The darkest and most dismal of the Zelda games. Much of the music is beautifully haunting and fits the story so well. It really had a way of making you feel like this time Link wouldn't succeed.
I'm surprised this list doesn't have more Zelda music. Zelda has always had fantastic music.
DAWN OF THE FINAL DAY
At the point this song played for the first time, when I was about seven or six years old, this game had changed me forever. This game holds a really special place in my heart, I'm the person that I am today because of it.

It's weird. In most video games, i always have the feeling that i know i'll win, i know i'll save the world, because i'm the good guy and that's what i have to do. But this game sort of hit me differently. Throughout the whole thing, there's this whole theme that no matter what you do, the moon's always gonna crash in the end. You can't save anyone, you can only rewind time and start over again. It's just so hopeless, and i really wasn't used to video games doing that before i played this.
I think by listening to this I might have to find my wii and boot this up :/
It really gives off that void feeling... Despair... There's no escaping the fate that will soon befall everyone...

It's actually amazing how many important life lessons games like Zelda taught us. Look forward and fight, even if everything seems hopeless. Never give up, there will always be a new dawn. Someone will always be waiting for you. No matter how small you are, you can still be a hero. Link gives me courage every day of my life. When I'm feeling down, he always appears in my mind, cheering me up. Nerdy? Maybe, but it still works. Hope you found a better job and everything is a lot better now! Cheers

this music creeped me the hell out as a kid, I would always song of time right as midnight hit, except for the one sidequest with the two lovers where you have to wait until the moon nearly crashes into the town...

That music is so epic! It makes you feel hopeless. It really makes you FEEL the end of the world in some hours. Everything that you've been fighting for... it was useless.
When I listen to this, I find my body goes very still and I begin to get a shiver that runs from the top of my head right down to the tips of my toes. I always found this piece of music very moving and would always get Link to run the entire way from where ever he was to the clock tower. As I got closer clambering to reach the top of the clock tower, bells would ring and the earth shook violently. And when I reached the top, I would stare into the gaping abyss. Damn, this game was atmospheric!
We need Ocarinas,Masks,swords,shields,arrows and maybe bombs if we want to prevent 2012...

@masterplusmargarita First, the soundtrack was more than creepy. Second, I think we didn't have enough time to clear everything, even with the inverted Song of Time. Third, there were too many sidequests. Fourth, the FDM was too hard to get.

2012 is coming...
@godverdegodverdomme I've played all 3, and OoT was better than both. LttP gave a loose story of an evil wizard getting the Triforce and warping the land to reflect his heart, but OoT made the overall experience much more immersive and enjoyable. It took the series in a new and fantastic direction while keeping true to the core feel of the series. MM had a good idea, but I hated it for stylistic reasons (that damn idiot moon) and the sheer uselessness of 80% of your masks.
I would have hated MM a lot less if the moon didn't look so goddamn retarded. I like the idea of time traveling back over and over to try to defy fate, but it was so hard to take seriously with that idiotic face in front of me so much of the time.

@godverdegodverdomme WW IS better than ALttP. Better music, better storyline, arguably more well-designed dungeons (Tower of Gods, Earth and Wind Temple are really master pieces when it comes to dungeon gameplay) However (to me, anyway), ALttP is a close second to my favorite Zelda. The reason for this is because the lack of dungeons and the tedious Triforce Fetch Quest dragged down the appeal of WW quite a bit.

@SVDShooter i really don't care about reviews, but if you consider IGN credible, they said themselves that Skyward Sword is the best Zelda game ever, and that "Ocarina of Time has met its match".
This game was freaking cryptic. I love it to bits. I think, all in all, that it is better than OOT. More depth, more to do, and just plain freaky at times. Two thumbs up. :3

Before I ever even knew anything about Zelda or had ever seen MM's moon, I had a nightmare that the moon crashed into the Earth. So this game creeps me out soooooo much, every time I see that moon staring at me from the sky I get the chills.
by far my favorite zelda game <3 i very much enjoyed the creepyness through out the game unlike the other games don't seem to have it sadly, everyone seems to love the other ones but me personally believe that this is the best game and ill never believe otherwise ^^

Majora's mask's sense of impending doom was a very well done. The atmosphere was great, even for a N64 game. I played it as an 8 year old, and even I got filled with a sense of dread as the last day approached. It's ridiculous how well they did for a video game aimed at younger audiences. They made every detail for the atmosphere good. Townspeople, slight changes in music, etc.

@WheresMahBacon OK, that's a bit of a spoiler, but I agree. Kafei and Anju were the best part of this game, and that's saying something. If you beat the game without saving them, you haven't finished yet.
@synthetikcheese For me, Majora's Mask was the best Zelda game. People didn't like it because of the time mechanic, but that's exactly why I liked it. It may have only had four dungeons, but those four were incredible, and when you add all the events you have to manipulate outside the dungeons to make stories end happily, you have a masterwork. OoT was "canon"... whatever. It can't touch MM.
This game was pretty dark, I don't think I gets the credit it deserves, If you fully played this game (Including all the sidequest), You know what I mean
I think Majora's Mask is the most underrated 3D Zelda. I mean, you keep hearing people say "OoT/WW/TP is awesome!", but you rarely hear anyone praise MM. And I do really think it's think it's the best 3D Zelda.

All that's missing from this is a big clock bell striking at some points just to remind you how much time is ticking away, till the end finally comes, unless you have anything to say about it.

The moon is probably the scariest thing ever put in a video game.
@alexandre779 And it has a lot more replayability to it thanks to its game/story mechanics. I can pick up my old game and start over without having to go to a new save. By now I've forgotten most of the puzzles and boss combinations, and I still have my upgrades and (in some cases) extra items, along with the option of choosing which substory to play out in any order I like.
Majora's Mask is probably one of the best action games I've ever played. The whole doomsday scenario really connected me too the game. Get an extremely satisfying feeling beating the game.

Hard to believe that the same guy who did the happy-go-lucky SMB theme could compose a brooding masterpiece such as this.
i played this game through a couple of months ago and i get why some people thought of this to be the least favourite 3d zelda. It did feel a bit short for me, and the collecting the 4 main masks didn't feel like a really epic journey. but the power of this game lay in all the new great characters they introduced and because of the relatively more depht that the characters had made me actually care about what was going to happen to them.

Oh man, this game was the best. The music, the impending doom, just the general atmosphere of the world. This wasn't your happy Zelda game, and I loved it all that much more for it.

While being one of the shortest, this is by far the most atmospheric and immersive Zelda game ever, it felt like a living world, and that's why it's the favorite of many.
Ah,this brings nice refreshing to this game. The best memories that I have with this music is when you do Kafei and Anju side-quest.It was sad,yet wonderful.

i gotta agree about not liking it as much as the other LoZ games, the dungeons felt too simple but this BMG did make for a good ominous setting, it still has a little bit of a hopeful sound too, at least to me

This theme in combination with Kafei's Quest - probably one of the most emotional scenes in the Zelda universe. This game had a very special atmosphere.
I remember playing this as a kid, I forgot the song to start back on Day 1. Knowing the final day was gonna end it all I panicked hid in a house and the countdown slowly ticking. I awaited my doom.
What a scary game. It gave me nightmares when I was a child, and this last year when my friend and I played it through it still freaked the fuck outta me.

majoras mask is a very good zelda game. the timer was a very deep experience, especially when you first dont know the song for slowing down half the speed of the game... wow second dungeon with all fairys was very close to the end of the third day timer without knowing the slow down trick..

Imagine walking through the lively town on the first day. People are laughing & dancing, peace reigns supreme. You happen to realize you just walked past a box you could've broken. So casually you turn around. As you do the music fades quickly along with your turn & stops. Everything except for you is in black & white and the town is empty, dead silent. Everything is like this. You head to the Clock Tower, the arm comes down & the tower opens. Skull Kid laughs. This plays. Good atmosphere?

Ahhh this is a good one. There should be more songs from this game, it had a great soundtrack. This song scared the shit out of me when I was young, to be honest. Talking to everyone, seeing them scared about the apocalypse that was unavoidably coming...really brought you into the world and the despair that was felt by everyone. Unlike most people, THIS is my favorite zelda game- it had the best characters and atmosphere to me, and it was so very dark!
Well supra saying one of the 3d zeldas is your *least favorite* is kind of like saying which super expensive luxury car is your least favorite when majoras mask, OOT, and twilight were all ridiculously excellent. Besides whether its the best game or the worst game ,you gotta admit, majoras mask was by far the creepiest zelda game.
This is one of my absolute favorites from this game. It really does give you a feeling of the world coming to an end.

Thank you so much, SupraDarky, for finally adding this. This song, Oath to Order, Song of Healing, as well as the song that plays in the beginning in the woods when Link is on Epona mean so much to me in terms of video game music and sentimental value. One of the reasons I listen to black metal is because it allows me to evoke my deepest emotions when I need to the most, and to me this is almost the video game music equivalent to black metal. Words cannot describe how much I love this game.
