Every time I play a new Mario Kart game, I'm praying that Rainbow Road will have this theme, and I'm always disappointed. SNES Rainbow Road theme owns all the others.
Most hectic, most memorable. Even more with these unforgiving 150cc CPUs.
I'll have you know I raced on Rainbow Road, and I only fell off 20 times.

Oh damn yes it was. I remember trying to beat 150cc and I HAD to be 1st to make it, point-wise. I somehow made it, I don't know. Ask my 8-year-old self.

I agree that they tried to recapture the Rainbow Road feel of the first one in later Mario Kart games because the fans wanted it. But they couldn't and this song and track are better than the ones that came after it!

No, I don't like it because they re-used it in every game from MK64 onwards with little to no effort put into its production. Don't presume to tell me why I do or don't like something, that's just arrogant.

You guys should listen to Soyo Oka's Second Brain album. The singing (kinda) sucks, but the BGM is as classic as the SNES music she does.

I swear, Rainbow Road was ALWAYS the most frustrating stage, but ALWAYS had the best music, which made me keep playing that stage. This goes for every Mario Kart game I've ever played, and a few I haven't
I bet a lot of people are suprised to see that Peach was a brunette back then, looked a lot smarter and that her name was Toadstool. I miss this game. I really want to twist my brother's neck for exchanging it for a stupid shoot'm'up.

@XNintendrewX Sadly, it wasn't. But the track itself _is_ one of MK7's retro tracks, so we get the original music instead. And I'm okay with that.

@Ussless1 The road is multicolored and as you drive it looks like it flashes a bunch of colors. Flashing colors can cause seizures if you have epilepsy so people call it epilepsy road as a joke. xD

@pyromaniacforhire quite easy... just get gold in all 3 cups in 150cc, then "Special cup" appears... Rainbow road is the LAST stage in the cup (and in the whole game whatsoever)

Even the boxes the games came in were fun to look at. The cover totally got you hyped to play. I freakin hate the new nintendo "multicultural" boxes with 20 different languages on them now.

Oh man, I played the Super Circuit version of this track the other day, and holy hell did they butcher the track. Also got rid of the electrified thwomps, making the course really boring. Silly noobs don't know how to mario kart.

Well, I don't want nostalgia to get in the way of progress, but there's no real progress to be found in the series right now. The 64 version was a major upgrade from the original, and the Gamecube version gave much smoother controls, better visuals and a unique system, but after that it kind of stuttered.
Totally agree. :/ Things need to go back to the way they were - to be classics again! Something that awakes that inner childhood of you. Something people won't forget. Like this SNES game. Instead they do as you just put it excellently.
Mario Kart Wii's cover basically establishes that the series is selling on a gimmick now. Pretty saddening.

Raibow Road is always the best song in Mario Kart 8D My favorite is from Double Dash....but this one is pretty cool too ^^
I loved this track. It really made surviving Gran Prix all the way to Rainbow Road feel like an accomplishment, like it was an honor to make it to the final race in the game. Great track. That said, the Mario Kart 64 version is pretty good too.
true, but snes did have a multitab. i don't know any other games worth playing 3+ players on than secret of mana though lol so no one had one.

I haven't played N64 Mario Kart. Only SNES, DS and Wii. But hey - if you grew up with it - then it means extra! ;) It's nice to have things like that. Best wishes!
I'll say that the N64 version is my fav since I grew up with it.
Even this game is better than its Wii counterpart. The Wii version is so damn hard it makes me sick even looking at the box of the game. Nice tune dude!

Am I the only one who's noticed, but in Mario Kart games, Rainbow Road music is always a track guarenteed for this list? RR is always good stuff.
The worst part of this stage is near the end of the course where you make a giant leap across a chasm but sometimes the CPU uses thunder and makes you lose control, falling into space So much cheap shit the CPU had
Excellent choice. This is definitely the most deservant tune for this game. Although maybe you should advance to Mario kart DS and Wii next as those games have excellent soundtracks.
The N64's version of "Rainbow Road" is easily the best mix. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves for even thinking that the SNES version could hold the jock of the N64 version.

Super Mario Kart FTW The best one of the serie was clearly the first one. And now I remeber myself trying to r jump closer and closer to the inside of turns to shave seconds and avoid the CPU.
