The 1-1 theme gets all the glory in this game. But it was this theme I was always looking forward to hearing when I used to play this game back in the day. I still think it's a more enjoyable sounding theme than 1-1 even if it isn't as complex or well thought out. Plus it always annoys me when the first level theme of a game gets all the glory. There are always going to be people who play it who suck at video games and can't advance to the later levels, and that's the only music they hear from the whole game. Their votes shouldn't count!

One thing I don't see pointed out enough about this theme is that it got recycled several times and had multiple incarnations as title themes. SMB3's title theme was a remix of this, the SMAS remake of Lost Levels had this remixed as an intro theme. Even some of the GBA remakes had this remixed. It's so well done and I never see it mentioned :(

I don't know if this is an original piece of music by Nintendo and company but this sounds so similar to the music that plays in Batman (1989) when the Joker kills Carl Grissolm. @SupraDarky It's not a terrible game. It's a classic, and it's fun to play. I've beaten it many times. But we all have opinions. I personally enjoyed Super Mario World the most.

God, I finished this game three times a week when I was 6, now I'm 21 and can't finish it even if my life depended on it
it's funny how sometimes I grab this game and play it super fast with warps, until 8-3 where I fail miresably because of these damn Hammer Bros... They're so random... still, I've already beaten the game, but I always find this level hard...

This was the first videogame I ever owned! In the end I did no-warp runs and back to back runs, when most enemies were replaced by Black Beetles.

It's not really an obscure song, since they've brought it back and remixed it so many times~ (Super Paper Mario, and I'm pretty sure it's been in Melee and Brawl... AT LEAST)

I beat this game for the first time when I was in third grade. I was at a girl's house, and tried to impress her by showing off how good I was as video games. It was as much to my own surprise as it was hers when I actually did it.

@ValisHD Easy. When you're underwater, there is more gravity pushing down on you. Since you're overtop of a pit, there will be even more water pushing down on you than before, which will logically make you sink faster, which gives the illusion that you're being pulled down, where in reality you are actually being pushed. :P That, or it's just NES physics.
LOL I'm a gamer but wasn't in the ps1 era and while this came out later for the Game Boy Color I had it!!! And I think I beat it.

@SupraDarky I know, it was so terrible, it barely sold 40 million copies; the controls are so bad, everything glides through perfectly; the graphics, don't get me started, everything is bright and wonderful and it took 20 years for people to realize the clouds were also bushes!

I actually beat all 32 levels about a month ago. I'm currently playing SMW since I beat 1, 2, and 3. I can't believe I've never beaten them before.
Sometimes I like to surprise you guys with obscure songs from obscure games, so here we go. It's called Super Mario Bros, it was a pretty big flop when it released since it's a terrible game. Seriously though, who actually played and beat this game at least once? If you consider yourself a gamer and didn't, grab a drink and take the little time needed to finish it just so you can say you did.
