released and I got to Satorl Marsh. I didn't want to advance the story-line, I like this music, it was peaceful and sad. I would sit there listening to night music :D
The sadness increases when high entia people start to come here as refugees and you read their stories...

Bruh, you can't come here the first time in day after you beat Xord, it's always night when you first come here. And besides, the enemies are too much for a level 20-30+ to handle at night the first time, so, sadly, the night is bad at that time. It sucks that this theme only plays at night, but... eh... You can't have everything in this world.
@Km You can if you do a few missions before entering the marsh. And even with the tough enemies, the night is great.

you were really unlucky. i first entered this area at night. i was in awe from the very beginning. this is my favorite area in the whole game. nothing tops how amazing everything glows, topped with this song.
I had the exact same thing happen. It was one of those few moments where I was completely blown away once it turned to night.
I entered the Marsh at day and I think you're the unlucky one. Seeing that transition from day to night for the first time was absolutely magnificent.
Yup, every Xeno game seems to have a beautiful nighttime location. Xeno 1 had Satorl Marsh, and Xeno 2 had Uraya.
Literally every time it turned day I'd instantly switch it to night just for this music.

I thought the same at first. When the night came and everything started turning blue, i was so confused. I immediately dropped my joystick and stayed still for a long time because that landscape and the song blew my mind.

This game was like a museum, you could see a lot of pretty glimering things, but you couldn't touch or interact with any of them. When I think of this game, I think of FF13, only that they replaced their hallways with larger backyards, but is essentially the same thing, run from point A to point B, with no interaction except monsters. Oh and the boring grinding and awful sidequests, sweet jesus.
what more interaction were you expecting? a lot of JRPGs do this. Hell, even Dragon Age Inquisition was very guilty of this.
@Noz Yes, and Dragon Age was tedious as well because of it. look if you don't agree with me, just move along and ignore my criticism, but don't be an apologist. Every single media outlet has unanimously praised them and no one tells them to their faces the blatant flaws of the game. These flaws killed the experience for many, including me. I mean, this is a game that sold almost a million copies worldwide, in today's market that cannot be considered a decent amount, specially since it was released on a system with an install base of 100 million. If they ever wish to improve their sales numbers, they need to improve their game design choices, like square enix may be finally doing (I haven't played 15 yet, so who knows, I might be wrong on this).

Couldnt touch or interact? Just what are you trying to interact with? You got trees, some swamps, and some glowing shit in this area. Thats it. You can swim around if you need to or talk to Nopon merchants. What else could you imagine doing?
@Noz I thought you were trying to say "its ok because Dragon Age does it too". You want to know what I mean with interaction? I mean immersion into the world, something that makes you interested in the world other than its looks, and inviting mechanic to make that gigantic space fell less empty or useless. I was thinking of Fallout 3 or the Fallout games in general, since we are making comparisons. Fallout's world rewards you of your exploration efforts, the Xenoblade games do not, you just get pretty backgrounds. Zelda is another good example as well.
+Lion heart I remember getting a LOT of experience when exploring, especially when finding secret areas. I have never seen more interaction with the environment in a game. A great example are the high entia shrines that are scattered throughout Bionis that give you great rewards. Or even the 4 beacons you had to activate in Agniratha. I understand what you're trying to say. But it had to feel like you were actually walking on a titan, that was the purpose of the games huge map. I have to give you credit on the sidequests though. The collection and hunting quests were annoying, but there were some pretty interesting quests from named NPCs.
@Robbe D'Hondt Let me put it into different words. I was expecting Xenogears and I got an offline MMO. I don't know if Takahashi and Soraya had help when they created their masterpiece, but I'm sure as hell they either lost their touch, or no longer work with the people that made their previous masterpiece what it was.

+Lion heart The depth of the story was what really counted for me in Xenoblade though. The huge maps were just fulfilling an old children's dream of mine. I do however also enjoy a lot of old RPGs, for instance Golden Sun (played the second one like 3 full times) or DBZ: Legacy of Goku 2 (my favorite) or others. Old school RPGs on the gameboy are my favourite :D Because of all the good reviews I heard about Xenogears, I'll be sure to check it out if I have the time. Any good playthroughs you recommend?

@Robbe D'Hondt if you really want to play it, but don't want to spend the money on a playstation 1 or 3, and you don't like piracy, then simply buy it on PSN, creating an account on PSN is free. The game should be about 10 bucks. Then, download the ISO on the internet and play it using an emulator. You would be playing it legally since you paid for it on PSN. A piece of advice on Xenogears though: although the story is the best I've seen on any JRPG, the gameplay and pacing of the game are not really the best. Keeping this in mind you might just enjoy it better on youtube after all.

+msslamajama2 Xenoblade chronicles is also my favourite game ever in terms of gameplay. I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but I don't think the game has any major flaws. The combat system is my favourite combat system in any rpg. It really comes down to preference.

@Lion heart well I haven't played through it entirely, but I like the characters in xenoblade way more. The story is better in xenogears, but not THAT much better. And characters are more important to me then story. And I prefer it in every other category by far

@Lion heart As a person who's favorite game ever is Xenogears (next to Chrono Trigger), Xenoblade Chronicles is one of the most incredible games, not just JRPG's, I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing so please don't act elitist like you're super special and only the new generation can enjoy it. As an old school JRPG fan and veteran, I wholeheartedly disagree on your assessment and opinion. And seriously, you're comparing a JRPG to Fallout? Completely different style of games. Go play Fallout then. I just prefer this to that and I love Fallout.

This is one of the most beautiful areas I've ever seen in a video game. I was stunned when I first saw it and heard the music in great depth. Daytime Satorl Marsh is so lame compared to this! The colors of the night, and this incredible song, are just mesmerizing!

+Maester Mike Honestly, I think that's what makes Satorl Marsh so mesmerizing. During the day, it's this bland, colorless wetland with dull music playing in the background. But at night, suddenly everything lights up, the music becomes really ethereal, and it's almost as if you're transported to somewhere else entirely. It gives it this incredibly surreal quality.

Choose Xenoblade Chronicles. Not only is it a throw back to older RPGs, but also very fresh as well, and essentially I'd put it up there as my favorite game of this generation, and one of the best of all time. Insane replay value, and loads of hours(seriously, this thing is Skyrim on the Wii, I've got over 100+ hours and I still have yet to 100% the game, the story taking at least 50 of those hours)

That's definitely a choice where you win and lose anyway ;D Win because both games are among the greatest of the last 10 years easily,lose because it will take lonbger before you play the other^^ Xenoblade has excellent music, story tellign and gameplay and you really need alot of time to complete it. Nier is not as quite as long, but it has also brilliant music, great storytelling, and the fill you get as the player causing what happens in the game is just plain amazing, especially second time

Funny, I've literally just finished Nier for the first time XD I'd recommend going for Xenoblade as the story progresses a LOT faster. Not to say Nier is a bad game though. Once you understand the story it becomes one of the most rewarding games I've played. Think of it as a lengthy shadow of the colossus.

Go for Xenoblade Chronicles. The music, characters, and storytelling are all excellent and hearken back to many of the great qualities of the golden era of RPGs. One of the best RPGs I've played in the past ten years, along with Lost Odyssey and Radiant Historia.
My absolute favorite track from the entire game. And that's saying a lot since the entire soundtrack was excellent from start to finish. Satorl Marsh at night, however, is such a beautifully haunting melody that easily thrusts itself to the top of many lists.
