This game is one of my favorites on Steam. The audio reminds me of LOTR, but the game play and story line reminds me of Clash of the Titans, or Jason and the Argonauts. But all around a great remake of an ultimate edition.
Very similar to Waterfalls of SCIV. Probably it was composed based on that song.

The game itself was awesome but the music compared to other CV games was poor. Really disappointed in that aspect.

@SupraDarky I only partially recognized the Castlevania series in this game...(why no zombies until late in the game???), but I also enjoyed it a lot! The gameplay, the music, the environments were all nice...And the ending (sigh! <3) Guess I'm a Castlevania fanboy, too lol

@TheRealVordox What I like best as far as the combat in this game goesare the battles against the colossal foes such as *cough* spoiler *cough* the Dracolich *end of spoiler*. I loved Shadow of the Colossus (As well as the classic CV's)and these battles are very reminiscent of that game. If a lot less easy then most of those colossi. Just for that I'd count it a good game, though never a true CV.

Whatever you may think of this game, everyone else is also entitled to their opinion on it. @ SupraDarky: I liked the game, but honestly it's not what I'd call a proper Castlevania game. The ending was a major let-down for me too. Yet in terms of gameplay, music and especially the boss-battles I'd have to say it was a great game and I especially like this track.
@FreeCorps Yeah, it takes away from enjoyment of other 2-D side scrollers... because we're still not getting them. We STILL haven't gotten Castlevania IV-2. After all these freaking years, they're wasting more time on these crappy games than going back and making GOOD Castlevania games. So you can shut your fat mouth and learn what a good Castlevania game is. Metroidvanias are still solid Castelvania games that retain what makes good Castlevania games; GoW Castlevania games DO NOT.
@vibratingcat True Castlevania fans don't this crap. That's the point. Any Castlevania fan who says this game is good is really stupid and their opinion isn't valid. They don't deserve to have a right to like a Castlevania game. You don't need to "expand" on what's already great. Don't fix what's not broken. They're just making it worse with these terrible games.

@vincentBurden I know it's a Reboot, but the thin line is too ..."thin". As I also said, if they had not used the Castlevania title only to get attention, they may have created their own new franchise. Don't get me wrong, the game is good, but I had way more expectations to have some of the classic moves or story twists. Just that I got bored of the game was more for the difficulty terms, as Paladin is pretty....weak once you get the Maxed Upgrades, heck even the last boss died in seconds for me
@SupraDarky I think this game is pretty good but those DLC packs made me glad I got this game. And yes, I'm a fan of the series ever since Castlevania 3.

@Wolfdie Ummm... duh? You don't play a Zelda game expecting it to be about basketball. You don't play Mario Kart expecting it to be first person shooter. You don't play Marvel vs Capcom expecting it to be an RPG. And you DEFINITELY don't play a Castlevania expecting it to be a freaking GoW clone. They've experimented many times, they've tried many times, and failed each time. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of waiting for the true sequel to the great almighty Super Castlevania IV. I'm sick of these.
I am a Metroidvania fanboy who really enjoyed this game, The story was pleasing and my actions felt more real and meaningful. The game was alive (haha, the irony) and the puzzles were quite fun. Gameplay was severely challenging and the controls were really responsive. There were plenty of familiar references, but this time around, the references had substance. I guess my only complaint is some of the camera angles and unsure where to jump locations.
@vincentBurden Slogra: Cameo... Rinaldo: The only "almost same" character, with him gone mad and senile and created weapons. This is what I considered "Good" connection to the other game, and the name Castlevania of the Castle. Vampire Killer: Sarah again? Bloody Tears: Not in LoS if I remember correctly. Still could've been an own franchise with no connection to Castlevania Standards.
@TheRealVordox Clock Tower, last time I saw, the old Clock Tower was not as "Futuristic" like the High Tech Clock Tower in this game. Carmilla: Carmilla was a Witch, not an Vampyre. Name only. Laura: I'm pretty sure she was a servant. A twist is good though with what they did with her, Interesting character. Still a name with a huge change so any other name would fit. Malphas: Great change for her, which was good. Veros Wood: Keen eye you have. :P but yes, this was also okay, but not great.
@vincentBurden Gabriel Belmont, stand alone person of a famil. Whip: No Sara, No Whip? Powers of Immortality: Err, Dracula is immortal... Due to his VAMPIRISM. Lycan, Skeletons, Ogres etc etc normal in any Occult game. Olrox and Brauner was the names only, not even connected to the other characters of the other games. Dracula Himself(No, not really, he's not even dracula, not sure what you mean by "Romanian" version.) Death: This is one interesting part of the game.
@SupraDarky I'm kind of disappointed man, it wasn't the thing I was hoping for. Even if u ask me y u didn't like it, I'd answer it has not the taste of Castlevania. Anyways, I think it could be better if it wasn't chapters and the controls were a little responsive. I didn't finish it though, do u think I need to finish it to evaluate it ?? Thumbs up if that's so. - A Castlevania fan forever
@SupraDarky Hah! I knew it had to do with the waterfall. That "Ding ding" will forever be engraved in my mind... as a thought of terror.... and agony... and Castlevania did a really good job ruining my childhood.
@SupraDarky I Really liked this game. Yes it has some elements that are very akin to God of War, and in my opinion the story gets a little butchered in the end, but up until that point i'd still have given it a 9/10, and this is coming from somebody who's fairly picky. It might disappoint Castlevania fans who play it thinking it's going to be like any other Castlevania game, and its not. But it stands strongly on its own.
@Masz52 yeah the demo is quite lame.. the full game is a bit better... not *too* much... in other words, this game is overrated
@SupraDarky i have yet to play it (i def will at some point), but is "it's too long" really a common complaint for LoS??? I can understand if the complaint was "the levels are monotonous" or "it lacks variety in scenery" or something along those lines.... If the game is good make it last all freakin year for me baby ;)

I played the demo and couldn't stay interested, though I don't really like GoW type games so it's not surprising.

@genesisSOC Actually, alot of old Castlevania fans enjoyed Lament of Innocence, and to some degree Curse of Darkness. 3D Castlevania can work if it's in the same premise like those 2 games that follow the original storyline of Castlevania. This, however, did not feel like a Castlevania game at all. I was litterally BORED of the game once I hit about 1/4 of the game, and I completed it on Paladin level. It's just...wrong type of gameplay and scenary.
@Wolfdie Axe. That's right, THERE IS NO AXE IN THIS GAME! THE AXE! AAAAAAAXEEEEEEEE! On a more serious note. Everything, not even the boss fight came close to even "Lament of Innocence" quality, and that was a GREAT 3D Castlevania game with the same feeling of being there. HECK EVEN CASTLEVANIA, the castle, ITSELF WAS NOT EVEN PROPERLY DONE! Geez.
Actually, there's 2, 2!!! Things that was taken from Castlevania, everything else is just own created. I will avoid telling which 2 things due to the Spoilers, but it should be obvious to the ones who completed the game already. I know it's a reboot, but really removing all the previous history of 20+ Years of Castlevania is not a good thing
@SupraDarky With Amnesia, you mean the 1st person game that people say it's terrifying? I'm still playing this game, I'm on chapter VII (I think) and is already one of my favourites as well. The ambience is just awesome and thank god it's not a GOW clone. Nice music as well.

The story, battle and world don't feel like a Castlevania game. It feels like a crappy game, like it's butchering the series and what makes a "good" Castlevania game. Aren't you sick of this new crap? Aren't you ready for a true sequel to Super Castlevania IV?
@Wolfdie The spells, exploring, backtracking, enemies, leveling up, weapons, hamminess, fights, boss battles, characters, Dracula, and just about everything else did not feel like Castlevania at all. It was all very lacking and easily forgettable. Did not feel satisfying. Did not feel "good" like other Castlevania games. Are you seriously trying to compare LoI and CoD to Super Castlevania IV and SotN?

@SupraDarky i'm a castlevania fanboy, i liked this game but to be honest, it did not feel like a castlevania game, at all at least for me, but that doesn't mean this game is not good, it's a very well done game with some jaw dropping moments
@SupraDarky I'm quite fond of the Castlevania games, and still liked this one. I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with it, especially given the ending...

Well my point is still that you are dismissing the game cause of bad precedents, which in some way logical, but when the game have high critics, is liked by many people, is it illogical to ignore the bad precedents and try and see the game for itself and not just dump it automatically in the bad category?? you might still not like it, (hence me saying not buy to try out) but you might just like it.. just saying.
@ShadowMario64 Off the top of my head and for the ones I've played: 1. Donkey Kong Country Returns, 2. Super Mario Galaxy 2, 3. Mass Effect 2, 4. Castlevania, 5. Darksiders, 6. Bioshock 2, 7. Amnesia.
@Delarius86 "1 3D CV game is bad." ...? There was two on the N64, two on PS2... That's four. They're not Castlevania. They don't feel like Castlevania at all. Neither does this one. 3D Castlevanias can work, but they're doing it wrong. I'd rather them stop trying and experimenting and return back to Super Castlevania IV and make us a true sequel to that game. That's my main issue.

@genesisSOC That's a generalization, cause 1 3d CV game is bad doesn'T mean that all 3d CV game to come will be... you should try it before put it in the it has to be bad generalization (cause it does sound like you haven't sorry), not telling you to buy it, but maybe rent or borrow from someone (dont play the demo, it happens early in the game and hardly does it justice)

@Delarius86 Nah, it's because Castlevania and Metroid have one major thing in common: they're 2D. All 3D Castlevania games haven't been good, it just doesn't work. Metroid went 3D and it worked, but that's because it remained a Metroid game. 3D Castlevania games aren't anything like Castlevania at all, especially not GoW.

@SupraDarky don't worry you are not the only way who really dug the hell out of the re-visioning of the Castlevania series. LOS is one of the finest action games that starts off slow at first but it eventually kicks the awesome level up to 11 and becomes quite an adventure that is in the veins of the old Castlevania games of the Nintendo era unlike the ones released on the DSi or XBLA. Definitely look forward to seeing where they go from here. :)
@SupraDarky It's not just like when SotN came out. When SotN came out, it was great. They did it -right,- and Metroid was already a good kind of game. GoW is not a good game. Castlevania and Metroid mix very well, it makes sense. Castlevania and GoW do not and never will.
@genesisSOC Just like with SotN's release when a friend of mine told me Castlevania should never be anything like Metroid. ;) But I can understand people who say that. It's definitely not as amazing as a game like Castlevania IV or SotN when they came out.
Of course the suggested videos must spoil the final boss.

Anyone else a Castlevania fanboy who actually really enjoyed this game? It's in my top 5 for 2010 and I can't wait for both DLC packs. I know quite a lot of people who didn't like it, saying it's just a GoW clone or that it's too long. As the game is still relatively new, try to hold off on spoilers, especially the ending. Also, this theme is actually inspired by the Waterfall theme from Castlevania IV, it's a nice touch.
