Arguable. Cave shmups and Touhou have very distinct gameplay styles from each other. Personally, I very much like them both and find it difficult to choose a favorite. Aesthetically and musically however, I very much prefer Cave though. Manabu Namiki is amazing.
@BuyMeThingsNow No one's been talking about gameplay, though. ;) Although I have to say I also prefer Cave shmups gameplay-wise, not just in terms of style, visuals and music. Although their style has also taken a nosedive in the past few years with some exceptions.
@Legless Cat Personally I prefer the heavier rng found in Touhou patterns over the static boss fights in Cave. Still Mushihimesama Futari is one of my favorite games.

@Smuggy Misato That's what you have to put in patterns (to a degree) if you want players to actually utilize their reflexes or improvise. Otherwise everything just becomes pure routing/memorization, which is really boring imo. A pattern that has a few random variables that forces you to watch carefully and react each time while still employing careful strategy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> doing the same thing every time Even the guys back at Konami and Taito knew this. Gradius, Contra, and some Darius games are chalk full of random enemy behavior.

I just noticed something. Dude, where on earth did you get the idea that this track was composed by Miho Nakamura? She isn't even a composer. She is the voice of Larsa. This song was composed by Manabu Namiki.

With how popular Touhou has gotten over the past few years, most of their songs don't need anymore shout-outs than they already received. There are way too many great Touhou songs to mention, and sometimes it's risky stepping into the world of Gesenkyo. At least that's what I think.
Guess what? This game's for the Xbox 360 and wasn't released in the US...BUT this particular game has no region protection so you can buy it import and play it on your US Xbox 360! And the Black Label God Mode DLC pack is even available for it! ^_^ I own it myself and it's the best bullet hell shooter (and the hardest) that I've ever played.

@dragonstormx Futari is "two people", since you can play as a character besides the eponymous Princess Reco.
To anybody curious, "Mushihimesama" means "insect princess," though I don't know what the last part means.

Why do all 2D shooters have the best music?
Kind of a random comment, but the beginning of this until the violin starts reminds me of the music in MegaMan NT on the GC.

This isn't the music from the Boss this is the Music from the Level leading up to the boss. The Boss Music is ALOT more hectic.
@AkumaUchitoru If you listen hard to the first few seconds of that video, you can hear this song playing. The boss's name is Queen Larsa. And yeah, Ethereal Queen in RS is a bitch unless you have some tsuchinoko dumplings.
Why is there no Touhou music on this list?
This music is actually kind of nice. Whenever I watched the "THE HARDEST VIDEO GAME BOSS EVER!" video I was distracted by all the characters yelling.
I've known, but it's hard for me to stay excited when I want to focus on what I got now. As for the song and the game itself...I can own KH Sephiroth at Level 50, I can clear Battletoads and Ghosts N Goblins, I can do so much, but Queen Larsa is still unbeaten by me. I've come very close! But still, Queen Larsa is the hardest boss ever concieved.

Futari is definitely one of the best shoot em ups (if not the best) I've ever played.
Pretty much the only song I know from this game. Funny how this is the one that is constantly posted in various channels.

Personally I'm really excited to see what Nintendo will pull out of their hat for their next generation console. I think HD is a given for the new Nintendo console. Also I hope it will continue with the motion controls, but improve them, and also have backwards compatibility with the Wii! It would be wonderful to see all the current Wii games in HD.

One of many bullet hell shooters from Cave. I've heard this is a very good one. Anyone else starting to really anticipate E3? I love seeing a new batch of games being announced and I'm especially curious to see new 3DS games. And it goes without saying that I'm very hyped to see how this Project Cafe/Wii2 will turn out. I do admit I've known a good chunk about it for about a month or two now, thanks to some connections.
