I made that mistake once. Instant death every time I reloaded the game. Had to go back to another save file all the way back before finishing the Museum.

It's the eerie chanting in the early phases, Jace. Akira is infamous for doing the same with it's soundtrack.

@ccoplien It's not. It is from the composer of Super Mario Rpg (Snes), Live A Live (Snes), Legend of Mana (PS1), Bowser's Inside Story (DS).

@dertien vijfenvijftig Yup! Yoko Shimomura is, as far as I know, the only composer for Final Fantasy XV. If you listen to the Night Battle Theme, you can definitely hear her style, mostly Kingdom Hearts.

Parasite Eve 1 and 2 are really underrated. But back then with other horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill the competition was much bigger than it is now. kinda strange that the most popular and known horror games are from Japan.
Well, japanese horror tends to be scarier than american horror.

@GlowingGenetLoki you mean cheap jumpscare-simulators like Fear, Slenderman or Outlast? Totally agree. A shame that a game like Dead Space with an elemental focus on atmospheric Survival Horror was later ruined by EA in the later game(s).
@Owari Dragon I think Outlast represents the best you can get out of jumpscares and such. It's a great game, but it was already playing with a worn-out genre. Probably the most one can expect.
Amnesia, but it's from Europe which follows the style of horror known as "gothic horror" so I can't count that as an American horror game. I guess it's probably one of the few powerful horror games outside of Japan.
Owari Dragon Parasite Eve 2 was geared more on the Resident Evil survival horror elements
Japanese horror games of ole were the first of its kind coming west. Western games back then were not trying to tap into that genre. Same with how the east wasn't even trying to make FPS games and now they are. So yeah not exactly surprised.
Not sure how any of you can think parasite eve or resident evil were scary games. Silent Hill I do agree at least as far as the first 2 games. But the others....meh<_<. I think all you western weaboos give japanese horror more credit then it should be given.
first fase: is this the final boss? a baby? hahaha, this should be very easy second fase: well, this is not what i expected, should be a little bit hard, and I don't have many health items left, so in 1 or 2 times I load game I should beat it third fase: what? is it finally dead? no, it is in its mature form. ok, i'm fucked up :)

if you are a fan of sci-fi but with tremendous and true-possible science background then ur gonna love the story. its just breathtaking. for the gameplay i'd say the battles are decent, i liked it. short enough to finish it in 10 hours. the only thing is that she moves around somewhat slow. and if you want to finish it 100% ur gonna have to invest twice the time to finish it once
i have this in my collection but never got around to play it... i should give it a try someday, looks awesome.

Just read the wiki synopsis for this game. The premise is a soft-science nightmare. Sounds like a decent game nonetheless, and decent tunes too. Not my choice of genera though, I don't like horror stuff so well.
i've noticed i can usually tell when she composed for a game. All her compositions have something in common. Recently with Xenoblade for example, it sounded familiar so i looked it up and voila, Yoko.
I actually think the music is more epic than scary. The picture, though... that scares the dezh out of me.
well, it is supposed to be a mix between both. Since you're fighting a being that can literally evolve in matter of minutes and aims to destroy all the no-NMC life forms

I feel as if this song was made to be scary. I've never played Parasite Eve, but the game is a blend of horror survival and JRPG from what I've heard, so I guess...it's supposed to be scary.

@GoaFreak2010 Organization XIII theme, Deep Drive, Sacred Moon and Darkness of the Unknown. Also maybe Disappeared. You can definitely see a darker side in the soundtrack that you hear in Parasite Eve

@alabzam It was out in Germany. :P Back in the 90s when I lived there, I browsed this gaming magazine at my local kiosk and they had a huuuge walkthrough for it. I remember the pics of the spider boss, the worms...and especially the scene where you talk with eve's final form. I never got the game though until we moved to the US. :/

@SupraDarky Same here. That short loop of Jaws-ish music that started after the final battle when you had to run freaked me out. It kept getting faster and faster which made it even worse.

It starts off creepy, then gets uptempo. Great music, amongst others, in a great game (I personally like Eve's 2nd Battle Theme). Definitely one of the best RPGs from PS1, imo.

Running away from U.B. (Ultimate Being) in the end scared me the first time I played this game. :P Classic Shimomura here when she goes for darker songs. It could fit right into a Kingdom Hearts soundtrack, especially the panning notes going from low to high at 2:38. I just noticed she uses that a lot in final bosses like in KH2, Mario&Luigi 3's final boss, Live a Live's final boss and maybe more.
