I saw my bro playing this game and was curious about it, but didn't play or read much into it. I picked it up recently after beating Automata. Even after learning all the Major Spoilers from MrClemps, I still really enjoy the story as it unfolds. The music feels good. When I go back to Automata, I'll probably have to stop and stare into space like those docile machines in the city ruins

Silent Hill 2 has some industrial sounds in its OST, but the whole track comes off as more ambience than music.

There are so many games that don't have any heart put into it because its going to sell regardless. But this game had heart and soul with some of the best musical talent but it's so underrated. This is a great game and will always be a favorite of mine

Emi Evans developed new versions of the english laungauge for this soundtrack; how would the english language sound a thousand years in the future. As far as I know she thought of 5 different influences and built it into the soundtrack. In my opinion it's a pretty impressive and an awesome job done for a game by a singer. :)

The beginning of this track is reminiscent of the track that plays in the Magitek Factory in Final Fantasy VI.

I am aware. I am no linguistics expert, but as I recall in every language uses a certain set of "phonemes" (I think that's the word) AKA possible sounds used by a language. (Like how English doesent often use sounds like the Spanish double L, or the Germanic raspy CH). What I noticed a year ago is that this song has a large number of English phonemes. (Feel free for somebody to correct me.)

You're talking about the voice in the song? They developed a whole new language for the game, which is a mixture of real languages.

That makes alot of sense actually. After all, the English language as it is now is vastly different from what it originally was. I've heard some Old English, and I could barely understand a word of it. It was like a totally different language. A thousand years from now, it will have most likely taken on several more changes.

From what I've read, the lyrics were created by imagining what the language would sound like 1000 years from now. It's an interesting idea.

They tried to make it sound like if the song was floating around for 1000 years in the same language. And its kind of a weird, but amazing thing.

@SergeantLuke Never played the game, but this strategy seems like a really great piece for a horror-based section, since, as you described, it's really freaky to be unable to understand "your own language". Of course, such a strategy wouldn't localize well, since you would need a new song for each language, but it's still an interesting concept.

@gunslingerfry Dude, I totally agree. Instructions were rough and not very helpful most of the time. And yeah, that "spend your money/ kills things until you get this" framing for missions became a bit of a drag. For some odd reason though the farming and fishing grew on me.

I really like this game, and the story is very interesting. Having said that, I do have some pointers which kinda ruin some aspects for me. To me the story that seems so awesome gets butchered by the static way of progressing through it. It feels so unnatural the way they respond to everything and move on without thinking. This made me feel like it's just one big average quest you'd get in any MMORPG. I also disliked the lenght, but that is debatable. All in all it's an awesome game!

The story is crazy! First of all the shades are REAL HUMANS!! The ppl that you see as humans are the shades clones or shells. Humans separated their souls from their bodies to avoid being wiped out by a plague. But the stupid clones kill the shades instead of merging with them therefore destroying the human race! The clones cant reproduce without their soul but some have freakishly long life. Thats why the shades out number the shells. So the game is basically self genocide.

@Brainstrain91 The game is many years in the future after almost all of humanity has died, and (spoiler?) some of the characters are not necessarily human. It is easy to imagine descendants of humanity cobbling together new languages out of words in existing ones plus words of their own making. I only wish this soundtrack had transcriptions of the lyrics and explanations of what they're supposed to mean.

Astounding soundtrack and game. This has to be the most underrated game of last year, it deserved to be mentioned along with Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect 2 for GotY. It has more heart than any game I played last year (Heavy Rain being a close second). p.s. 2010 was a amazing year for VGM in my opinion =]

What a great game! It seriously gets better with every playthrough, especially with the 2 final endings. Good music, great characters (Kaine seriously is something else) and a refreshing darker story for an RPG.

@assgoblin2damax I don't think it's fair to compare both (great) soundtracks. Bayonetta being a fast paced action game, the vocal tracks are higher tempo and punchier. NieR's vocal tracks are calmer and more emotional.

NieR's soundtrack mostly contains vocal themes with made up lyrics that are based off real languages. This one seems like it's based off english.
