Am I the only one noticing an uncanny resemblance to Tchaikovsky's Polonaise Op. 24 (part of his opera "Eugene Onegin")? On the other hand, none of Sugiyama's work is original.

I'm gonna weigh in and say...no? They both start with a fanfare, and that's basically it. They aren't even close when it comes to genre and their composition is entirely different, owing largely to completely different rhythm (the polonaise is of obvious reasons in a swaying dance-like rhythm while Sugiyama's piece is a rather straight grandiose fanfare) and dynamics.
@LordMyoo The whole Polonaise is a fanfare, and has the same sonata form as this march, with a slow section in the middle. It's okay if you want to defend your hero. I understand.
The fanfare is very similar but otherwise no.
This overture is not in Sonata form. Sonata form requires a modulation in the exposition, a development section in a contrasting key, and a recap without modulation. For an example of something that's actually in sonata form, check out the symphonic suite version of DQ3's Rondo.

forget Joker 3, I heard there were remakes of Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure/Cobi's Journey that were made back in 2014 and never made it to International release!! Japan, quit being so selfish!!

I made some Lyrics for the Overture. It was mostly kind of nonsenceical. MOstly how my enemies Will die and blowing stuff up. It went with the Rocket Slime Overture so the Blowing things up part fit.

That's sadly very true. I do also wish that there was a bigger fanbase in the European or western countries but it seems like JRPG's are still not too popular. Hopefully this will change now with Dragon Quest 11 coming out soon. I'm so excited ^_^
I hope the 25th Anniversary Collection is released in English. It'd be nice to see the old Warrior games with their proper Dragon Quest titles.

Dragon Quest VIII is the best game I've played on PS2. Also the most time consuming game I've ever played. Also the most difficult. The extra stuff afterward is unbelievable.
I'm considering doing a symphonic band arrangement of this overture, except I was thinking of the version that starts with a horn duo.
**claps** nice, one of the themes I like. If only there were the other DQ opening themes/ intros from the previous DQ games. Sure, their the same theme, but it's a different instruments,and that's always cool.

@SupraDarky Too good! I'm actually playing DQ5 on DS today, I hadn't realized that it had been twenty five years already! I grew up with these games! It's nice that we finally got 5 and 6 after all these years!
If anyone wants to actually know all the best known VGMs, then there is no better cure then to actually go and watch all the videos of SupraDarky. All these are definitely classic and always something good to hear.

@HawkEye19970 i do like zelda, but i like Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger better, i love the classic JRPG's, also like Suikoden Series, Grandia, Final Fantasy and Breath of fire, i would take these games any day over zelda, i'm just more into RPG's, but i do buy the zelda games when they come :D
if you take away Chrono Trigger Dragon Quest games are the best games ever made IMO.
@TuxedoRay Final Fantasy will hit 25 on December 18, 2012. Ironically, very close to when the world's supposed to end. The world ends when Final Fantasy dies? O_o

Oh that melody.. I actually never played Dragon Quest, but it seems to be VERY popular. That tune got stuck in my head for so long you wouldn't believe it. Nintendo ads on events can be the most annoying thing in the world.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of this great series. Definitely one of my favorites of all time. So many memories of playing the games, especially the first four on the NES with my brothers. I recently forced myself to stop playing DQ9 since it could eat way too many hours of my time (after you beat the final boss and do the grottos). The next DQ I'll play is probably DQ5 on the Nintendo DS. This Overture is a classic, it could have easily been a x00 entry. Gotta love Sugiyama.
