It's short when you know How to beat the level. Even though It made like 20 years I played this game for the First time as a child, I Still remember how long and difficult It was.
This is another reason why Tropical Freeze is so amazing. A brand new David Wise soundtrack on ACTUALLY LONG levels! Not to mention almost every single stage has its own unique music. It's mind boggling.
Some of us would just pause the game at the beginning of a level, sit back and enjoy. Shit, man! I can't believe it never occurred to me to listen to this music while high...

Out of all of the DKC soundtracks, I have to say that DKC3 on GBA is the best. DKC 2, I love ya. But at the end of the day, DKC3 on GBA is king.

One thing I've wondered... In the swamp levels, you lose a life if you fall into the water but you can do just fine in other water levels. Hell, you can even swim in ice cold water in the arctic levels no problem but swamp water is fatal?

Any level that features this song always has me lingering for as long as possible just to get to the segment from 2:10 to 2:28 ish. Wish they used this song more in-game. Very cozy but sad too, and it suited the dark background of the marshes/swamps. Think I'll go download that as my wallpaper, if I can get my paws on the right resolution...

Most underated DKC2 song.with Hot Head Hop. Gives even more credit to Sticker and Forest.
lol fair call, you could make a compelling argument for almost any of the DKC2 songs with how much hype there is for Sticker and Forest. Have you heard the piano versions of the two? Gives the songs another dimension, I highly recommend giving them a try. I've personally never been a fan of any of the snow songs but I was never a fan of the snow levels either so I'm a bit biased.

the problem isnt being good or not. i agree that there are games from the 2000s with good music, but most of them belong to the first half of the decade (i can add paper mario and chrono cross to the ones you mentioned), almost none are from the 7th generation. as time goes, the companies care less and less for good music, nowdays all they care about is having the best graphics avaliable
megaman x (at least the first 3), the dkc trilogy, ff from 4 to 7 (i havent finished ff8 and 9, so i cant tell if their osts are good), pokemon 1st and 2nd generation (r/s/e may be good, but not as good), zelda oot, alttp and links awakenig, super metroid, earthbound, super mario rpg...
pokemon? if you count fr/lg and hg/ss as 2000's games, then ok. zelda tp and ss, the new ffs, even with great music, dont keep the same quality during all the game like their older versions (irocally, ff xiv is one of the best in this part), the same for okami, except the older versions part
add the metroid prime series and thats all i can count... there are a lot with one or two nice musics, but that's it...
maybe, but of all of them, mario galaxy 1 and 2 and a few more games are the only ones with such a great ost, most of them are no more than just ok
...I see where you're coming from in that stuff like Halo, GTA, CoD, etc. etc. overtook the big guns from the '90s, but the 2000s are far from a nostalgia killer for me. Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite Mario game, Metroid Prime is almost my favorite Metroid, The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are my 2nd and 3rd favorite Zeldas, etc. etc.

Has anyone ever noticed because of the synths, all early to mid 90's video game music sounds like the instrumentals to 80's pop songs?
Why did makers stop caring about the music in games, since those are the things that bring back memories. =...(

@68kenton I was born in '81, and not one day goes by that I don't think about how awesome my childhood was thanks to NES/SNES/N64. Used to sit in my room for days straight playing video games. I'm 30 now, and I regret NONE of it. Now I get to play these games with my son, and it's amazing.

@DEATHBOMBHITMAN47 I've never always been able to get the hang of those emulator things lol, and yes, playing platform games with a keyboard for me can be quite tricky. Everything I get, I tend to get it for the WII now so.

@ERICROJO156 Or another alternative is you can buy this game for the WII in the WII Market via the menu screen (if you own a WII), you will just need a Classic Controller to plug into your remote.

So a few weeks ago I was driving in my car...then they played I can feel it coming in the air tonight in the radio. I was suddenly like: WTF DKC2 ON THE RADIO?! AWESOME! But then I heard Phil Collins singing :(

One more thing I wanted to say - actually it's not the developer's fault that games get worse and worse - sure, they make it, but we buy them. We accept them. And sadly, we love them. Hear all those people shouting every year OMFG CoD (insert anything here) is the best game ever. They do it every year on the same game. Not just the industry has changed, but we as players also did. The most did. Some still know about the magic in games...
@teganyavo exactly - you can compare it to the movie industry - the 3D technology is kinda an excuse for horrible storyline. I mean come on, what movie had a decent story line over the past years? Inception? That's what I mean...
@orlandod84 no - graphics get better, physics too - but besides that? storylines get simpler and therefore more boring, characters are made effortless and there is no love for details anymore. Compare DK COuntry for example with all its easter eggs and lovely designed stages to a modern video game which you have played thru in 3 hours. Graphics aren't everything. They don't make a good game. Many things were better back then, and for me those are the important things.

@theangrywiinerd Microsoft's acquisition was aggressive, and would have forced Nintendo to put forward a great deal of money just to save a single development branch that hadn't put out anything really huge in a while (Of course, one cannot, in the long run, fault the 'it's done when it's done' approach). Given that all this took place within Gamecube times, it's not unreasonable to assume Nintendo didn't want to take the risk of throwing money at Rare.

i love the little sounds made from the critters in the swamp :) you dont try to decide on what kind of creatures they are, you just accept it and enjoy the song and game :D
Also, @ TalesofGod, I got to disagree with you about saying that all older games had bad visuals. Games with good graphics are that way because of a good art style, and while consoles now can have a much wider range in their art style ( CPU intensive 3d graphics and such), there are older games that look good still because their art style could be done even with many graphical limitations. Kirby's Adventure in Dreamland is still a really good looking and sounding game to me.
@thosechosenby I won't say that there are no new games coming out that are good, or have a lack good music. How ever, I do believe that there are way too many games that focus on "epic" visuals and "epic" music. It's a bunch of explosions and artificially emotional music (you know, like orchestra noise all the time now; most developers don't care about. memorable melodies for the most part). It sucks.

I thought the SSE was great and was one of the better parts of the game. In fact, it was one of the game's redeeming factors- Everything else was superior in Melee.

This is kinda why I like the handheld systems a lot - the lack of graphical capabilities and bigger screens make a good environment for 2D games. We haven't seen a 2D Castlevania on TV consoles since SotN (and it would be nice to see a new one, though I do dig the 3D ones) - but I can play a bunch of 2D castlevania and metroid platformers on my DS Lite.
Swamps are my favorite level types.

Considering they haven't even made a proper Donkey Kong platformer game since DK64, you're definitely right. I'll never understand why they stopped making 2D platformers, better graphics does not necessarily make better gameplay. The fans have definitely been begging for new 2D sidescrolling games like Mega Man 9, I don't know why they don't give the people what they want. How many first person shooters can they make?

Used to own. Their games haven't been very good since they left Nintendo. I wasn't even aware that Perfect Dark Zero was released until about a year after its release. Then I played it and I was very disappointed.

I actually did that, but my laptop is the kind that doesn't let you press more than 2 keys at the same time so I can't do a running jump (I kept dying when I tried to get into the first bonus barrel in the second stage). I can probably find the GBA version used for <$10.
Just a suggestion, but you can download a SNES emulator, I use ZSnes 9x. Easy and simple to use. Then all you have to do is search for the Donkey Kong Country 2 ROM, download it, and you should be ready to go.
I've had such a hankering to play this game again lately, and I don't have an SNES anymore. I think I'll buy the GBA version.
True. DKC music was definitley a revolutional type of soundtrack as far as SNES goes. But some of the music still was better than the Music on the N64

I'll re word what I said. They won't mix the contestant's songs with the contestant's stages. Like you'll never hear a Yoshi's story/Yoshi's Island ect. in a Mario Stage. Or like you'll never hear a Fire emblem song in a Zelda stage (the Great Temple in Melee is an exceptiom). Besides, the Golden Sun song kicks ass!

I thought mine had broke too, but it turns out all of the connectors on my games were just dirty. All it took was a q-tip to get them all working again. Maybe the same thing happened to you? Or maybe you dropped it and it broke or something, I dunno.

Close your eyes, block out everything else and think back to your childhood playing this game. The undertone bass at 21 seconds, the the mellow pipe chords on 26 seconds, the soothing melody at 57 seconds. A touch higher at 1min 07 and then Whack ! at 1min 15. Could this music be any better.... So so talented.

Either way, it's opinion. You're entitled to yours, I'm entitled to believing that the third game had really "gamey" sounding music and not much along the lines of the atmosphere the first two soundtracks had. Oh yeah... and 3 didn't have Stickerbrush Symphony. Neither did 1 for that matter.
