The request for thumbs almost ruined your comment, but you're absolutely correct. If good games only could have existed "back then", then what's the point of making new games? You wouldn't have this game or a bunch others, not to mention a bunch of arcade titles on XBLA/PSN. So please leave your nostalgic elitism at the door. A fun game is a good game, thank you.

@KILLERMILLER250 some people like me were never big smash bros or Mario fans in general , and ya I dislike cod, but I am an RPG guy , so oblivion , mass effect 1&2 etc

@yaktr12 You must be one of those guys that think living in the now is what makes you cooler. If you compare Super Mario 64 and the Galaxy games, the amount of tasks you have to do to get a star are either much more involved in the Galaxy games or are more difficult which you probably haven't gotten to since you stopped at the game so early. Retro games are just as good as modern games, and BTW, I never even gotten into the Zelda series but their are tons and tons of video game fans

OMG Super Mario 64 was revolutionary for playing games in 3D, it was for many people the first time they played a game where they can roam around a 3D world. I believe the Galaxy series perfected the 3D platforming of the Mario series just like how SMB3 And SMW perfected the 2D side scrolling of the Mario series.
@yaktr12 Oh, and I played GTA Vice city and above. San Andreas and 4 make it in the league.
@yaktr12 I played Heavy Rain, Oblivion, MGS4, Fallout 3 and SSF4. I can proudly put Mario Galaxy in the league of Metal Gear Solid, Elder Scrolls and Fallout. I don't really know much about Heavy Rain because I just started playing the game but it looks really amazing with all the story. SSF4 had an amazing multiplayer but... I don't put it in that league.
@yaktr12 Try pouring the amount of effort you used to beat Portal games. Why should a person try one decent game when he has 70 games? He can always grab another one if it seems to be boring at first look. By the way, what is your favorite Wii game out of 70+ games on your hacked wii? Mario Galaxy is easily number 1 Wii game and one of the best PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii titles all together.
@yaktr12 MW2 was extremely repetitive for me since I already played CoD4 and I was very familiar with that gameplay. I can't believe some people find CoD still fun but not Mario Galaxy which has an incredible level design, hooking people into the game. Side-scrolling Mario was awesome, but it was still great in 3D since Mario 64. You claimed that you played Portal and also this game before, but I don't think so... You're probably judging games from someone else's opinions without playing it.

@KILLERMILLER250 LOL cuz pc players dont own a wii, they kno better, specially if the only good games are Nintendo ones. All other 3rd party games are shit sadly.
@tarkeke Portal isn't FPS, and it's technically a platformer. I was speaking to a guy who said this game was boring o.O He claims that he has beaten both games, and Mario Galaxy was repetitive to him. The level design makes you never put down the controller because it's very creative. Someone who actually played it will mostly agree with this. I honestly don't think he finished Portal since that one requires a lot of physics, if he was really "bored" from this game...
Really awesome game. I hope to have the ORIGINAL Super Mario Galaxy someday... then this sequel.
@scikoolaid That reminds me of why I kinda like Banjo Kazooie more than Mario 64. You could accomplish everything in one run without having to be kicked out of the level as a way to extend game play. Though I can see why it was done in the mario games since some stars are event based and change the level pretty drastically like in mario sunshine where a later level is covered in lava pollution and you don't have fludd with you I love mario, but mario galaxy had too many things I didn't like.
@nostalgia85ger galaxy 2 was better, but it still wasn't nearly as good as 64 or sunshine if you want a 3d comparison

@KILLERMILLER250 I'd rather not play either of those. Super Meat Boy was easily the best Platformer this gen. It's pretty sad when an indie game ends up being far better than these bloated big budget games. Mario Galaxy was the first game in the main series that I didn't enjoy playing. The shortage of good platformers this gen is pretty depressing at least Rayman Origins looks good though.

Pff, tell me Black Ops is as epic as Mario rolling in a rock ball down the Rocky Road to this. Exactly, nazi zombies can't even begin to compare to epicness like this.
Oh and Supra, check out World of Goo's soundtrack! It has some of the most awesome VGM of all time in it :)

@KILLERMILLER250 I find it sad that even though I agree wholely, the majority of the English-speaking world still doesn't know the difference between 'than' and 'then', or for that matter, correct interpunction. But I guess we just can't all have what we want, now can we?

This is actually one of the few games of this generation I've replayed. That speaks wonders about how good this game is considering I'm replaying games on the Wii Virtual Console more than any AAA title this generation and on my good ole SNES. Also, adult life is a time strangler.

Both Galaxy games are part of my favorite games this generation. They're certainly my favorite platformers. Now I'm looking forward to Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS. This is one of the few themes in the game composed by Nagamatsu, he also made the Puzzle Plank Galaxy and the final battle theme.
